Agreed.  First pump was Winchester in 1897.  First semiautomatic Browning 5 years later.  So we're talking over a 100 years for each.  Still more traditional pumps out there than anything else.

Understood but this new variant is still a pump, which I think is part of the appeal--it's not that radical a departure.  What I meant to say is that the DM versions might overtake the magazine tube versions at some point.  I don't see it happening but it's possible.

  2. Can't say enough good stuff about RTSP either. I'm there AT LEAST once a week.

Ventilation is the best of any indoor range I've experienced... but I can't compare to GFH/WPR as I haven't been there yet.

...and the sound levels are tolerable. With good ear protection (electronic muffs, I don't double up).

I have been to both RTSP and GFH and I find the sound level better at RTSP which is why I go there even though GFH is closer to me.

  3. I would like to have an action job done on my 686 with 2.5 inch barrel.  I would like to have the action be as smooth and light as possible while still being 100% reliable with all types of ammo.  The big names like Grant Cunningham always seem to be booked for months/years and I would probably prefer someone relatively local.  I am in norther NJ but would not mind driving1.5 hours plus to drop off.  Thanks for any suggestions.

  4. Today I made the long drive from south jersey to north jersey to scoop up a Tavor that Ottomanelli's was nice enough to hold for me. After a ridiculously long drive due to horrible traffic and rain I can honestly say I just wanted to get the trip over with. However, shortly after my arrival I found myself hanging out and talking with the staff, just shooting the breeze. They were some of the nicest people I've met. They welcomed me as soon as I walked in.

The process was quick and easy (and enjoyable). They knew I made a really long drive and were even kind enough to offer me food (multiple times) that they had just ordered for themselves. They were extremely polite and friendly. They made me feel very welcome and expressed such gratitude toward me for making the drive and giving them business.

I can honestly say that I will be using them again in the future. I recommend everyone to go check them out sometime. If anyone from Ottomanelli's is reading this I appreciate your service. You guys were great.

Always great to hear about a positive transaction with good people.  What NJ compliant muzzle brake/comp did you put on it?

  5. Dont go to far west. Middle America pays nothing and Cali is a basket case. Stay around NY .People have been saying it stinks since the nation was founded.LOL

    But the money is here.

I don't know about that, Texas is kicking butt right now and it's not just oil, so the money is also "there".  OP you are doing a great thing for your son.

  6. Amazing these were selling for double that not too long ago. Maybe more than double. At that price, is there any reason to consider anything else under $1000??

I guess the only reason would be if one is set on a mid-length gas system which Colt does not offer.

  7. Then federal excise tax kicks in..........complete guns have this built into the price from the factory, gun parts do not - part of the reason it's cheaper to build your own AR from parts then buy one complete. The dealer would then need to collect the excise tax, most are not set up to do so.

I understand but aside from the tax issue the transfer would then be legal.  This is an important issue for me at this moment because I have an upper at an FFL in PA who is pinning the muzzle brake and removing the bayo lug to make it nj compliant.  I am also looking to buy a complete lower on Black Friday that I plan to have sent to him for the pinning of the stock and the transfer.

  8. It's not a NJ law, it's a federal law.  While he can sell it to you, it would have to be transferred by an FFL in the state in which you are a resident.  On the 4473, receivers, no matter what condition (stripped, with partial LPK, or complete with stock), are transferred as "Other" which an FFL can only transfer to a buyer at least twenty one years of age and a resident of the same state.

What if the shop in PA has a complete lower with stock and you send them your complete upper and they put it together before transferring it to you?  At that point aren't they transferring a complete rifle to you?

  9. Wow... just as I'm in the market for a 6920.  OP are you picking one up?  I wonder if they will ship to a NJ FFL.

Does Colt produce NJ compliant rifles from the factory?  Or are all the Colt rifles in NJ neutered at the FFL upon arrival?

I picked one up during the summer for $1,200 so I'll pass on this.  There is an NJ compliant Colt from the factory but they are hard to find.

  10. Hows this handled.  Do we have it sent to a NJ FFL who can also make it compliant?

A lot of vendors will not ship a non nj compliant rifle into NJ even to a NJ FFL.  When I bought my Cot 6920 Magpul edition over the summer (for $1,200) I had it shipped to a PA FFL who did the compliance work as well as the transfer.  I picked up the rifle from him in PA.  I can give you my FFL's info if you want.  He is in Bucks County.

  11. With ranges like RTSP and GFH setting the bar so high, small ranges need to step it up if they want to keep customers.

That is the way capitalism is supposed to work!  Competition creates the best product/service. I agree with the general positive comments about Bullet Hole.

  12. Thats the beauty of the 14.5" though, it already has a dynacomp pinned and welded on....

You are absolutely right, plus the the 14.5" is a true lw pencil barrel while the 16" is an "optimum profile" so you do save a few ounces there in addition to the 1.5" in barrel length.  One factor that made up my mind is that I probably would have switched out the BAR rail.  While everything I read says that it is a great rail it is really too large for someone with small hands.

  13. I was really torn between waiting for the 14.5" lightweight upper to become available again or going for the one below which was available a couple of weeks ago.  I ultimately ordered the 16" upper and it is now sitting at my FFL's waiting for me to decide on a brake to make it NJ compliant.  Still debating whether to go with a battlecomp or dynacomp.
