  1. One thing I wish I could find was a framed collection of what looked like every bullet Hornady made at the time.  It was about 18" w by 12" h.  The one I saw was on the wall in Sayreville Sportsman back around 1978.  They had another one but I forget what brand.  Maybe Remington.  It was pretty cool.  I've looked on ebay and Amazon and couldn't find anything close.

Did some searching as I was writing and found this.  Not exactly what I remember. I think the background was black or green velvet.  But cool in any case.

Speer (CCI) has made some.  This one's more of what I had in mind.

  2. Last weekend was a bust as far as getting started. This weekend should be better. I'm gonna go with started plants and just get whatever area I can prep started. Tomatoes and peppers are easy to find. Hopefully find more than just bell peppers. Hot would be nice. Will have see what else is available and will have to check what's not too late to start from seeds at this point. Probably basil. Was hoping to be able to do string beans. Will see what happens.

  3. I think enough shits been thrown around. Alex, you and Newtonian aren't going to be having tea together anytime soon. And I doubt there would be any fallout from the posted info......beyond the shit storm here....

Like Deerslayer wrote, we're pretty passionate about this stuff. A lot of other people including you and Newtonian said the same thing. Maybe we all can't work together but if enough do, it could cause some good outcomes. One thing that gets any politician's attention is a big enough group of people demanding they do something...or don't do something. The key ingredient is -big-. We sure as hell aren't going to make the most out of these efforts if we waste our time on crap like these battles. It would be better for us and our rights if we got as fired up about that and the wars we could wage there rather than crap like this.

Always easier said than done. But possible.

  4. Thank you Alex. I might not have posted the phone number though.

Newtonian, if you wrote that email, any particular reason you denied doing it? I have no issue with someone putting their money and time where there mouth is, but I do have a problem with someone blatantly lying about it. Brings into doubt..well...just about everything else.

  5. Alex, if you have information that shows someone who posts here is here to create problems for this group and our rights in this state, then you need to post it. You can't walk into a room full of people, point someone out and say "liar"... Then leave it at that.

I have no idea who Newtonian is outside of this forum. I don't get the troll vibe. I do get the grouch vibe. Sorry Newtonian...just being honest.

But don't toss the furniture around and leave. I get why someone saying your efforts are a waste would piss you off. No way should you fluff it off. But also consider that -how- you defend your cause impacts what people may think of it. If you know he is behind some other effort to sabotage the recall, or if you "think" he's behind it, because someone out there is making calls or sending emails, you should spell it out clearly.

For the record I support the recall effort. But we should be doing a lot more and suspect we will.

  6. Too bad it's Philthy that you're going to. Open carry is legal in PA everywhere except with the city limits of Philthy. Or schools/government buildings. Best bet is to take a weekend trip to Texas. That's the last option for a non resident concealed cary permit still honored in PA..

How ironic. The place where you'd need it most has restrictions. Nice that they give the advantage to the thugs.

But concealed carry would still be allowed in Philly?

  7. There are several places in TX that do the training, qualifying, and offer fingerprinting on site.  It's certainly possible to fill out the application on line, fly down the evening of day one, take the class and fly back the next evening.

I looked into it and it could all be done for about $750 including travel, hotel, permit fees, and class fees.  Could completed over a weekend.

So you do this, then can carry in PA. Maybe worth doing if you're in PA every so often. But what I don't see as easy is driving there with the gun. It would need to be stored per NJ transport and your "reason" would have to be going to (and from) a range in PA should you find yourself in a situation requiring an explanation. Best join a club in PA with 24 hr access maybe.

Starting to sound a little complicated to use it to carry in PA.

  8. I may go with a 4x4 box Vlad. Pretty sure I have the wood. Soil should be a little easier to manage. Mostly I want to see if the box does any better than what I can do with my soil.

Nice box AS350. Looks like cedar.

Newtonian. That sounds like a decent sized garden. Carrots take some effect from what I recall. I'm thinking of peppers, tomatoes, string beans. And if I have enough space, some zucchini.

  9. Kevin125 - I took out the grass along one side of property line. Like 2-3 wide but 15 feet long where I'll plant food. I have a wider section near the house with flowers and shrubs.

You don't need to be fancy. Just dirt, proper sunlight and water.

I have an area in mind that has decent soil and gets full sun.  Probably be about the size you described.  I'll do some flower pots as well but I can't leave them on the deck like we did a few times int he past. It's get so damn hot on there I'm pretty sure what ever we plant just cooks.  Our lone tomato plant last year was a sad sight.  Going to try leaving the pots on the ground near the garden.

    And good fertilizer :)

Right. I have a decent amount of composted leaves as well.

While I like the idea of raised beds we have always done without them, good soil with organic fertilizer and I've always had nice yields from my plants.

I have heard you also get better drainage with raised beds.

Wanted to build one but time is my enemy.  So taking your path for this year I think.  I'm trying to make sure I have time to do this. Even a small construction project probably wouldn't help.

  10. I'll need to read her bill.   I do think we need more hunting and I have no problem with the hunters who hunt today being able to sell their game at weighing stations, if such places still exist.  Buyers could show up and buy what they want.  But the payment to professional hunters to just drop deer?  I would agree that would be a waste.  Open the access up and the problem will be resolved.  And extend the season or the limits.   I think that's been done at least a little since I used to deer hunt.

