  1. mikeyjones, I just came across this technology (I don't own it, nor endorse it) that adds an "airsoft blowback co2" recoil feature to your actual firearm (presently Glock, SIG, Berretta, Colt 1911/clones). Its called CoolFire Recoil Laser System, it is expensive but they claim the blowback exceeds the felt recoil of a 9mm. It looks interesting but I need to use the $$ for "live" ammo and get back out to the range. My "Laser Laboratory" is giving me a false sense of mastery so I'll do a hybrid training approach now that winter is over. http://coolfiretrainer.com/whatpeoplearesayingdetail.asp?id=12 BTW Enjoy your LaserLyte System, In addition to the reactive targets, I augment with bicycle reflectors (some are still attached the bicycles collecting dust in my basement... spring cleaning) !!
  2. I had a session with DVC Performance Training and he was great. I was 3 months into USPSA (a novice) and DVC Performance knew there were so many things I needed to improve, but focused on the the few that would get me somewhat competitive quickly....Trigger, Transitions, Splits, Cadence and Counting. He is a great instructor, great shooter, yet never makes you feel inferior. I am scheduling another session with him next month. My dry firing consist of pure dry fire but I introduced Laser Lyte laser cartridges and "reflectors" glued to a 3 target USPSA Array in my basement (se photo below) , The 9mm Laser Lyte chambers in my 38 Super Tanfoglio (in picture) and my 9mm Sig 229 DA. I mention the Sig because I can repeat firing the laser cartridge without having to manually rack the slide (benefits of a DA). This helps in splits and transitions. A DAA SHOTMAXX Timer / Watch can be set to pick up "airsoft" and thus, dry fire hammer hits get recorded on high sensitivity. I also put a C-More on the Sig, so at least the Red Dot Acquisition is similar between the 2 platforms, Sounds a bit expensive....BUT 1) no ammo costs, 2) no travel time 3) no set-up/break down time 4) no gun cleaning afterwards. Just "cleaning the basement honey, I'll be up in 1/2 hour" [Note to Self....clean up that basement, the photo is embarrassing]. Nothing replaces "live" practice on "real" arrays, but the LaserLyte dry fire allows for plenty of trigger time, transition time, split counts, cadence and counting where the strike hit on each target. Howard mention the simulator by LaserAmmo folks in NY. I have their Personal Electronic Target System (PET) along with their revolver laser cartridges (LasetLyte doesn't make 357 or 45lc) and the products work great. I spoke to them regarding the simulator and said to make sure your projector can generate enough lumens for the camera to pick up in all lighting conditions. Maybe we can create a USPSA Laser Simulator Range without the regulatory hassle of a Firearm Range and then franchise it throughout the world. We can call it RTSP (Real Time Simulator Practice), ooops (RTSP1) Peter...you guys already have that name. Safety Note: Always remember to remove the LaserLyte Cartridge from the chamber before going "LIVE".
  3. I was there in February and was certainly disappointed. But I am an OPTIMIST by nature and in this situation…..I’m optimistic ! I competed in 10 USPSA Matches at RTSP and improved considerably from a novice to ‘soon-to-be” winner (I’m an optimist, not too humble though). Every time I stepped in the door of RTSP on a Sunday Night, I knew we were going to have a great match, with great stages, great comradely, in a great “all-seasoned” environment where safety is paramount. This was all courtesy of RTSP and our USPSA Match Director (of course the Staff and dedicated competitors/volunteers). Enormous amount of time and resources are dedicated to the success of these USPSA matches (at every location) and I am fortunate for the experience. I’d like to use this thread to let the Organizers (RTSP and Aaron) know that they did a great job and their efforts were appreciated. I want USPSA back at RTSP and if there is anything I can do, you have my time, my sweat and any resource at my disposal to make it happen. Austin
  4. Mikeyjones, There are a few Tanfoglio gurus on Brian Enos and it has been useful, but the undocumented variety of mix and match frames to slide etc would be easier to grasp if I could temporarily swap a "Hunter Slide" on my competition frame. Dry firing someone's enhanced trigger would give me that tactile confirmation . EAA is the USA distributor and accessing Tanfoglio engineers in Italy is out of the question. I like the platform, so I'll continue to tweak.... Thanks for the suggestion.... Austin
  5. I enjoy performance tuning my Tanfoglio and extending it's capabilities. Looking for folks who have personally tuned their Tanfoglio (trigger, springs, sear(Evolution Gun Works or Eric's Xtreme), hammer (EGW or Titan) , Firing Pin, custom barrel). I have a "competitive" trigger pull but looking for a definitive reset. My reset is short, but I think it can be better. The other area for discussion is lock-up and lugs. I have @3,000 rounds through mine and still no sign of any wear. I'm using a Henning ConeFit guiderod and shock buffer to cushion the frame and Mil-Comm TW25B grease on the lugs & Wilson Ultra Lube on the rails. Below is a link to a recent 'speed" session where I take the Tanfoglio to "my" current human limitations. The Glock in the video was the first gun I tuned and it still functions great. At high speeds it "bucks like bronco", but taming it is part of the fun. https://youtu.be/aBfuZkr6NGI *** Note *** Both firearms in the video are for competition only. Modifications void all warranties.
