  1. Exactly what I thought as well after digging in an reading more about it. I am under the impression the Mini has not other evil features that would disqualify the this break even if it was truly a flash hider. Thanks for the input.
  2. I would like to install a factory Ruger made muzzle brake from a new Mini-14 Tactical onto my older 196 series Mini Ranch. I purchased the (claimed Ruger OEM) part un-used. The plan was to turn down the threads on the muzzle break ID then press fit and weld or pin in place to the stainless barrel. My local shop agreed to do the work then called and said the muzzle break is really a flash hider and not legal in NJ. He is a good guy/gun smith so and I did not press forward as it is not worth the risk to either of us. Not having it is really not a big deal but now I am curious as to the lagality and the proper application of the law in NJ. I did some research online and undersand the barrel threading issue (which we overcame). However, the muzzle break/flash suppressor issue is a litte murky. This supposed Ruger OEM break is only lightly largr than that bore for the first part that threads (or slides in this case) over the barrel end but does open up to about .3750 ID through the caged length. I can't fit my pinky finger inside the cage bored portion. I suppose confirming the muzzle break is indeed a Ruger OEM part is the first step. I am reasonably sure the Mini Tactical is legal in NJ and that sports the same break. If anyone can add input for clarity (or for my own education) it would certainly be appreciated.
  3. Took me only one week to receive the exemption back through the local PD "after" the lost paperwork issue was corrected. Total of three weeks including the lost 0016 form exercise. However, I will say that my local PD and the women at the NJSP were very kind and very helpful and did a fine job helping me out.
  4. Funny. Exact same thing happened to my paperwork as well. NJSP claimed local PD never sent the 0016 form or it was lost. Same time frame as well, between Christmas and the first week of the new year. Starnge...
  5. More efficient to complete everything at one time (P2P, SP015 & SP016 originals) and submit at local PD. You can get permits first and then go back for the exemption by submitting the 015 & 016 forms as I have recently done. However, it is time consuming. As others have said, these must now be sent to NJSP through your local PD. Thanks to the good people and information I obtained herein I was able to apply for and be granted an exemptioin.
