  1. Well that explains the mismatch looks. Thanks for the info
  2. Yeah, that's most of the reason for my post. Make no modes to your Mil-Surplus that can't be reversed & save your original parts. ...It's an M44 laminate (has proper bayonet cut) but I don't think the top hand guard is a match
  3. Yes, bent bolt nice but I don't mind a straight one. Maganaport claims 40% reduction, don't know how true but perceived recoil feels way less that my other Mosins
  4. When I was younger and dumber and Mosin Nagants were really cheap I decided to sporterize one. And used a primo M44 of all things for my starting point. I cut off the bayonet and ground down the mount, cut top of sight hood off, removed rear sight and sent out bolt to be bent & welded so I could mount a scope. I even had Magnaport put on a muzzle brake. Lastly everything went into one of those stupid black polymer Monte Carlo stocks. Well, the stock never fit well no matter how many times I shimmed it, none of the three scope mount systems I used were worth a chit. And the original stock and rear sight were long gone. So I scored a M44 stock on Gun Broker & trashed all the after-market gunk. Except for a Mojo peep sight (works very well) The Magnaport muzzle brake (works as advertised) & the bent bolt still looks cool. No it will never be an M44 again but I learned a lot and at least managed salvage a neat carbine out of the ordeal.
  5. The new Taurus Company... Personally I do not own any Taurus products except for a Rossi Circuit Judge. Any way I thought it was interesting.
  6. Natchez will ship up to 50lbs of hazmat for one fee of $27.50. Just received 2 pounds of powder and 1000 primers in same box today.
  7. Mags came today. Very pleased. Thanks
  8. It's worth maybe half the starting bid price at best. And that's only if you are in love with it and got to have it.

    New 1911

500 Round Report Most important thing is ZERO malfunctions. Factory Act magazine and the two additional Act magazines I got from CDNN work perfectly. I added a Hogue grip and filed down the front sight a little. I may at some point send the slide out to Novak for better sights but have had no problem adjusting to the factory military setup. Just for giggles I ran 50 rounds of unknown weight flat point reloads that someone gave me years ago. Ate them all I guess the next test will be to see how long the recoil and main spring last before needing replacement. For now though all I can say it that I love this gun. So much so that on my next round of permits I think I will get another one but in 38 Super.
  10. Thanks to all for the input. Only reason I disassembled was because RIA’s have a rep. for leaving factory very dirty plus it was relatively easy. And it’s my 1st 1911 Read in a few places that they don’t like to run dirty. Will stick to my usual routine now. Snake barrel and clean feed ramp after each outing and field strip, good cleaning and oil every 500 rounds
  11. I load 45's, 38's & 357. I use Unique for 38's, Power Pistol for 38+P and 357. Bullseye for 45's Very popular powders and readily available everywhere. You can if you want use any one of these powders to load all three calibers with Unique being the most versatile
  12. Cool, another South Jersey person
  13. Greetings from Mullica Township
  14. OK, after putting 500 rounds thru my new 1911 I did a complete disassembly cleaned every single part, oiled it and reassembled. Was not too hard, followed instructions on DVD that came with gun. My question is at what round count this should be done in the future. Or will just field stripping suffice from here on out?

    Taurus Fans?

Take a look at Ruger GP100 new or used you can't go wrong. Same goes for S&W. I like the Taurus's but just too much negative feedback. Not worth the risk, for me anyway.
  17. Never sell a gun that you like.
  18. Like the green. Bought my first Glock about a month ago Gen4 model 17. Love it.
  19. Thanks to all, much appreciated. You saved me a trip.
  20. Anyone been there. If so what was your impression. :polling:

Update, range report... Gun condition, out of the box just wiped off excess oil. Ammo, 100 rounds of reloads with 230gr cooper plated ball, 5grs. Bullseye. Target distance 10yrds. Instructions with gun clearly state that it’s built to tight tolerances and may take 500 rounds to break in. And that it will work best with 230 gr. Ball ammo. Feed and ejection ZERO malfunctions. Factory magazine, ZERO malfunctions. 2 Chip McCormick magazines. At first they were disengaging in mag well but after about 60 rounds they were fine. May be break-in issue or operator error. Tiny military sights shoot low but windage is fine. For what it’s worth it’s not uncommon for these guns to shoot low with the basic sights. Trigger, well it seems nice to me but to be honest I would not know a good 1911 trigger from a bad one. Bottom line, I love it. Nothing else feels & shoots like a 1911. Can live with sights for now, easy enough to upgrade when I’m ready. Will update as I put more ammo through it.
