  1. I either carry the Leek http://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-1660-Leek/dp/B001D4RMI0/ref=sr_1_7?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1318464203&sr=1-7 or the Eskabar (fits in the pocket just like a folder) http://www.amazon.com/Ka-Bar-BK14-Becker-Knife-Eskabar/dp/B004CIQY6K I'm really liking the Eskabar in the factory sheath in my pocket, just like a pocket holster or a folder. The Leek is a good slicer because it's so thin, but I wouldn't use it for heavy work. These are both reasonably priced.
  2. Yeah, I'm not going to bring anything into the state. It's just kinda ridiculous. I didn't realize y'all were being held hostage so bad up here. I feel for you that much more now. I'm just having a hard time adjusting to not carrying something on my person at all times. It just feels weird.
  3. Uncle Ted agrees! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_QjEL0uUgo
  4. I appreciate the advice. I have a dozen or so decent pocket knives, but was worried those could get me in trouble as well. Unfortunately my hotel is not a long term lease. My schedule changes all the time so I play it by ear each week. I don't mind jumping through hoops because I hate admitting failure to "the man," but this is pretty difficult. I'm working in Princeton so I may just stay in Mossisville, PA and just drive the 15 miles each way. Not a big deal, my house is 30miles from the office back home. That way I can at least carry when I'm not at work and just bring a pocket knife with me to NJ. There's a range about 8 min away from Morrisville too, Ready-Aim-Fire. I really wanted to make it work in Princeton, but it just seems near impossible for someone short term.
  5. I'm travelling to NJ for a few days (Tue-Thur) each week for work (on and off from now through the Spring). I always research when I'm going to a new state, but usually end up having reciprocity so don't worry about it. I've looked through the NJ laws and came up with this. Am I missing anything or wrong on anything that's obvious? 1) Bringing handguns and carrying on my Texas CHL is a no go, unless I'm joining the mafia 2) Bringing handguns at all is pretty much a no go. 3) Bringing handgun hollowpoint ammo is pretty much a no go. 4) Bringing a 870 pump action is OK, as long as it's factory with no Knoxx stocks, etc.. 5) Bringing shotgun ammo is OK, and I can't buy it here without a FID card 6) Transporting an 870 and ammo from the airport to the hotel is OK, as long as it's separate and locked in the trunk. 7) I can load up my 870 and leave it in the hotel, but can't take it anywhere (ie can't leave in the car at work location). 8) No BB guns either (Is this factual? I question this since I read it on the web.) I just want to make sure I understand the rules.
  6. Because driving is a privilege and owning/carrying arms is a right specifically mentioned in the Bill of Rights. (according to existing law) The rights to life and liberty are inalienable, God given. No government can morally remove the right to defend yourself. Our Constitution doesn't give us these rights, it just seeks to protect them from the government.
  7. It's a new law which IS a new regulation. It's also redundant because of the 14th amendment. The 2nd amendment already exists, we don't need additional laws. What we need is rule of law and enforcement of the laws we already have and (gasp) enforcement of the Constitution. If they can pass this "common sense" regulation they can pass tack on requirements. New laws are nothing more than new opportunities for corruption and power grabbing. We should be seeking to repeal laws not add new ones (ie NFA, machine gun junk from '86, etc.). "Common sense" = "Gun Control" = Violation of the Constitution
  8. I asked my Congressmen to vote against this bill. The Fed Gov has no business nor Constitutional authority to regulate anything related to firearms. That's up to the states. Besides, there's already two Constitutional amendments that say exactly this and are ignored daily. The 2nd amendment says "shall not be infringed" and then they shove the 14th amendment down our throats in the Southern states (illegally) but turn around and ignore it completely when it comes to exercising it. Ridiculous. What makes you think a regulation will fix reciprocity and not grant more undue power to the Fed? It's a pipe dream and WILL be just one more law they corrupt and use against us in DC. This law is a bad idea.
  9. Happens pretty often down here. Stories fairly regularly. In fact, a few years back someone shot a burglar he saw in his neighbor's house at night, with a rifle as they were leaving with his neighbor's stuff. Guess what, no indictment. The Black Panthers tried to protest down the street and got run out by a bunch of neighborhood people with guns who outnumbered them. Down here you can legally shoot people for the following (Section 9.32 of Texas Penal code, summarized): to protect yourself or someone else from... - aggravated kidnapping, - murder, - aggravated robbery, - robbery, - aggravated sexual assault - sexual assault to protect your property from... - aggravated robbery, - arson, - burglary, - criminal mischief during the night or - theft at night. Deadly force may also be used to prevent the person who has committed the criminal act from fleeing with the property. Additionally, if it's a clean shoot the victim can not recover any damages in civil court. They reap what they sow. It's not all good though. We are one of the only states that dont allow open carry of handguns, and there's still no carry on campus. We're working on it though. We're also rooting for y'all to get real CCW!
  10. I think my cul-de-sac alone could. All joking aside I do feel for you guys. Here's some clips from a local machine gun shoot in Leona (even has a mini-gun 9 minutes in)... It makes me smile every time I watch it.
  11. Yep. I hear nothing but good things about the MAG40 classes Mas offers too, even from people who have been shooting and carrying for decades. On the main topic it's the property owners perogative. But I'd definitely talk to them about it and give them your opinion as well.
  12. You can bet it's not ever going to be to your benefit in any court case. There's too many Monday morning quarterback questions that can be asked about your ability. Also, a clip of you joking around or "blasting some zombie" at the range won't shine a great light when it's out of context. The tape is purely CYA for the range though, IMO. That said, maybe they only retain them for a certain period of time if there's no incident that day. I'd talk to them and ask. I don't like public ranges as it is. I definitely wouldn't go to one with a camera unless they dumped the tapes pretty often. Edit: It would be completely different if it was just a log book of when you came vs actual footage.
  13. Hi guys and girls! I'm working on a project off up here through the spring (off and on), so I'll be spending Tue-Thur here in Princeton most weeks. Luckily I did a little research before I showed up with a couple pistols day one. I knew NJ has a limited concealed carry program, but didn't realize they don't recognize any other states' licenses. As in Texas recognizes New Jersey permits but not vice-versa. I usually just check 'em in my luggage and load up on the other side in the baggage claim bathroom. Anyway, I feel a little naked but I'll make due I guess. I've been shooting since I was about 6 yrs old so it's a completely new environment to me up here and a I'm a little "gun shy" (pun intended, lol). I'm trying to figure out what I can bring with me each week, at least to the hotel. I'm kinda paranoid after hearing someone got a felony just for carrying a pocket knife. I have a couple of newbie NJ questions: 1) What's a good quick source to understand what travelers can bring? transport? 2) Are there any ranges I can rent something to shoot on a week night if I'm bored? (Princeton area, or within reasonable distance) Y'all have a beautiful state, hoping you get some more decisions to go your way on the arms front!
