in my opinion sometime sales are less important than diluting the brand.   Colt's bread and butter is being "mil-spec"  the closer they are to that the better.   i think the expanse was a mistake.

Getting quality AR rifles into the market is never a mistake.

The mistake was shutting Expanse production down right before the biggest panic buying of all time and then stopping civilian sales of Colt rifles soon after and months before an election year.

Ranks up there with Remington closing down Bushmaster/DPMS around the same time.

If it’s not chrome lined, it’s not a legit 6920 upper. The actual upper receiver may be from Colt, though.

I have seen a few Expanse models with CL barrels. Most of them have unlined barrels.

Yeah, you're right. Upper receiver is C marked Colt, the barrel is the heavier profile Expanse version with M4 feed ramps.

Colt did some weird things with the Expanse.

I have seen some Expanse models that had legit 6920 uppers. As Rutgers95 points out, most likely contract overruns.

I have also seen hot garbage turned out by the 3rd party that made them for Colt.

Mine is very late production and has the 6920 upper.

Only gripe I have is the barrel is slightly nose heavy. CL lined would have been a nice option.

Otherwise no complaints.. Zero play between the upper and lower, excellent trigger, smooth action, F marked FSB, finish is perfect.

just looked, one sold for less than an m&p and another for the price of an m&p in THIS mkt.  people can ask whatever they want but no one is paying 1k for a 2nd rate rifle with 1/8 twist unlined 4140 barrels.  A sucker is born everyday they say and It's great to have a cheap beater but buyer beware.  Even you thought they were associated with them based on your first post which I can see given how they were marketed but man the market has gotten wise to things.

either way, glad you are happy and at the end of the day, as long as they go bang!!!!  :)

It has a 1/7 twist barrel BTW.

S&W M&P15 is non-chromed lined as well and they sell boat loads of them, which was my original point, not that the Expanse was the equivalent of the 6920.

You can sell in parts but you won't get what you paid for it as a full rifle as anyone with half a clue knows these have nothing to do with Colt.

    Paid $600 for my Expanse.

They currently sell around $1000 on Gunbroker,  even without a genuine "C" marked upper.

I could likely get a nice premium as well since it's now N.J compliant.

    zero connection to Colt....ZERO

Don't care, and neither would the many buyers in that segment of the market.

Colt could take some lessons from them.

They were well made rifles at a good price, very accurate and as I said mine has a genuine 6920 upper.

what I find funny is that I seem to think colt needs to do 3 (maybe 4) things for the civilian market and they seem unable to do any of them but they always get close.

I'll add Colt really messed up opportunity to capitalize on the Colt Expanse as a direct competitor to the S&W M&P Sport (which Smith is selling as fast as they can make them).

I have a Colt Expanse, the fit and finish is excellent and it has a 6920 C marked upper.

If Colt had included flip up sights and some Mag-Pul stocks like they offer on the new 6920 it would probably be a top seller now.

I would have been tempted to say "Shooting bullets. I wouldn't use a gun to flip burgers, would I?"

They pulled that crap on my GF at the time in East Hanover.

What do you want a gun for? Target shooting she answered, (for some reason I suspected they were going to ask that and had briefed her on what to say.

Then the cop whips out to a polaroid camera and takes her photo!

Yes, she was very attractive but that is not part of the application process.  Sick bastard probably took it home with him..

I guess. I'm just trying to avoid having to go in february with 6' of snow on the ground, which is how it will work for me.

I usually take off my own inspections sticker and clean the old adhesive before going because my vehicle has heating elements on the glass and I hate the way those guys hack off the old stickers with their dull scrapers.

Last time I wasn't paying attention and the guy put on an April sticker when I had a September due date, he said that what the registration date was, true, but now I lost 5 months and didn't want to be stuck with an April due date.

Covid rolls in and with the extensions I didn't have to go until Sept after all.   I took my sticker off as usual beforehand, got a lane where I could watch and talk to the guy doing the inspection.

He was grouch of course but told him that I always had September due date but they gave me an April sticker last. He said if was always Sept that what it should be and he put a Sept sticker on for me.

Moral of the story: it never hurts to ask if you know what I mean.

