That Sept. 1st stuff is NY. Doesn't apply to us...yet

It's not illegal
You can ship a rifle/ shotgun through the USPS:
https://www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/may-nonlicensee-ship-firearm-through-us-postal-service
A handgun may be shipped with UPS if you follow their rules (expensive)
Fedex only accepts shipments from FFL.

I have read in some other groups that Judge Rea is handling permits for Middlesex county. He has been on a 3 week vacation and is returning 8/22. I would imagine he will have quite a pile on his desk Monday morning. I just submitted my packet this afternoon, going for prints Monday.

Nothing new. Of the places that will even ship to nj, most ask for FID.

I just got the "Application Approved" email from FARS (Which at this point I'm at 72 days)...... and now the township is saying an additional 6-8 weeks from NOW.Hey Nick, how are you?...
Yes, I got two reference questionnaire complete emails followed by the criminal history check, then application approved. That took exactly 1 month. 6 days later I got the email from OBPD to pick up my permits. Now I'm 24 hours into my wait for NICS...

Applied 7/5 - approved by state 8/5 - picked up @ Old Bridge PD 8/11.

That's a pretty broad statement. I doubt most Kimber owners would agree. I have a few 1911's, two of which are Kimbers. One of them is by far the best shooter I have and I've put at least 4000 rounds through it with out any issues at all.
I'm not a Kimber fanboy or anything, I'm just saying they make nice guns.
OP- There are a lot of nice 1911s on the market. I think learning to properly inspect one is probably more important then what brand you buy.
Personally, I feel the Ruger SR1911 is a great gun for the price though. Under $800,series 70, and made in the USA. You can also get the Colt competition for about the same price (And it's a "Colt" if that matters to you). For a few hundred more you can get Range Officer, or add a couple bucks and get a S&W E-series. For $1200 you can get a Kimber or Sig. $1700 for a Dan Wesson? $2600 for a Les Baer.
I suggest you determine what you want to spend. Then determine what you want. Do you want made in the USA ? That eliminates a number of brands right off the bat. Do you care if it has an internal or external extractor? Do you want a traditional GI style gun or a custom 1911? 5" barrel or 4"? (or maybe 3")
Once you narrow down your choices you need to inspect the gun. Just because a particular model has great reviews doesn't mean the one you're looking at is the best example. I've seen $500 RIA 1911s that could outshoot guns twice their price. Do some research and get your hands on some guns.
Good luck.
Range Officer is also under $800

Yes I know they are different than 1911, I just said if you want something with a hammer and safety.
1911's in 9mm are nowhere nearly as reliable as in .45, go check some of the 1911 forums if you don't believe that. I have never had feed failures in any of my CZ's like I do with 1911's. You can do a lot of work on CZ's and the trigger can be as good as a 1911. My SP01 has a trigger pull of under three pounds.
STI makes great guns and they typically work well after only one return to STI. The first time I sent mine in they had to do machine work to the frame and feed ramp. The second time the barrel link broke because they installed one that was too short from day one.
Howard, Just because you ha trouble with a 9mm 1911, does not mean they are prone to problems. I have over 10k rounds through my S&W 9mm 1911 without any issues whatsoever. Just picked up a Range Officer in 9mm, only has about 200 rounds so far, but they have been flawless as well.

I challenge anyone to show me a package of Taylor ham. Not your really bad photoshop either pat
That's [art of the point. No one can show you a current package of Taylor Ham, big brother banned it!!!

Someone did fix Corso article. It's Pork Roll according to Taylor
http://jerseyporkroll.com/about/

That also basically says that Taylor's was the original.
It also tells me that it is most definitely Taylor Ham! They changed the name because the government changed the definition of "ham". To that I say F the government, it's Taylor Ham!!!
-
Yes because everything on Wikipedia is true. Do you know how wikipedia works? Last I checked Wikipedia said Lee Corso played high school football at South Amboy High School in NJ. Too bad there is no South Amboy High School it was called Hoffman High and he played in Florida.

Yes, I know how it works.
Do you have evidence to refute the info on Wikipedia?

Silly Bennys are still at this? It's Pork Roll. Taylor Ham doesn't even make sense. That's like saying that Taylor invented it. Pork Roll has been around before Taylor Ham brand Pork Roll even existed.

No.
Pork roll (regionally known as Taylor Ham)[1][2] is a pork-based processed meat originating and commonly available in New Jersey, Delaware and parts of Pennsylvania andMaryland. It was developed in 1856[3] by John Taylor of Trenton, New Jersey, and sold as "Taylor Ham". Other producers entered the market, and subsequent food labeling regulations required Taylor to designate it as a "pork roll" alongside their competitors.

One gun that you can shoot in major and minor depending on the stages. You get ten rounds if you shoot minor but only eight in major. Just need to bring two different loads and maybe a different recoil spring if your picky about that kind of thing.
OK, didn't think about bringing 2 different loads and deciding what to shoot after seeing the stages.
I prefer the recoil of 40 over 45, especially in a 1911. All else equal.
I see. Just goes to show that everyone's preference is different. I prefer the .45 in a 1911. If I want softer, I just grab the 9mm 1911.
-
When you say Play in single stack. I assume you mean USPSA?
If so, what would be the point of converting to .40?
I mostly see .45 for major and 9mm for minor.
I'm just curious what you feel you would gain?

It's been a while, but I have seen the occasional TRP at Bullseye Tactical in Woodbridge.
-
Would that be the Rock River Arms LAR-15?
I always wondered about that model number myself, but I do know more than a few people that have them and have had no issues.
-
I'm willing to bet those Dawson mags clear up your problems. I run Wilson ETM's in my 45 RO, never had an issue. The 9's just weren't worth the hassle.

I would also lean heavily towards the mags. When I picked up my S&W 9mm 1911, it came with 2 of the Wilson mags. I had seating issues, as well as feeding issues. Luckily, I had been warned about the seating issues and picked up some Tripp Cobra mags and have not had an issue since.

Had the same problem last year as well. Had to meet Rich at the indoor to pick it up. This year, no problems.
