  1. I have the previous version but this looks to be a slight improvement over the old version as I have, after poking around this one looks to be the best one with the BHO, If I had it to do over I'd go with the one from Defensive Arms, pricey but looks to be the best IMO
  2. You would be correct, I did say that. Keep in mind after the AZ movie tragedy CC could have played politics just like the DEMs but when asked about additional gun control he made the said statement described above which was there are enough laws on the books. So from my view (me not being a big CC fan) his stock went up in my book but obviously that did nothing for you. Now on the other hand the DEM’s mantra is "never let a good tragedy go to waste" which is why we are having this discussion. That is right out of the WhiteHouse's Playbook by Rahm Emanuel
  3. Dude, I'm on your side. My point was that he (CC) is now the golden boy his posture is now the same as Mitt’s which is there is enough laws on the books. You aren’t telling me anything, I was in Trenton during the AWB-1 protest, so had that not passed Dow & crew would have been a moot point. Since the original AWB is in place this is only a natural progression. Seriously, I hope you didn't think they were done? I said it here and I will say it again my favorite radio person (now deceased) "Irv" Homer use to say it ALL the time, “once the elephant gets his nose under the tent before you know it the whole thing is inside”. That is exactly what we have here. If I had it my way none of those laws would have been pasted but I’m just some taxpaying stiff. If you don’t like CC you are going to love Governor Booker...
  4. Just to clarify you mean he wouldn’t sign, correct? That’s Mitt’s position because during the Republican primary debates because when asked about the restrictive gun laws in Mass that was Mitt’s answer so now CC has to do the same. CC wasn’t the Republican golden boy when he was running for Assembly when he endorsed the AWB, now he needs to give the perception that he is a real Republican and not a RINO. You could look at it two ways, he hasn't helped us but more importantly he hasn't hurt us either....
  5. NJ Politicians are a joke, especially the DEM sponsors of this bill. Again, we aren’t the problem but these Yuppie Politicians will continue to drive into Trenton in their high-end cars with vanity plates wearing nice suits and create pointless legislation. Why stop at 10rd mags, why not just go for a total ban on all firearms. below are a few of my favorite NJ Politicians that always worked for the best interest of NJ. One Gun a month Joe Honest Wayne, AWB 1.0 Party Loyalist Neil Cohen
  6. AWB 2.0, same as the first time when everyone said it would never happen...

I gave Wolf a call and asked for their take and obviously the Rep said it should be fine. He suggested breaking-in new Sport rifle in with about 200 rds w/brass before switching to Wolf. He said the reason the steel case is dirtier than brass is because the steel case ammo doesn’t expand like the brass. When the Steel case ammo is fired it allows blow-by because of its inability to expand and seal like brass. For those that have already researched this probably nothing new here…so up to now still feeling pretty good about the Russian ammo, but not for long.... I’d commented earlier that my SU16(s) didn’t have any issues with any of the Russian ammo, in fact that is all I shoot out of them and I've put many rds thru both my SU16's. Long story short, I damaged one of my SU16’s foregrip and sent it in for repair. I received it back today and on the repair slip (standard form letter) it says; ***Steel, polymer and aluminum cased ammunitions are NOT recommended*** , I went on the KelTec forum to see what they say, in their FAQ it is the item, they say Laquer or polymer-coated steel-cased ammo (such as Wolf) should not be shot together *with brass-cased ammo, and the chamber should be thoroughly cleaned after shooting any laquer or polymer-coated steel-cased ammo so the great ammo debate still continues for me. I’m going to keep running the Russian in the SU16's but may just stick with brass for the Mini’s and new Sport. Finally I’m really starting to like the AR platform with my little M&P 15 Sport. I’ve spent some time looking at the self builds over in the NJGF AR section and ALL are very impressive so it got me to thinking maybe I will go ahead and build one. From a mechanical standpoint I think I could do it w/o too much difficulty. When I get a better handle on the configuration I’d like to go it I will post a proposed parts list and ask for direction from you guys. In the meantime while poking around for AR parts yesterday found yet another ammo warning here http://www.dsarms.com/ammowarn.asp ,, another strike for Russian ammo

