Feels like just yesterday I was listening to people argue whether it was worth it to reload 9mm.

Are NICS checks not happening on weekends?

They posted on Facebook they have reopened two days ago.

Rock Island Armory GI Series FS in .45 ACP.
Feels super comfortable in my hand. Loved holding it.

Went to my FFL to pick up my 1911. It's like 1000% more beautiful than its pictures. Totally forgot about how long NICS is taking. Used to take me 10 minutes. When the guy said, "Okay, it'll be about 4-5 days, do you want to pay now or when you pick it up?" it felt like being stabbed in the heart.
4-5 days now for a simple NICS check RIGHT after having just gone through the 44 day NJ background check.

Probably the same reason we want conceal carry: just in case. No one EXPECTS to need to shoot someone. I think we'd all like to go our entire lives without being in a situation where we need to shoot someone in self-defense. But if something happens where you would need it, better to be prepared and not need it than not be prepared and need it.

i.e. "most" people who purchase a handgun in N.J. won't go out and shoot someone illegally, (but then again some probably will).
Well, at least they are doing the right thing and pointing out that legal gun owners aren't the problem.
Holy fuck, went to picked up my 1911 today. I forgot NICS was delayed. My FFL says 4-5 days right now.

5 hours ago, Bomber said:"Maurice Elias, professor of psychology at Rutgers University believes that most people who put their permit to use and actually purchase a handgun are doing so "defensively," not to "go out and shoot somebody."
Or to put it another way, according to the professor, "most" people who legally purchase a handgun in N.J. won't go on a shooting rampage. However, a certain unnamed percentage intend to use their handgun offensively.
So most people who buy a gun legally will use it legally? Do people actually get paid to make these observations?

It's a hard pass from me, dawg.

Yea, my FFL is out of the 1911s I want. But the price they offered me for when it comes in is better than anything I can find so win.

Picked up my two permits today. Chief put the expiration as the end of January. What a guy.

This distinction is given “for advocating for gun violence prevention and making a commitment to govern with gun safety in mind.”
She is simply a full Socialist Dem running as a Republican. She will battle Jeff Van Drew in November,
She's running as a Democrat. Jeff Van Turncoat is running as a Republican.
I've been following her campaign since she started. Gun control is not remotely something she's focused on. Not once has she even advocated gun control this whole time.

It's been a while since I've shot there, but I think targets were at 50, 100 and 150 yards. I recall them being relatively strict about the hour time limit which I found ridiculous since it wasn't closed to packed (this was last year).
They've got nice tables to shoot off of. Tables are under cover.

Correction: Cheap digital scales suck.
12 minutes ago, Heavyopp said:This shit we buy isn't scientific quality -- your really gonna bet your hand on a $39 scale from amazon?
You get what you pay for. But my 50g weights for my RCBS Chargemaster are indeed 50.0g. I like that it does a 3 point calibration. I confirm it with a second set of standard weights I have.
But yea, those tiny little pocket digital scales are garbage.

Naw, there are plenty of AR-15 platforms that are totally legal in NJ.
S&W M&P 15
Ruger AR 556
You basically just can't have one that is capable of automatic fire. Also limited on some accessories.
But there are plenty of NJ legal versions.

27 minutes ago, Smith said:Does anyone know what’s NICS delay. My FFL dropped application on Thursday. Still no response( as expected)...does NJ adhere 3 days federal rule? So can he hand me over the gun after three days of application and no NICS response?
With the state of emergency, they probably are able to get away with extending the 3 day rule.

learn your equipment
If the minimum load is 4, why would you start at 3.8? Undercharging is how you get a squib.
As Scorpio said, just get a set of test weights. Actually, everyone should have a set of test weights. I check before I start, halfway through, and at the end. If the halfway point passes but the end fails, you only have to pull the 2nd half since you can't know when after the midway test your calibration went bad.

I don't reload handgun (though I might if I ever get my damn handgun permit and get my .45). But there doesn't seem to be nearly as much wiggle room as there is with rifle rounds. Looking at Hodgdon's website, the difference between min and max is only 0.4gr worth of powder for some of them. So if I was loading a round with a min of 4gr and max of 4.5gr, I'd start at 4gr and if the accuracy isn't there, increase by 0.1gr at a time but I doubt you'll need to stray much from there.

Small rifle primers are hard to come by today. Only ones I can easily find are Remington 7 1/2 on Midsouth Shooters.
My mentor always told me, buy in bulk. You never know when supplies will run dry.

It's one of the things I like about using a single stage press and just using my chargemaster. I know for a fact if I put powder in there or not and how much powder it was.

Full Metal Jacket in Upper Township has been open for like a month or so.
There's a few other indoors that already opened in the last week or so.

It's not something you can get around. $15 state fee if I recall correctly.

5 minutes ago, Cheflife15 said:I mean wouldnt it make sense to get something that's initially easier to shoot? If hes not looking to buy multiple guns and just wants something easy to maintain and shoot for self defense i don't see why a glock wouldn't fit?
You gotta practice regardless.
Just my 2 cents
Yea, I'd say just make sure to try a few different guns first. Grab a Walther, grab a Sig, grab a S&W.

It's all personal taste. Nothing particularly wrong with Glocks. Epic loads of aftermarket support for them. You can customize the hell out of them. So if that's what you want, go for it. Just depends on whether you want that style or not.

Midway had some .45 ACP Blazer Brass for 36cpr earlier this week. That went fast.
My LGS has American Eagle TMJ for 26cpr but will only sell you two boxes at a time max.
