  1. So no central anything, ok. Do you have any air conditioners? You can run those without the cooling, most have a "fan only" setting, and most also have a "recirculate" setting to not bring in outside air in the winter.

Swap out the "standard" air filter it came with for one from the forced air type, even if you need to trim it to fit, and I believe you'll accomplish what you want.

No A.C. units?  There are stand-alone room filters, but most likely you'd need more than one, even with only 1,000 sq. ft.

Yup. I dont think there are truly that many independent users who can actually see and participate in the marketplace or auctions.

    nice..

that problem you encountered can happen with auctions as well.... scum bags are everywhere.

That being said...  the market place should be open for all to see but only members should have access to reply.

I was gonna say we have our share of schmucks even here in Jersey.  :(  Too bad one got involved with a sale with a member here. (not to mention having it BE a member here).

I'm okay with the idea of auctioning here, but I don't buy a lot, or often. I'd feel great about buying from members here in the event I was looking for something.

I rarely have firearm related items to sell. Tools, now that might be another matter. We have sources here for that too in the marketplace, if I recall.

I've never grown tired of shooting .22 and its the most common caliber in my collection. I've been shooting for 27 years and I dont think I'll ever get tired of .22s

    Just my 2 cents

I think your 2 cents is really 22 cents!

I've recently lost track of just how much .22 ammo I have laying around with my recent bargain hunting. Kinda got lost in the mess. But it's plenty.

I'd also say skip buying a .22 rifle or handgun. Unless you are a child or have some sort of disability that prevents you from safely handling a 9mm or 223, the .22 will feel like a glorified BB gun after your 1st mag change.

    Glorified BB gun, hmm,,,,,,,

There are a multitude of .22 shooters who'd disagree, and a bunch of them have no discernible disability. Several "rimfire" forums out there are filled with shooters, even long distance ones.

I  think (but can't swear to it) more .22 ammunition is sold than any other, and I don't think (but again, can't swear to it) that's solely due to it's low cost.

How about hunting? Picture taking down a squirrel, rabbit or other "small game" with a .223 or similar?

Oooh, a new product category, the .50 caliber food processor! Minces and dices, purees grouse in an instant! :mutley:

Just remember, you can't take that cash with you when you go.

Plus, don't you know the law and creed? "He who dies with the most toys.... WINS!"

Tell that bit about taking it with you to the Egyptian Pharaohs. :icon_e_wink:

To paraphrase Patton, "He who makes the OTHER guy die with less toys wins" !  :p

Not a gun I ever planned on getting. One day the wife showed me a pic of one and said that looks cool you should get one. AND SHE MEANT IT.  Having never been in such a scenario, I went right to RTSP and got one before her tune changed. I do have to say that I am very pleased with it overall.  That said, not for someone new to firearms.

"that looks cool you should get one. AND SHE MEANT IT."

Tell her you have your replacement gent (ME!!! ) all picked out for her if you pass before her.  As a widow, you'll want her well taken care of, and I'm just the guy to be there for her.

P.S. Let her know I'll take good care of your gun collection too.

That’s so true.  I love my shockwave, not sure how in any way it’s practical but boy is it fun to shoot!!!

I know what you mean! I'm looking to get me a Mare's Leg for the same reason.

Think back: Steve McQueen in "Wanted dead or alive" TV series, I think it was the 50's or 60's. So cool the way that thing got shot from the hip. B.S. I know, but,,,,,,,,sure seems fun.

Happy New Year forumites - and what better way to start the new year than by buying a new (to me) Smith & Wesson?

As the title says, this one is a real ugly duckling. It's a model that I didn't know existed until I ran across one in a gun shop in New England in 2007. I should have bought it then, because they have about doubled in price since then. Water under the bridge. I was poking around the Internet, not looking for anything specific, when I ran across this one at a relatively good price. I made an offer and it was accepted. It will be several weeks until I get my hands on it - payment/shipping/transfer - OGAM.

This is the big brother to the Centennial series of J-frame revolvers. It is built on an alloy L-frame with a 5-shot titanium cylinder. It is DAO with an internal hammer. It has a 2.5" barrel and is chambered in .44 Special. Only made for a couple years - introduced in 1999 discontinued in 2001 (probably because it was so ugly) - which means it has no internal lock. Depending on whose review you read, I've seen the weight stated at everything from 18 ounces to 27 ounces. I think it probably is in the 20 - 21 ounce range as my 325 PD is 25 ounces (bigger frame but bigger holes and one more of them).

    So here it is...

    A S&W 296 Ti

I hope that your new year starts off as well as mine.

    Adios,

    Pizza Bob

Nice, put it out in the sun with some tanning lotion and it'll look better. :icon_e_wink:

    It's not ugly, just different.

Congrats on the new family addition!

It WAS a folding stock before the Communist regulations of NJ stopped it with a pin.

Actually, my son has a Mosin, but shot outside, and yeah, they go boom. Can't imagine what it would be like indoors.

Damm commies, I thought McCarthy got rid of 'em all! :icon_e_wink:

My kid has a Mosin too, and it has more kick than even the 12 gauge.

I'm not a professional so I don't have anything to say about the longevity, but for me the Ridgid brand stuff from Home Depot was attractive because the batteries, when bought with a tool, are covered by the lifetime warranty too.