The trigger is now upgraded, installed the Geissele Super Semi Automatic Trigger (SSA), only shot it with stock so looking forward to next time out to test trigger upgrade. the post is not restricted the ammo, I'm new to the AR so I'll listen to any advise or input on the system. As far as the ammo will stick to brass for now but may contact Wolf next and see what they say since S&W doesn't thing it is a good idea. That's not good to hear that there CS sucks, about 2 years ago I sent a used revolver back for trigger work and they took care of it fairly quick and I'm not the original owner. You got my number, I had shotgun news open tonight looking at parts entertaining the thought of doing a build this winter.I checked out a few youtube videos and the lower looks pretty easy but I still would have some questions.I think my own build could be next, a little more research and then I give it a shot. As I mentioned above for now will stick with the brass but will re-visit the Russian ammo again, will contact wolf and see what they say. I've shot hundred of rounds of Russian with my Kel-Tec and no issues whatsoever so if the SU16 could shoot Russian you would think the M&P 15 should be OK with it...
  9. New AR platform and M&P 15 Sport user here. In fact just I purchased rifle on 9/28, ordered the Geissele SSA trigger on 10/4 and shot rifle for first time with stock trigger on 10/5. My new SSA trigger came yesterday and installed it last night in less than 15 minutes. The stock trigger was OK but after some controlled testing with the new SSA I think I picked a winner. I’m very much looking forward to the next time out. I looked though all the other Geissele models and the SSA looks to be their “flagship model” and logical selection for me. Out of 44 (current) reviews on Midway the three less than perfect reviews were two 4 stars ratings and one 3 star by someone claiming the instructions were hard to understand and needed a Gunsmith to install his. I like the way each component of the trigger has its own sn# and also nice that is constructed in nearby PA. Vladtepes, thanks for the recommendation over on my M&P 15 post.

I found this post about Steel cased ammo, looking at those images I’ll be sticking with brass for my Sport. I took the Sport out Friday for the maiden voyage and I'm very pleased with it. Looking back I should have picked one up sooner. I’ve replaced the front sight with the XS 24/7 Front Sight Post. As per vladtepes I looked over on the Geissele site and went with the Geissele Super Semi Automatic Trigger (SSA). After viewing the other models I think that would be best for me. after the trigger is installed I'll be done

S&W replied back to my email ammo question. My question was "I just purchased the (NJ Complaint) Model M&P15 Sport Rifle on sn# xxxxxxx and have a question. Could this rifle run the cheaper Russian ammo like Wolf, Silver Bear or Tula? Please advise". Their reply was the following, “As long as the caliber is correct although we do not recommend this ammo. Thank You” that was it. I followed up with a phone call and the Rep said the Russian ammo could damage the extractor so no Russian ammo for my M&P15 Sport. It would have been a nice option but not a big deal since I never ran it in the Mini14 either. I found the Geissele YouTube vid for the Geissele Super Semi-Automatic (SSA), nice find. The vid goes into great detail about the install so now that I’ve seen it, you’re correct it looks very easy to upgrade. Definitely going to upgrade the trigger but I want to shoot it stock first to be able to do a comparison and above all make sure everything else is in working condition. Thank you ALL for the replies, now I just have to shoot it......

I don't think that came out right... I understand and trust me I’m not to be a hard-on. You’re the last person I want to T-off because who’s going to help me over in Saiga land, LOL. You may remember you helped me out with the S223 thru the S308. Again this is not aimed at you but in my view NO one in NJ could build want they really want, all we get in NJ are compliance firearms. However go over to PA where common sense prevails and you can build (or buy) what you really want, enough said... As much as I enjoy working on my current long guns and pistols I didn’t want to attempt to build one as a new user. It would have been a Rube Goldberg job that’s why I went this route. If I really like the Sport after learning the system then perhaps I’ll try a NJ build as a future project. As of now you have sparked my interest in the trigger upgrade, I’d be very much interested in that if you think I could do it as a DIY job. Again no knowledge with the AR at all but I’m very confident working on Saiga stuff. I know this is apples and oranges but my last trigger job was upgrading the single hook to double hook. Prior to that I did my SU16 trigger as per so there you have it, that’s my trigger job background. So if you have specific links or YouTube vids for a Sport trigger job please post at your leisure, it would be greatly appreciated. Again the first task will be front sight upgrade. And yes if/when I hear back from S&W on the ammo I will share their reply but I'm guessing it will mirror what has been stated here. Again thanks for ALL your help.

I’m sure your custom build beats the snot of this one however for me this is an excellent gateway rifle to enter into AR world. Hell, I’d like to have a custom build chambered in 6.8 MM with a Ruger SR556 and HK416 for backups but I had to start somewhere and honestly this may all I’ll even need. I’ve had good luck with S&W handguns so I expect no less from this so unless there is a total meltdown at the range next week. I will check the trigger as you suggested but the first order of business will be something like the XS SightSystem like I have on my S233. I recently installed the 24/7 XS Tritium replacement front site on my Saiga after upgrading to the KREBS peep sight suggested the several months back for my S223 by a fellow NJGF member. Both work nicely together for my 50+ year old eyeballs. As far as the ammo I shot of an email to off to S&W to see what they say. I’ll assume they will respond during normal business hours next week however if I get out prior to their response I’ll just go with some PMC, M193 or M885 or whatever I have in brass to play it safe….I think the Sport should serve me well I will keep that in mind if I ever want to trade-up for something going forward. Nice, I’m going to stick with the iron sights for now however I would like to upgrade them with something from XS SightSystem since I like what they did for my S223. Not sure what I will replace them with but at the very least the front post has to go....

