Pennsylvania - Laws are better than NJs
  1. Thank you all for the great advice!
  2. But if you remove it, wouldn't that leave a fairly noticeable hole right above the cylinder release?
  3. I'm in the market for a S&W revolver, and I'm trying to decide if I should go new (or newer) or pay the premium for an older model that was pre-internal lock. Are the internal locks on S&W really so bad that I should avoid them? I'm just looking for a reliable range gun and a third string self-defense piece (if i exhaust both clips for my Walther and 1911 and still haven't solved the problem). I'm also aware that this question could drag the MIM parts question into the mix. I have no position on the subject.
  4. Thanks for all the feedback so far. Lunker, my issue with the selected speaker was not the political party. I am a realist, I know an organization like this needs to work with both sides of the aisle. Not my issue at all. My issue was that this particular Democrat had written some bad legislation regarding CC permits, says our current guns laws are fine as is and endorsed Barbara Buono for governor, who is making gun control one of her big campaign issues. Like I said, I'm a rational guy, make my decisions after getting info. Now, if this event was a legislative update, or anything but a recruiting event, I'd be ok with it. But it was a recruiting event, which means it was designed to bring in and attract people by showing people what the NJ2AS is and stands for, or should have been designed that way. And if that is the sort of speaker they bring in for that, what am I supposed to think?
  5. Fellow 2Aers, Trying to get some feedback on the New Jersey Second Amendment Society. I know they're relatively new, so I was only able to glean a little bit from their back story. I ask because they just held a recruiting event in my neck of the woods, Cape May County. The fact they are expanding tells me something good about them. I did not go to the event, however, due to their choice in speaker for said event, which tells me something bad about them. When I emailed them and explained why I chose not to go, the President responded to the email, which tells me something good about them. I was less than satisfied with both the content and the tone of the email, however, which tells me something bad about them. While I have yet to fully pass judgement, right now I'm leaning toward staying away from them. Has anyone on the forum have any experience/contact with them, good or bad, which would give me more information on them? I'm a rational guy, like to get as many facts as possible before making a decision. Thanks!
  6. There's obviously been a lot of talk about the right to exercise the 2nd amendment lately, but not a lot of exercising of it. I became aware of this event, the Cape May County Young Republicans are holding an ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms) Day. I've done an ATF Day before, they are fun. A big group goes shooting first at a range, and usually arrange for instruction for newbies, then afterwards meet for dinner over drinks and cigars. It's a great way to celebrate the 2nd amendment and introduce people to it as well! http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07e6yuop0mfe5634b2&llr=qql9b6dab
  7. How much you wanna bet 2A friendly states are hoping CO passes the bill so they can get Magpul in their state?
  8. So a buddy of mine who also writes for Save Jersey wrote a good piece here. The gist of it is if Dems really believe they're gun laws will reduce crime, they should stand behind their belief and add a provision saying if violent crime doesn't go down by 20%, the bill automatically repeals. Otherwise, they're just hypocrites. Think the Dems are up to the challenge?
  9. Well, for those looking to teach Dems a lesson in November, the NJGOP has made no secret it finds the entire District 1 race, 1 Senate, 2 Assembly, the most likely to pick up seats in, the margin of victory for Assembly was 1,051 votes in 2011. With Frank Balles now on the ticket, the NJGOP sees the District 2 Senate seat as a likely pickup, as well. I am not commenting as to the accuracy of the NJGOP's assessment. I am merely pointing out to those who have given up in November there are AT LEAST 4 real good chances to send a message. AT LEAST.
  10. So the Assembly Democrats just railroaded through, on party lines, their "gun control" bills. 24 bills in one day, sure sounds like Dems gave the pro-2A folks who went to Trenton today to voice their opposition to this during public comment plenty of time. I don't know about you, but I'm going to remember this in November. The rest of you should, too. Cause there will be Dems who railed roaded this through and then will ask and need our support this November. They're not getting mine.
  11. "This legislation should be the first step in reforming our gun laws to more broadly protect an individual’s rights under the Second Amendment of the Constitution." There you go, first step, not last step.
  12. So a few weeks back in a thread about Jeff Van Drew I promised to find out where his Republican opponent, Dave DeWeese, stands on 2A issues. So I'm back with info, as promised. Word is he is a strong 2A guy, and his actions so far back that up. He is a friend to the Jersey sportsman. Below find the copied text of his response to a recent Jersey court ruling which refused to allowed retired prosecutors to carry. Republican legislative candidates in District One, David DeWeese for Senate; and Sam Fiocchi and Suzanne Walters for Assembly, in response to the Courts' refusal to allow retired prosecutors to carry firearms, recently issued the following statement: New Jersey's gun laws are already overly restrictive, and they run contrary to an individual’s right to keep and bear arms as protected by the Second Amendment to the Constitution. The Court’s ruling on May 16, 2011 to disallow permits for retired state and county prosecutors to carry firearms further undermines that right. These public servants have been appropriately trained to carry firearms and they have put themselves in harm's way by standing as a shield between the public and violent criminals. They should certainly be classified as “law enforcement officers”, and they should have the right to exercise their constitutional right to bear arms in order to protect themselves after they retire. We support expanding the law to specifically include these retired law enforcement officers' and protecting their right to carry firearms for self-defense. We are dealing with trained, good prosecutors who understand and enforce the laws for all of us. This legislation should be the first step in reforming our gun laws to more broadly protect an individual’s rights under the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Van Drew agrees with the ruling, while DeWeese sees reversing it as a "first step" to actually recognizing the 2nd Amendment in New Jersey.
  13. There was a problem with the original post, here is a new working link for the story http://savejersey.com/http:/savejersey.com/the-chinks-in-the-armor-why-van-drew-can-be-beaten/
  14. Hey, I'm the guy who wrote the Save Jersey piece that is referenced here. Since a lot of people are questioning/trying to find out where Van Drew and Deweese stand on 2A issues, let me let you know where I stand. I've been a gun owner since I was 21. I shoot pistols and a little skeet. And when I lived in San Francisco, I was the founder of an event called "Bay Area ATF Day", where we got folks from San Fran, San Jose and Oakland to come shoot in the morning, then have lunch with 2A friendly politicians while having drinks and stogies. So yeah, considering I threw a high profile shooting event in Nancy Pelosi's backyard, you guys know I take 2A issues seriously. Here is what I know about Van Drew. I have publically said that his CCW bill was nothing more than a ruse to try to get support from guys like us. He purposely, PURPOSELY, wrote a bill he knew niether party would vote for. Democrats oppose CCW and "shall issue" on general principle. But Van Drew needs the votes of guys like us in D1 to win, but he also needs Democratic dollars to win. So he asked party leaders "Hey, I know we don't support this, but I need to do something in this area to get re-elected. Can I write a bill whose main goal isn't passage but just to let me say 'Hey, I tried', and get me re-elected?" They said "There's a problem. We want you to get re-elected, but there is enough wind at the Republicans back right now that a CCW/"shall issue" bill might get passed if you introduce. So make it so bad, so anti its purpose that no Republican who is serious about 2A rights could vote for it." And that's what Van Drew did. That's why a so-called "2A supporter" wrote a bill that created an almost impossible to reach criteria for "shall issue". Go back and check it out, its probably easier to get into Harvard than pass that test. I GUARENTEE you Van Drew couldn't (without calling favors). That's also why he increased the application fee by 4,600%. He knew no real 2A supporter could behind that piece of junk. He wrote legislation just that so he could tell people on this forum "Hey, I tried, see I'm one of you, vote for me" without actually being one. That's all. It's an insult to all of us. As for DeWeese, I do not know his stances yet.
