  1. Do they rent pistols? I only have long guns.
  2. Not sure what you mean Maksim. Are you saying it's not open for regular business on Friday, or are you just saying that it will become more crowded in general with the approach of hunting season?
  3. So I'm trying to plan an epic day on Friday, starting at Lehigh Valley to shoot clays and then driving back to Range 14 to join up and shoot a while before heading home. The Range 14 site says they're open 1-8 on Fridays this time of year. Can someone confirm that, and also confirm if you can join and shoot in the same day? Also, I'm wondering if anyone knows if there's a time of day when Range 14 is more or less crowded than another. I'm just trying to plan what time to get to LVSC so it all coincides with getting to Range 14 at a good time. LVSC opens at 9:30, so if I get there at opening, I should be out of there and at Range 14 by 2-ish, I would think. Any answers you guys have would be awesome. Thanks.
  4. Bureaucracy isn't always the main problem. My initial FID had been ready for over a month and I still hadn't heard from the PD. It was only when I called them that they said "oh yeah, it's ready." Sometimes you have to be the catalyst.
  5. I'll keep watching it, just because I'll watch any show about guns, but Sons of Guns is better.
  6. I did a transfer there about two weeks ago. Nice people, and the price of 40 bucks including NICS is the best you'll find.
  7. Wow, that Mifflin Range looks awesome. About 3 and a half hours from me. But at such a cheap price it would be worth it even if you only go once a month or so.
  8. Awesome feedback guys. Thanks. The limited hours at Fort Dix is kind of a turn off. It sucks being in West Orange because anything worth driving to is mostly in South Jersey or into PA. I'll keep looking into it. Simply put, I'm looking for the best combo of distance and price. Hopefully I'll find a good combination. Sounds like Cherry Ridge might be it. What's the membership process like?
  9. Seems like a hell of a deal. Really cheap, no? Anyone know anything about Hutton Hill Rifle and Revolver Club? Price is steeper, but looks like they have a lot of cool facilities.
  10. I mean, I don't mind becoming a member of a place, provided that I like it and I see myself going back a few times. Does anyone know off the top of their head what the membership prices are for some of these places? I have no problem joining if it's not too steep.
  11. Hey guys. I know there's a thread on range locations and the like on this site, but I figured I would just ask a straight question. I just picked up a new Tikka T3 last week, and I'm itching to try it out. I hope to use it as a hunting rifle eventually, but for now, I just wanna get some range time with it. I think you can all understand that I'd rather shoot it outside than inside, and I'd like to find a place that has as long a range as possible, just so I can have the options of long shots available. So the real question is, do you guys know of any place in New Jersey (or a reasonable drive into PA or NY) that offers an outdoor range of more than 100 yards? Obviously I don't expect something like 1,000 yards, but it'd be nice if some place had AT LEAST 200 yards, if not more. Of course, another issue is that I am not a member at any particular place. The type of place I'm looking for would have to allow me to walk in from off the street. Any knowledge you guys have would be awesome. Thanks a lot.
  12. Thanks, fellas. You guys are right, there's absolutely no use for that circle. It just complicates things. I'm going with the 4-plex.
  13. Hey guys. So I own a couple of shotguns, but I'm going out to buy my first rifle next weekend. Most likely gonna be a Tikka T3 Lite in .270 Win Left-handed. I'm pumped, but that's not the point. I'm looking at a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40 scope to put on it, and the only question I have is what kind of reticle to get. The same model offers either a 4-plex or an accu-range. They're almost the same, but the accu-range has a circle in the middle of it. Below are some pictures of the two types. 4-plex: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=4-plex+reticle&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1280&bih=583&tbm=isch&tbnid=HO8Jdk1G1IGNXM:&imgrefurl=http://www.redfield.com/riflescopes/&docid=l-QXWLl93i7m7M&w=800&h=500&ei=CHV_TvDFKcPu0gGIjeEK&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=358&vpy=216&dur=642&hovh=177&hovw=284&tx=138&ty=80&page=1&tbnh=159&tbnw=218&start=0&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0 Accu-range: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=accu-range+reticle&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=wZu&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1280&bih=583&tbm=isch&tbnid=b-IGMk64Wvd8nM:&imgrefurl=http://www.precisionscopes.com/redfield_revolution_3-9x50mm_rifle_scope_accu-range_67105&docid=d2dq8XxLcGsQtM&w=800&h=500&ei=83R_Tt_7OavK0AHR280O&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=955&vpy=218&dur=257&hovh=177&hovw=284&tx=153&ty=101&page=1&tbnh=132&tbnw=211&start=0&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0 I'm just wondering if any of you guys have an opinion on if either one is better/easier to use, or if you just prefer one over the other. I like the classic look of the 4-plex, but I'm wondering if the circle on the accu-range would maybe offer an advantage? Any insight would be great. Thanks guys!