    +1 on the Coyotes.  lol

Seems like a good, lighting initiated forest fire would also address the tree harvesting issue.  From what I recall, in the long run, those fires while dangerous, are beneficial to the forest.

Tough fight against the tree huggers in this state. They have Christie's ear as well as all the Dems.

  11. ^^^ Wrong!!!! I'm the natural predator to every deer. Unfortunately for your tulips, other yard foliage, & auto collision premiums, I'm grossly outnumbered. If there were more of me there would be less of a deer population problem in the state.

LOL... was doing a search and came across this.  Funny.

But the deer issue is a royal pain in the ass.  One ran into the side of my brand new truck in January.  A week later I plowed one into eternity with my SUV.  Casagrande's bill for commercial hunting is still sitting in the Dem control Agro committee.  It's been sitting there for 20 months.  As long as it doesn't screw up non-commercial hunting, they should actually pass it.

30K deer get killed by vehicles per year.  50K taken by hunters.  Nowhere near enough.  Makes me want to put up a stand in my yard for bow season.

Pretty soon I'd bet we'll see some pretty sick deer.  A couple of years ago, they starting eating stuff they don't normally eat.  That means their food is getting scarce.  It happened in Black River State Forest a long time ago when the state banned hunting there.  I remember hearing about it when I was a teenager starting to hunt back in the late 70's.

Anyway... Deerslayer... spend some time in Monmouth County. We topped the list of counties in the state for the number of dead deer that needed to be hauled to the dump.

Oh yeah.. and I also had Lyme's disease back in 2013.  ....*#@^#*&ing  deer....

  12. Thnx Vlad.  I was thinking it helps with drainage as well.  I've got some big flower pots and a decent location to try.  I'll give something a shot this weekend.  And I'll probably see you Sunday at CJRPC match.  I'll be the guy walking around looking like he's lost.

  13. Well, I did some searching here and could not find a thread on the subject of a NJ resident transporting long guns to a range in NYC.  Staten Island to be specific.

After some web searching and some reading about at least some of the laws in NYC.... I'm thinking I'd rather go back in time and try to infiltrate Berlin in 1942 than take my rifles to NYC.

I don't think FOPA applies since the beginning and ending state border each other.

But if anyone has any info on this, I'd appreciate it.  At this point though, I'm probably telling my friend he has to come to NJ to shoot with me.

  14. i've never liked or trusted those storage places. a guy i used to work for back in the 90's had spare shop equipment stored at one........and a lot of that shit vanished. i prefer the idea of renting a room with a friend, and keep them in a cabinet locked in that room

Agree.  The units are easy to break into for someone that wants to get into a unit. If they have cameras, that might make it harder, but some of these places don't pay attention to the cameras. Come back a couple months after the previous visit and your guns are gone.  The manager will probably just shrug.

Interesting option but I wouldn't do it.

  15. I have a question for those with gardens.  Do you use beds like these? or just prep flat ground?  The bed this guy is preparing seems somewhat hard core.  Landscape mat, about 12" of vertical board and some critter fence.  But this guy probably doesn't have deer since those arborvitae haven't been touched.  I'm thinking about just planting a few things in the hopes I can get the kids to help out a bit.  But I don't want to build these sorts of beds if I don't have to.

  16. And with a storage unit you need to stay on top of the payment. If a card on file expires and you miss a notice from the storage place, you could lose everything there in a short time.

What about an out of state commercial firearms storage outfit? I know that's an on the record move, but it seems to me like it would be as legal as putting a safe in a buddies PA house. It's not a transfer. Seems no different than handing it to an out of state gunsmith. Other than the cost.

    I'll look one up.

  17. Lol thanks guys for all the info. I'm coming from San Antonio. I love my guns and I'm just glad y'all have shooting ranges there. I'm moving there because I inherited a house up there. I just became retired (medically) from the military with 100% disability and luckily don't have to pay property tax because of that. I plan on going to school full time to finish up my degrees. I'll be moving near McGuire AFB. I'll be up there in December. I'll keep an eye out for shooting ranges and competitions. Just hope I don't get in trouble up there

We'll thank you for your service I hope your condition doesn't impede what you want to accomplish in your life. Sounds like you've got that covered.

Skeet and trap, 200 yd rifle. 50 yd pistol. Archery. You can hunt and fish the property. Paintball and airsoft. All outdoor.

I would urge you to consider at some point a move to any other state but NJ. If you like this part of the country and are headed back to school, there are a multitude of excellent schools in PA. Many with online options to save on travel effort. But firearms are under attack in NJ. Gun owners are viewed little differently than violent criminals. Leave your Glock in your car accidentally and you will be treated more harshly than a guy who robbed a convenience store with a knife.

In any event, maybe we'll run into each at a local range. Good luck with the move and make sure you know what is and is not legal regarding firearms here. You don't want to be that guy in the news.

  18. Did a number of gardens as a kid. Mixed success. Really liked gardening but I just don't have time unfortunately. You guys have some nice gardens underway. Definitely nice to grow your own vegetables.

Friend of mine always talks about potato beetles. Basically has to deal with them manually. Lot of work goes into it. So hats off to you guys.
