  1. I just picked up a box of the American Eagle 357s. In that instance, would a quick clean after shooting 38s before switching to 357s resolve this?
  2. I stopped by Walt today also. He has a pretty nice selection with a pretty huge crowd there. Too bad it is such a long drive for me to get there but his prices are pretty fair.
  3. Thanks, I was looking for a cleaning kit. I just ordered it today.
  4. Thanks for the info. This was very helpful. It is just setting up an appointment to meet with the detective is tough as I usually need to get into the office early and get home late. The detective usually comes in pretty early himself but I still wind up late for work to meet with him. I'm not necessarily looking to buy every handgun out there but I'd like to have one or two handy. I think I'll follow BRaptor's advice and get 2 every six months and then get an extension if I do not use it. The permits are terribly expensive at $2 each. I will also confirm the policy on extensions with the detective when I meet him on Friday. Just out of curiosity, how do you apply for an exemption? It looks like you need to prove that you are a collector, a licensed firearms dealer or sportsman (or sportswoman).
  5. So I see that some people request for 4+ handgun permits. Why apply for more than 3 if you can only buy 1 every 30 days and the permits only last 90 days? Is it easier to apply for a permit extension? The process in my town seems to require quite a few forms including a Request for Criminal History Record Information and a Mental Health Records Search on top of the standard Handgun Purchase Permit form. I have to pay an additional for the Criminal History Record check with every permit request. I did the Crimnal History Record and Mental Health Record about 4 months ago. I notice that quite a few of you are collectors (or buying a new toy every 30 days). Do you guys just keep submitting new requests every 90 days? Would it be better to apply for 6 permits and renew them after 90 days if you plan on buying one a month? I doubt I would really buy that many but there are at least 4-5 that I want. If I can find a good deal on something gently used, I would immediately get it but would need a permit handy.

    Taurus 1911

My next gun will be a 1911. I went to a few stores to see if they carry the Taurus but most of the dealers say that it is crap and they do not stock them. Let me know if you find a store that actually carries it.
  7. That's nice. I want one!
  8. Thanks. I'll put in the application but will give my references a heads up so that they know. Let us know how the request for 4 works.
  9. 1. Application type: FID w/ 1 permit 2. Police Department where you applied: Union Township 3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD: Det Baird 4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit: about 51 days (I did not chase at all and I had to wait 3 weeks to schedule a date to get fingerprinted by MorphoTrak) 5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form): Criminal History Record Information form and Signed Purchase Restriction (1 handgun per person/month). All of this conveniently located in the Union Township website. 6. Notes - anything pertaining to the application process: The Detective was really helpful. He even accommodated my schedule to come in early for me to get fingerprinted as I start work very early and end the day very late. He called home and told my wife when I could pick up the permits. I now want to get additional permits but this seems to be a pain in the arse if they need to contact my references each time I would like to get additional permits. I had no clue that you would not be able to have just 1 handgun. I was thinking of just getting a permits every three months (or extending an existing one) so I have them just in case I find a great deal.
  10. I recently applied for a ID card with only 1 permit in the application and only recently used it to purchase a Glock 22. I had no idea buying one would quickly lead to wanting to buy more. I was thinking about submitting another form to request for additional permits (perhaps 3 this time). Do they reach out to the contacts again? My buddies just filled out a form like 3 months ago and I would hate to trouble them again to fill out another form. Do they really reach out to them every time you apply for more permits?
