  1. I don't think I've seen/heard this one before. Mid-June I dropped off application for 2 P2P (already have FID) to NJSP Hamilton (Mercer co) since I do not have local PD. I live in Monmouth county but am only 20min from the Hamilton barracks and in that barracks patrol area. 2 weeks later I get phone call problem with money order and resolve that the next day. Mid-Aug I stop in to ask for status and get the typical Trenton has my application, they will call me when I can pick them up. Tonight I get a call from one of my two references, he just got a phone call from a trooper out of the Ft Monmouth barracks?!?! He said he had no clue why it came to him. Asked him if he knew me to use drugs, DWI or want to overthrow the govt. (While typing this second reference got same phone call). So did my app go to Trenton than to FM? If so why and what happens next? I'm also slightly concerned if they call my employer. I switched jobs since I applied. The good part is I now work for the company that owns the company I used to work for. Different HR dept but they should know where I went. When I told this to the trooper in Aug he said no big deal if they had a problem I would be given chance to explain. So does trooper in Ft Monmouth send back to Trenton? Or is this the end? Does this mean FM will issue the permits or go back to Hamilton? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
  2. Cheyenne in Hamilton told me they will hold indefinitely as long as it's paid for. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
  3. M&P9. I have not started a full-blown search yet. I did jump when I saw SS's post on fb; lot of good that did me.
  4. Thanks for the fast replies. Update: Shore Shot had posted on their facebook page they had my chosen gun in stock. So I call fully ready to go there NOW with credit card in hand. Yes he says they have it in stock. Me: "Can you hold it for me while I wait on my permit to come, providing I pay for it?" Him: "No, sorry, legally I can not." ???? Edit to add... There was no delay while he thought about it or checked with someone else. Immediate response was no.
  5. Has anyone ever considered and been denied or successfully purchased from a Shop/Range and they've stored and allowed you to use your gun (obviously there only) while waiting for purchase permit to come in? Upside for buyer: Practice with the gun they will be taking home once permit clears. Upside for shop: Gun sale, nearly guaranteed range fees, higher probability to retain customer. Potential risk for the shop would be the customer is denied the permit, leaving them with a used gun. This could be prevented by the buyer & shop entering into a contract in advance stating something along the lines of buyer pays in full in advance of using gun, if buyer is denied permit the shop sells the gun as used and buyer is refunded the sale price minus any storage/transfer/consignment fees. On the flip side, the buyer is trusting the shop to not use the gun they have purchased as a demo/rental unit. Shore Shot has a section on their website about buyers leaving a gun there while waiting for the permit and then never coming back so they will no longer offer to store guns. It amazes me that anyone would shell out several hundred dollars and never come back, but that's what it sounds like happened. SS in response is declaring them abandoned property and offering for resale. While I imagine this increases time and paperwork, it also brings in more cash flow, so in the end a positive for the shop. I'm assuming that they feel the cash flow is not high enough to justify the extra paperwork?? Yes, I know best is to call around shops and ask; but if someone out there has already done this, that would save me legwork. I'd be willing to travel some for this ability. Kevin
  6. I intend to use the GPR feature, but was going to wait until I submitted my P2P application. The Trooper that gave me the application suggested I submit it during banker hours as there would be a chance a more knowledgeable Trooper would be on duty that could review the application for me. It will be 2 weeks before I can make it during those hours. I think I saw the .40 in the marketplace, but I'm pretty much set on the 9mm.
  7. Thanks to all for responses & Welcomes

    Variations of M&P9

Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for, why couldn't S&W make it that clear on their site? Since I see the pros/cons of the mag safety debate I do not see it being a deal breaker if I can only locate one version and not both. Now I feel confident in knowing any M&P9 full size I can locate will work for me.

    Variations of M&P9

Looking to purchase first handgun (currently own rifle and shotgun). After firing 6 different 9mms yesterday I've pretty much settled on a M&P9. Hard to say why exactly, some of the others I can clearly say what I did not like about them, others it was more of a gut feeling I guess. If the opportunity to shot other 9mms present itself while waiting on permit I would do so. Anyway, looking at the S&W website can be a bit confusing on all the different variations. Some are easy enough to determine (number of rounds, full size or compact, PRO Series, etc...) others a bit more difficult to see the differences or benefits. I believe I've narrowed it down to four. SKU 109201, 109251, 109301, & 109351. All are 10 round, 4.25" barrel length. 109201 & 109301 have 6.5lb trigger pull; 109251 & 109351 are 10lbs trigger pull. The only difference I see between each with the same trigger pull is overall length 7.5" vs 7.63". Trigger pull is clear to me (I do not know what I fired yesterday). All other things being the same I would imagine a longer overall length would be mean better control? But is there really a noticeable difference in 0.13"? How hard/expensive is it to change trigger pull? Meaning if I could only find one with a 10lb pull and I wanted to swap for the 6.5lb pull. This will be a range/HD weapon used primarily by me, but able to be used by wife if needed. TIA Kevin Smith & Wesson - Compare Products.pdf
  10. I saw George in the vendor section, could not find a website for him; he mentioned in a post he hoped to have that up soon. I assume he (or any other FFL) would have some type of a "finder's fee"? I'm fine with that so long as it's reasonable. I will probably reach out to him at some point. Cheyenne could have had an M&P on display and I just could not see it through the masses. I still want to have my wife fire off a few rounds on the M&P just to make sure there's no deal breaker from that outcome. This will be my gun, but I want to make sure she can handle it if ever needed.
  11. What about manufacturer support of used? Specifically S&W's Lifetime Service Policy, does that follow the gun? Edit: Found my answer on S&W site: 1. Lifetime Service Policy We will repair any defect in material or workmanship without charge to the original purchaser for as long as you own the handgun.
  12. Location updated. I stopped into Cheyenne yesterday, it was mobbed & my stomach was growling so I didn't stay. Took a quick look (in between bodies) and didn't see any M&P of any variation on display. Trooper told me although I could drop off application 24/7 it was a good idea to do so during "banker hours" since an on duty Trooper during those hours could review at that time and notify me of any potential problems I could address then & there. Problem with that is I work during and beyond "banker hours" so I either take the chance dropping off on my time or wait till mid-June when I'm off and can go on his suggested time.
  13. Greetings all, just joined, lots of great info on here but I did not see an answer to my specific question already. Here's my situation, I've had a FID since 2001, picked up a shotgun when I got it, re-issued my FID about 8 years ago when I moved to a new county, picked up a .22 rifle few years ago. Now I'm looking to get a pistol. I just picked up permit application yesterday, dealing with NJSP in Hamilton (Mercer Co) since I have no local PD. Hoping the permit will be a little faster since I already have my FID?? I've pretty much decided on S&W M&P9, which from what I've read can be tough to locate. A friend of mine really wanted the M&P when he bought but wound up with the Beratta PX4 because he could not find an M&P. I shot his PX4 yesterday, and the M&P (and every other 9mm available at the range) and the M&P called to me the most. So my question... do I try to locate a M&P while waiting on the permit and hope the dealer will hold it for me, or do I need to wait to get my permit? What is the chance a dealer will hold a gun for me while waiting for my permit? Clearly this will vary on the dealer, but which is more likely? If I find the gun and dealer is not willing to hold can I have it sent to an independent FFL while I wait on my permit? TIA Kevin