I have a .380 EZ for introducing newbies to handguns so we can get right to it. My suggestion would be no thumb safety. With the mandatory grip safety, and proper handling and holstering, you don't need it. It's an additional checkpoint on your training list, and something sometimes forgotten in the heat of a moment.

That was exactly my thinking when I purchased the .380 EZ.

Now that I've spent time with it I'd rather have the thumb safety version. The trigger is too light and the grip safety very easy to engage. Not worth the risk with the internal hammer just for some hypothetical quick draw situation IMO.

Also, the thumb safety version can be easy converted to a non-thumb safety but not vice versa. S&W offers inserts to close the gaps in the frame after removing the safety lever.

I'm looking at these because my girlfriend has an f'd up finger and has trouble pulling the slide on our Glock 17.

.380 or 9mm?  Thumb safety or no?  What's the difference with the "Performance Center models?

The .380 EZ is noticeably easier to operate and control than the 9mm EZ, even more so for a female with an injured finger.

The 9mm EZ is a nice weapon but has the same 8 round capacity as the .380, thus you get more weight, recoil and a harder to operate slide for the debatable increased stopping power of 9mm.

If it was for you I'd say get the 9mm, for her, the .380 EZ. Much better for your GF to comfortably put 8 rounds of a slightly less powerful cartridge on target then miss with a snappy 9mm.

As for the thumb safety: YES. The EZ Shields are internal hammer fired guns with short, very light triggers.

IMO the Performance Center models are gimmicky and a waste of money. The stock trigger is already very good, (although on the light side as mentioned). And porting an already soft shooting .380 makes no sense and while putting muzzle flash in the line of sight.

.  Flashbacks of the nightmares of bakers basin lines from the 90’s stops me from going there.

Whew, don't get me started on the hassles of yearly vehicle inspections.

That was one of the best things Christie did by going to two year intervals and getting rid of the safety inspection BS.

As a teenager I'd would have to go to GI auto salvage on a hot sunny day and peel off a valid inspection sticker on one the junkers then slap it on my car.

Can't do that anymore, the stickers fall apart if you try to remove them.

My wife never renewed my registration.     Flashbacks of the nightmares of bakers basin lines from the 90’s stops me from going there.

Better get that registration renewed.  It not like like years ago where they had to run plate #'s manually.

Now the cops have license plate readers on the cars and can tow the vehicle right out from under you for expired registration plus a big fine.

nothing else has changed on paper.  but Ive seen plenty of pictures that make me think they are just subcontracting them out to a cheaper bidder.      they also say "carbine" and no longer say "m4 carbine" on them

And they dropped the Colt name from the roll mark.

Thanks all for the replies and address feedback! I already carry the change of address paper but do plan to try and get down to the DMV.

    Better move quick.

N.J. is ending the practice of getting a DL license in hand the same day.

Randolph DMV was reasonably good last time I had my license renewed. Lord knows what the experience is like now.

I used to go to Wayne DMV but it became a third world SH.

Oh don't worry, I'm on a waiting list on several online stores, I've missed a few sales because the damn permits. I know about the pain.

Having the FID or PP in hand isn't necessary to purchase a firearm or ammo online.

The seller will ship the firearm to an FFL of your choice who can then store it while awaiting the paper work.

Steve at Monmouth Arms hold items free of charge I believe and has great personalized service, no standing at crowded gun counters.

As for ammo, some online sellers want a copy of your FID, I would just avoid them or purchase on gunbroker.com   Ammo can be shipped directly in NJ.

    Malice4you:

I don't get why so many people don't understand the 30 day law. Its so simple.

Receptionist who took in application gets 30 days to hand it over to police

1st police officer has 30 days to send out for references

Then another 30 days after getting references back.

Up to 30 days later, he or she then can send out for background check

When that arrives, another 30 days to send out mental health.

After waiting up to 30 days to decide if your rights matter, the officer then hands the completed approval form back to the receptionist, who has 30 days to type up the permits.

When typed up, receptionist has 30 days to hand the permits over to the captain.

Who, you guessed it, has 30 days to sign them.

At which point, someone is delegated to calling you within 30 days to pick them up during the convenient 3:00-3:15pm timeslot every 5th thursday after a full moon.

Is it really that hard to understand how NJ works?