  14. I just picked up my initial FID today. Now the only thing I have to worry about is what to buy. Pretty good problem to have. But my question is about where I'm able to purchase a gun. As an example, I know there's a huge Cabela's store out in Pennsylvania, and I would consider going out there to have a look because I'm sure their selection is massive. Can anyone help me out in telling me if it's legal/illegal to use a NJ FID card to purchase a gun in another state?
  15. 1. Application type - Initial Firearms I.D. 2. Police Department where you applied - West Orange Police Department 3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD - Detective Lopez 4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit - 4 months 5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form) - Standard application form and mental health release form. 6. Notes - anything pertaining to the application process - FID card showed it was issued 2 months before I was made aware that it was ready, and that's only because I called to check on the status. It took me about 2 weeks just to get a hold of the detective.
  16. West Orange - Initial FID for myself and my father. Got fingerprinted on April 2, 2011, and just picked up the cards today. Just shy of 4 months. What's really sickening is that the cards say they were issued on June 2nd, which means they were sitting around for 2 months, and we only found out they were ready because we called and asked about them. And while we're on that subject, it took about 10 phone calls before I actually got to speak with the detective in charge. He was either on vacation, or out of the office, or off duty. But whatever. I'm happy it's all over now. If you're waiting for your FID and it's been almost 3 months or more, make sure you call your PD and check up on the status.
  17. Ah. Ok. Thanks, everyone. That makes much more sense than what I understood the law to be. Seemed way to easy to sidestep the system. Disregard my last comment. Haha.
  18. Ok, that makes sense. Do people ever try to sidestep the law by "giving" guns that they own to other people so they don't have to deal with the legal hassle/paperwork? What does it matter whose name the gun is under if someone else can still "borrow" it for the day and go shooting with it as often as they'd like? Again, I don't want anyone to think that I plan on doing this. I'm waiting for my FID like everyone else. Haha.
  19. Regarding the shooting range and clay course, you answered my question. Thanks. As soon as I have the gun in my possession, I am able to bring it to the range or the course and do as I please there without having to show any sort of paperwork once I am there. That is my interpretation of your answer. As far as the gift, this is only hypothetical. I don't plan on buying anyone any guns, but I was just curious... to try and clarify what I was saying, consider this hypothetical situation: I buy my father a shotgun for his birthday. He uses that shotgun for years, takes it to the range, shoots trap, shoots skeet, etc. So in reality, he doesn't even have a FID card, but because I used mine to buy it for him, he was able to enjoy the benefits of having a shotgun even though he didn't have to apply for a FID and buy it himself. This just seems kind of weird. So hypothetically, could I just try to get one of my friends who already has a FID to buy me a gun, and then do as I please with it? Seems like a way of beating the system..?
  20. Hi, I am currently awaiting my FID application to go through. Yes, I know this could potentially take forever. It's been about 35 days since I've been fingerprinted already, but I'm hoping I'll get lucky and it will be ready for pickup soon. (West Orange PD, for what it's worth) My question is... once I get the FID and go buy a gun (I'm interested in shotguns, not handguns, if this is relevant)... is there anything else I need to do in order to use the gun, i.e. take it to a shooting range or a sporting clays course? If not, then it seems to me that as long as I have the FID card, I can (in theory) buy anyone a shotgun as a gift and then they're free to use it as they please. Is this true? Just some clarification would be appreciated. Thanks.
  21. Anyone know anything about how long it might take to get an initial FID in West Orange?