@ Old School -Thanks to the NJGF I have the Saiga 223 as well and the SU16 before signing up here. As you know the S233 could care less and the SU16 will eat anything as well. Now with my Mini (down to one now) I’m guessing the same story as the AR platform, steel case may not be a good idea. OT but I think I remember seeing something like it could ruin the firing pin and/or extractor in the Mini. Yep should change that screen name, How about M&P 15 Sport Novice, LOL. @ Rifleman1- yes the M&P 15 Sport, again new to AR platform but this is going to should silly but I didn’t want to get in over my head with something too complicated. I was looking at the Ruger SR556 but too much money then I was thinking about building my own but after losing a #8-32 x 3/16’’ last week for my Saiga site I couldn’t see me trying to put one together, that would be the entire project me looking for dropped or misplaced parts… I will check out that forum since I am already looking to upgrade sites @ cguiro - I’m guess I'm looking to save a buck, you know how that goes. IMO I don’t really see the Silver Bear or Wolf being that dirty but then again you may shoot 5 times more than I do on trip to the range. If I shoot 100 ~ 120 round on a day out that’s a big day @ dtown223- will look into it further, maybe during the week I'll reach out to S&W and see what they say if I can't reach them by email. I'd like to get their thoughts on the matter.

Thank you, I've been going back and fourth on the AR platform for a while. Just got it so haven't shot it yet but I have to say I really like the feel and balance of it. I think it is going to be allot of fun and hold up well. I have a few S&W handguns and never had any issues so that's another reason I went for it I'll see what pops here, if needed I'll give S&W a call and see what they say. I'd like to be able to shoot the Wolf and Bear stuff but if not I'll deal with it.

    M&P 15

so today I bought my first AR platform. I’d wanted another long gun this fall and had been looking at range of rifles but finally did the AR platform. Last year I was thinking about trying to build an AR but having never had one I know this was the best route for me. I liked what I seen on the M&P 15 reviews so good enough for me right out of the box. I traded one of my Mini14’s for it and took a beating on the trade but it is what it is. I’m sure it’s been covered before but I figure I’ll ask again to get the latest. How do these guys do with Wolf and other Russian ammo, or is it best to stick with brass? TIA

    Sa vz. 58

    no,they aren’t an AK variant
  18. I'm no expert and wasn't sure if legal or not so I posted a similar question a few months back. One of the senior members replied back and said "bolt-on" was in fact NJ compliant. I have this one on my 308, it was pricy but it works nicely and I like it.

    Sa vz. 58

Does anyone have a NJ neutered Sa vz. 58 Sporter, looks like there is a CA complaint model so just wondering if there are NJ compliance issues? I've been thinking about buying ONE more carbine in the fall/winter and had been looking at the (restricted state) Ruger SR556 to take the AR plunge until I stumbled on these. Any thoughts on the Sa vz 58? Thanks in advance
  20. I seen this link over in the S12 forum. As usual more BS politics involved but the bottom line is the company looks to be back on track again.....
  21. did you see this one - CC says NJ has enough Gun Laws they may be hope yet..........
  22. @ vladtepes – thanks I’ll give it a shot….. @ vtecpaoche- I’m going to dig mine out later tonight and bend in it. Only bend it slightly, you don’t want to overdo it otherwise it will defeat the purpose. You only want enough of kink in there to have the spring want to be pulling in the outward direction along with the vertical tension. I assume the lateral leaning now is null or inward, so there is the problem. The attraction of using the factory spring is the two winding so the theory is if one busts it should still function, but that does me no good if it continues to drop off. It will probably be at least two weeks before I get out again to test but I'll bend it tonight .
  23. Was it your Safety side? I was looking at the JTE springs on the CSS site. I may give that a try along with the double hook trigger because in its current configuration there is no way this rifle could be considered dependably.
  24. I went to the range today and had the same issue as our fellow member on Saiga 7.62x39/Post 143 . At first I thought I had some bad ammo but then after not seeing any strikes on the primer I lifted the dust cover and found the same problem in post above. This wasn’t the maiden voyage for my 7.62, I’ve had the 7.62 a few months and shot it several times juggling range time between this and my S-223. So the question is how to we prevent this going forward, use an aftermarket spring or something else? Since the spring walked on the Safety side as with our fellow member is this where it always occurs? Has anyone ever seen it happen on the opposite side? I'm thinking replace the single hook trigger with a double hook trigger and dremel-out the hole for the Safety side hook. The way it looks to me in the posted image if the double hook was in place that leg couldn’t have crossed-over because the second hook would have prevented it from crossing over. So does moving to the double hook look like a viable solution or try something else? Comments or suggestions, thanks in advance.
