I've run cocktail mags of 115, 124, and 147gr factory ammo and to be frank, while there was maaaaaaybe some variation, it was not enough to make a big enough difference to me. Grip technique will matter far far more. I just use what I can get my hands on for cheap.

Therefore, if it is threaded to accept a blast shield, you are back to having a threaded barrel. I believe the statute has wording to the effect that if it is threaded to accept a flash hider, it is illegal. The blast shield you are proposing to use could easily be construed to be a flash hider - even though that was not the intent.
I'd err on the side of caution - stick with a brake alone. If you want one that is "friendly" to those around you, look for one that has forward angled ports.

Adios,

There are some blast shields or concussion mitigating attachments which do not use threads to attach. The VG6 CAGE comes to mind. I've always viewed them as kosher, but I, like you, am not a lawyer.

Ken did a great job making that match work outside. Everyone seemed genuinely happy just to be there and it made the whole experience that much better. Hopefully this marks a steady return to normality.

Got the 929 back! Nice!

I wish I could retain a fraction of what you know about these things. Excellent as always and thanks for sharing.

FYI this just looks like a basic BCG with standard coatings. This isn't the one with the nano-weapon coating as far as I can tell.
I'm sure it's a good BCG, but it seems overpriced for what it is.

Dumping this link for me to update to the OP. Really demonstrates how the AR platform is in common use:

Hard pass. There's a bunch of decent options in the $100-200 range that would be worth saving for over this.

You get a fancy coin and case.
Also some modularity and an optic cut.

Where haven't we shot a match at this point? LOL

I hate Glock, will never ever own one. It's like buying a Yugo for fuel efficiency and a low payment.....lol
I wouldn't have such a hard line with the plastic guns. They have a lot to offer from a "shootability" perspective. They're also stupid reliable.

I am a big fan of all metal guns and why I love 1911s and my CZs. The Q5 SF match just felt like an overweight pig, particularly during transitions... they took a gun designed to be a polymer gun and made it into a steel frame...
So I really like the Q5... just not the Q5 SF... but there will be plenty who want to buy the Q5 SF just because it is not a CZ. =)
The Q5 SF just did not seem balanced well, by that I mean shooting balance between enough weight to reduce muzzle climb and being light enough to transition from target to target.
And of course the price... great value for $1,000.... $1,500 is more difficult to justify and there are other better options out there at that price point.
So here's a question I'll throw out there to which I'm not sure there's a right answer: Do metal guns really shoot better than plastic guns?
I'm not very experienced with all metal guns, but I've seen plenty of people come to IDPA/USPSA matches with their Beretta 92s or Sig P226s, and eventually they end up with some flavor of Glock (or a knock-off).
I understand the appeal of an all metal gun, but from where I sit the benefits seem largely exaggerated. Especially when shooting 9mm.

3 minutes ago, Maksim said:I am really liking the Beretta M9A3... the Walther Q5 SF match... eh. Was way too heavy. And it is still not as good as a CZ SP01, especially a custom shop model at that price point.
But seriously... 1911.
In the end it depends on what OP's intended use it. I'm no collector and plan to shoot every gun I buy. The Q5 SF was engineered to be heavy. I haven't shot one, though. I'll have to take your word for it.
If I were to get a 1911, I'd look at the Dan Wesson Specialist or Valor.

I always try to have a glock in the line up! Lol. If they only would make a metal one like Walter is doing with Walter ppq, it would sell like crazy!
Glocks are great at what they do, but don't discount Walther. The PPQ is newer, but I find the ergonomics way better. I have about 12K rounds through my PPQ M1 and have nothing but praise for it.

Walther PPQ Q5 SF. If only so I can live vicariously through you.
Also Beretta 92X:
Also CZ Shadow 2, P226 Legion SAO.
Or a 1911 if those damn kids won't get off your lawn...

Can't build it? I'm out...
EDIT: Can I buy a lower and slap my own upper on it?

You can get into the pistol RDS game for under $800. It's not really that expensive now.

You are not missing anything. People have been doing this since pistol braces were a thing. It's only newish to NJ as a result of the Shockwave ruling from the NJSP, which creates an inference that these would be kosher, too.

Correct, it's sized 1 slot smaller than the adjustment channel. So you cut it where you want, install each end of the insert into the far ends of the channel, then slide the stock over until it engages the only exposed slot.

Only $6 too

I'm gonna risk going the factory optics ready route. Not sure if I want to married to one optic just yet.

Adios,

There's nothing more relieving than tanking the first stage of the day.

Everyone's names/scores posted online that I've seen, that optional?
I'm sure you could give a pseudonym if you wanted, but the scoring is integral to the match. It determines shooting order and displays shooter information like division and classification.

I used a Bladetech holster for years and it served its purpose well.
You can also use a Safariland 579 Pro-Fit if you're looking for a universal gun bucket. It's a littler slower and I don't care for the slight forward cant, but it's not going to make or break a stage for me. The positive retention is also nice for the peace of mind, especially if you want to do 3-gun where you'll be doing more sprinting. I currently use one for my CZ P10F and have confirmed it fits the PPQ M1.
There are a ton of good holsters available now that the PPQ is pretty mainstream. Anything from a reputable kydex holster manufacturer should serve you well. For IDPA I'd stick to OWB holsters, just avoid anything with a drop or offset as the gun needs to be within a dowel rod of your body.
Also, Stu - I can be available to help if you need it. Just let me know.