  6. NJ Members.....don't leave NJ until you vote in 2017. The amazing thing about politics is that a statistical majority on paper doesn't translate to an election win. Here in NJ, a large percentage of registered democrats NEVER make it to the polls. The "low hanging fruit" are "pressure-registered" as the politicians meet/greet & promise and then do not turn out in November to vote (see statistics below). This is a clear advantage to gun owners and Pro-2nd Amendment advocates (assuming you will vote for a Republican Governor to keep your 2nd Amendment Protected). I understand that aligning to a political party is broader than any single issue (2nd Amendment) in most cases, but this is a defining moment in history, and forces larger and wealthier than the NRA will be mobilizing the "low hanging fruit" for the next NJ Gubernatorial Election. If you want to stay in NJ and keep your current 2nd Amendment (albeit abbreviated) rights, Vote for the Republican Governor 2017. DON'T BE COMPLACENT, BLOOMBERG WAS LAST SEEN HEADING EAST THROUGH THE LINCOLN TUNNEL, his 1st target in November 2016 --> Congressman Scott Garrett (Rated "A" by the NRA) . Here are the recent voting statistics in summary (followed by links to the State of NJ Official Postings): Governor Race Results 2001: Democratic Votes: 1,256,000 (57%) Republican Votes: 928,000 (42%) OUCH !!! Governor Race Results 2005: Democratic Votes: 1,224,000 (55%) Republican Votes: 985,000 (44%) ouch Governor Race Results 2009: Democratic Votes: 1,087,000 (48%) Republican Votes: 1,175,000 (52%) winner Governor Race Results 2013: Democratic Votes: 809,978 (39%) Republican Votes: 1,279,000 (61%) Victory The percentage of democratic votes in 2009 as a percent of all registered democrats -->: 62% The percentage of republican votes in 2009 as a percent of all registered republicans -->: 111% The percentage of democratic votes in 2013 as a percent of all registered democrats -->: 44% The percentage of republican votes in 2013 as a percent of all registered republicans -->: 117% 48% of NJ Voters are UNAFFILIATED with either party....48% !!!!! If we don't convince the Unaffiliated to vote for our 2nd Amendment Rights, then Michael Bloomberg and his legions of "Everytown for Gun Safety Confiscation" will control all branches of the NJ Government and there will be no Executive VETO Power to stop the Sweeny/Weinberg machine. The Right to Vote, like The Right To Bear Arms was provided to each of us in the United States Constitution......"Ignore it and it WILL go away; Invoke it and you WILL always have a say". (hmmm, I might coin this phrase) Recent NJ Governor Results (2009 link below, 2013 available as well): http://www.state.nj.us/state/elections/election-results/2009-official-general-election-gov-lt-gov-tallies-120109.pdf Most Recent NJ Party Registration Results: http://www.state.nj.us/state/elections/2015-results/2015-1201-voter-registration-by-county.pdf
  7. RTSP I am writing to let you know how much I appreciate the outstanding customer service, products and events that your facility offers. I’ve been an RTSP member for about 6 months and never formally said “Thanks”. I attended a training event last evening (Jan 15, 2015) and realized just how important RTSP is to the firearm enthusiast as well as the competitive sport shooter (in my case, “a want2be competitive sport shooter). With that, I say Thank-You. Being relatively new to the firearms arena, your staff has always made my time at RTSP pleasant and “safe”. The experienced firearm staff members have always created an environment where new skills can be developed in an encouraging and supportive manner. You have a wide selection of firearms and I have been very happy with the quality and price on the ones I purchased from you. I got burnt when I tried “The Internet Route” on an expensive SW revolver (a proxy for a Colt Python), and discovered a gash on the frame when I picked it up at a LGS. With 2 days until expiration on my NJ handgun permit, shipping it back to Kentucky was not an option. I had no choice but to accept it and spend 2 weeks using Mothers Mag Wheel Polish and striping the “beaded” finish. The couple of dollars I saved in my auction, cost me more in time and frustration. The training I received last evening however, is the impetus for this memo. Target plinking is fun, but I have always been a competitive sports participant. I played scholastic basketball, tennis, downhill skiing and my favorite….surfing the wild waves “down the shore” in Ocean Beach NJ. Age wreaks havoc on the knees and I thought my favorite pastimes where just that…past times. Then RTSP introduced “INDOOR USPSA”. Talk about having to teach an “Old Dog, New Tricks”. I’m totally jazzed , it ain’t surfing but it is pretty close. Once again you evolved your business model and offered me (us) a clean, safe, well organized platform to develop my competitive shooting skills and another chance to experience “The Thrill of Victory or The Agony of Defeat”. Thanks again….”Surf’s UP” Austin
