  1. the Majority of those guns that you se epictures of were turned over to NOPD because they were in unsecured/unsecurable homes in the flood zone that was frankly a haven for looters after dark.

Given that the above statement is correct, and I have no reason to doubt you, who turned the guns over to the NOPD, and what constitutes an "unsecured/unsecurable home". Were the police breaking into every home in the evacuation area? Would any evacuated home, even if the firearms are safely stored, such as in a safe, be considered unsecured in the evacuated area?

  2. In my experience the blue framed guns are more reliable, but truth be told the conversion kit and complete guns don't all run 100%.

The most common problem i have had with the 17T is that it does not work well with contact shots, and it gives a malfunction like the one pictured below.

Tap, Rack, Reassess will generally get it to fire (and you better be able to do it one handed while rolling around on the ground fighting).

  3. The thread is reason #3 why Joel is the man :icon_twisted:

I am afraid to ask what the first two reasons are :icon_lol:

Does this mean there will be an ECQC evolution at the next class? :icon_twisted:

I have told Chris he can use it if he wants. If you or Tactical Monkey ever want to try it out just let me know and we will get together.

However, if you really want to take ECQC, I am taking it with Southnarc in Culpeper Virginia, November 11-13, if any of the NJ guys would like to join me.

  4. I bet that hurts a hell ofa lot more thana paintball or air soft

That just makes you try harder to not get shot!

if you dont mind me asking how much does all of it cost i was thinking about getting into this

There aren't that many out there, so prices vary quite a bit. They generaly cost about the same as a standard 17 though.

  5. Someone in the local training community recently said that regular guys can not own Sims/Simunition guns.

While Simunition will not sell guns or Sims ammo to regular guys, there is nothing prohibiting ownership. The guns and ammo are out there if you look hard enough. The Glock 17T has to be transfered on a pistol permit just like a normal gun, and you are stuck with 10 round mags in NJ.

With that being said here is a picture of my Glock 17T and some Sims rounds for the doubters.

  6. Citation?

Here is a hard to read PDF of 2005 letter page 1 page 2, and the text in a readable format:

    U.S. Department of Justice

    Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,

    Firearms and Explosives

    NOV 1, 2005

    903050:ELG

    3311/2005-663

    Dear Mr. LESchwartz:

This refers to your letter, received by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Firearms Technology Branch (FTB), September16, 2005, pertaining to a Saiga AK-type semiautomatic rifle. Specifically, you requested a clarification regarding modifications to Saiga rifles. Your letter was forwarded to FTB’s new location in Martinsburg, WV, for reply.

As you may be aware, the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA), 18 U.S.C. § 922®, prohibits assembly of certain semiautomatic rifles and shotguns from imported parts. The implementing regulations contained in 27 CFR § 478.39 (formerly 1 78.39) include the stipulation that “no person shall assemble a semiautomatic rifle or any shotgun using more than 10 of certain imported parts, if the assembled firearm is prohibited from importation under 18 U.S.C. § 925(d)(3) as not being particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes.”

    These parts are tabulated below:

    (1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings.

    (2) Barrels.

    (3) Barrel extensions.

    (4) Mounting blocks (trunnions).

    (5) Muzzle attachments.

    (6) Bolts.

    (7) Bolt carriers.

    (8) Operating rods.

    (9) Gas pistons.

    (10) Trigger housings.

    (11) Triggers.

    (12) Hammers.

    (13) Sears.

    (14) Disconnectors.

    (15) Buttstocks.

    (16) Pistol grips.

    (17) Forearms, handguards.

    (18) Magazine bodies.

    (19) Followers.

    (20) Floor plates.

Because certain AK-type semiautomatic rifles are currently prohibited from importation, the assembly of such rifles using more than 10 of the above imported parts is prohibited under § 922®. However, assembly of AK-type semiautomatic rifles using 10 or fewer of these imported parts is not prohibited under this section.

With respect to the questions in your letter, we will answer them in the order they were posed, as follows:

Question 1: Would modifying a Saiga rifle by replacing the existing buttstock with a ‘thumbhole style” stock result in a rifle prohibited from importation under Title 18 USC, Section 925(d)?

Answer: Yes. if your Saiga rifle is assembled using more than 10 of the imported parts in the above-cited 922®.

Question 2: With reference to the parts listed in Title 27, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part 478 (formerly Part 178), section 478.39©: Is thumbhole style stock counted as a buttstock, as a “pistol grip”, or both?

Answer: Both: The “thumbhole stock” about which you inquire is considered a combination of a pistol grip and a buttstock, therefore counting as two parts with reference to the parts listed in 27 CFR § 478.39© (formerly 178.39©).

Please note that the above answers are applicable to .223, 7.62x39mm, and .308 calibers.

We thank you for your inquiry and trust that the foregoing has been responsive to your questions.

    Sincerely yours,

    Sterling Nixon

    Chief, Firearms Technology Branch

    Edited to add:

    HERE is another letter.

  7. MidwestPX, I can understand why you are excited, and you make a good product, however watching the video is torture.

May I also just add that the guy who made the video seems like a typical Hauges customer :banghead:

  8. As y'all know, I have absolutely no respect for the m16 type rifles. I have carried them in the armpit of the world and was let down by it on more than one occasion.

Would you be willing to share how the m16 platform let you down? I always like to hear first hand accounts, and find them much more valuable than the "I heard from a friend who has a buddy in the army" kind of stories.

  9. Boy, I must have destroyed more brain cells in the 60's than I thought. I was wrong (somebody commemorate that, you won't hear it often :icon_mrgreen: ).

All TLR-1's were LED's. I was correct about the output though. They went from whatever the 80 lumen LED was to a Cree LED which has the output as stated. Sorry for the error. You still need to be aware that the older models are not as bright - but they are LED's. Gotta go take my ginko baloba now.

    Adios,

    Pizza Bob

On the older models TLR-1 you can tell what LED it has by the serial #. If it ends in C4 it has the brighter Cree LED, if not the previous 80 lumen LED.

  10. They are open again, but it is still unclear if they are honoring current memberships.

From people who have been back, I have heard yes, but I have also heard they will only honor your current membership if you pay extra to renew with the new owners/Skip.

  11. Yes, it used to be Eagle Eye, which was a great place with reasonable prices and good staff. I was a member there for years.

However as soon as it became Hagues things changed. They lost me right away with the insane prices, for both product and range time, and the shitty attitudes. It does not look like anything has changed

  12. Well I will tell you a trick that may save you from the same problem in the future. When you go to install the detent, do it in a clear trash bag, or large ziplock, that way if the detent gets away it is caught by the bag before flying off to never never land.