That's a serious benefit for sure!!

so….what's good out there? as far as cordless 1/2" impact gun? i'm also looking for a variable speed cordless drill too. I haven't hadda buy any till recently, 'cause a couple came witrh the shop. both were snap on, and tgo be honest, I loved that older snapon cordless impact. it was 18v. can't find batteries, and the 2 I have don't hold a charge anymore. I tried one of the newer snapon impacts......friggin expensive as hell...but supposedly better. it blows chunks. it sucks wet hairy mooseballs. it's slower than the old one, and not nearly as strong. it struggles removing lugnuts that're only torqued to 100-120lb/ft. the drill still works, but again...only 1 battery tries to hold a charge......and it's lost its variable speed.

     so....what's good?

I'm using cordless tools professionally since the first 7.2 and 9 volt units came out. Back when Black and Decker was still it's own company, and Makita was a newbie here. So I have gotten a bit of practice, AND I'm a cheapskate  :icon_e_smile: who tries to only spend on quality because it's usually less expensive in the long run.

As Pete mentioned, the battery pack can be rebuilt. If you don't want to bother doing it yourself, there's a joint in Jersey called "Batteries Plus Bulbs" in a number of locations, ( I know of East Brunswick, Green brook and Union) that sell (DUH!!) batteries and bulbs, and has lots of non-typical ones, but they also will rebuild your tool batteries, re-using your cases and putting in the new cells. Not cheap, but if you don't want the hassle it's available. Beats buying the tool AND new batteries.

I bought some new cells there to rebuild my old style Paslode nailgun batteries, and they are holding up pretty well after 5 or so years.

Milwaukee and Porter Cable are both good choices if you don't care for DeWalt. I have some of the Dewalt stuff myself, several Milwaukees and Porter Cable, and have zero negative thing to comment on either of them  (except for the Porter Cable Bammer, but that's another story).

Ryobi has several versions, the higher end stuff has gotten way better than originally. And it's pretty light weight.

Good luck, you have a lot of guys here who know their stuff giving you good advice.

I’d like to thank @67gtonut I was told I was 9,999 till this post( I cannot see post count on mobile) . So I hope we can share this very special moment of ours together. Hand in hand. Like brothers in the new year. Close! Almost awkwardly close.

    Happy new year Widdle buddy!

    Congrats on the milestone.

I always wear protection inside or out, but the muzzle blast from an AR is definitely not pleasant, specially when the guy in the next lane has a crappy brake on his. The pistol caliber carbines are much more forgiving to the ears, and just as much fun.

    Here you go:

    4215_1.jpg

I found out that very same thing with my own muzzle brake. I went with a blast forward device and it made a real difference, tho it did reduce by a smidgen the brake benefit. Indian Creek had one that was pretty reasonable, and can pop on and off as desired.

That's a real puuurty rifle there! Do I see a folding stock? Cool! (New Jerksey legal? dunno,,,,,)

I’d go with a ruger10/22 or mp 15-22.  Learn to shoot well, then move on to bigger better stuff. It will save a lot of money. My first gun was a Henry classic 22. I loved and love that gun. That said, having several pistols, rifles, and a shotgun, I’m looking to get myself a 10/22 for days where I just want to shoot a ton for basically nothing. I don’t like to run a ton through my Henry. If I was starting from scratch and being practical, which many of us can’t be with firearms, I’d build my collection as follows:

    1. ruger 10/22
    2. 9mm (beretta 92/Springfield xd/Glock 19)
    3. 223/556(ruger 556/mp sport)
    4. 12 gauge (Mossbergs have always worked well for me and are budget friendly)
    5. .357 revolver (ruger or Smith and wesson)
    6. 22 or 357 lever rifle

Your first was a great beginner tool, IMHO. Henrys have a LOT going for them.

Practical????????That ONLY works, at best, for the first few acquisitions. For the majority(I suspect)of us, it quickly gives way as we succumb to wishlists and drool-inducing new choices.

Having said that, I see your list closely resembles my version of what's ideal, even if not in the same precise order.

The difference between practical and preferred is difficult at times to discern.

I have a CX4, it's at the top of my list. Second would be my Scorpion. What's nice is that you can shoot them indoors without gong deaf, like with .223.

Haven't seen the Scorpion yet but I believe you abut it.

Inside or out, I'd be wearing hearing protection with most of what I shoot. After all my years working power tools, I have to save what's left. :icon_e_wink:

I am still looking into Tapatalk.  They have not updated their app in over 6 months and figuring how we can make it work without crashing the forum.  Will keep updated.  The User app which you download, is not the issue.  The issue is the tapatalk app that is installed on our server which lets Tapatalk see content.  Their app crashes our forum.

Added reactions are a boon, thanks.

I too, am on a laptop, using Chrome, and sometimes instead of going to the "newest unread post" my clicking on a thread goes right back to the first page, first post, even if I've already gotten to page 8 or similar. Not that big a deal, but a trifle inconvenient. I wouldn't put it high on the list of things to work on, not with all I imagine is involved in tweaking this stuff.

I'm sure your plate is pretty full. Mine gets crowded just trying to READ the stuff here and a few other forums I like to peek in on. Let alone opening my big yap at times.

So much for finding another "loophole" , right? DRAT!

Thanks for clearing up that issue for me.
