I was at both SS and BA recently as a complete newbie. Both have great guys on staff. BA guys explained basics, SS guys confirmed I got BA lesson right. BA had no RO on a range, some people were shooting fast with some big and extremely loud guns there. Even having no experience I spotted some other visitor who did not handle his rifle(?) in secure way. I preferred security of SS with one RO on a floor and another behind glass wall. RO did not just sit but actively watched what was happening and corrected some visitors.

Applied today for FPID. Painless process and friendly staff in Old Bridge but $57 for fingerprints??? Insane...

Thank you. Yes, Michael, I was born in Ukraine. I know about OBRPC, it is nearby. It seems like you have to be quite committed to join them. And there are no rental guns there. I figured if I stick around I will join them in a year or so.

What a great and active forum! Found some useful advice here. I am a newbie, never shot anything in my life. I was looking for things to do inside this long winter and went with friends to a Brick Armory shooting range, just to make some loud noise As result I thought it can be a great and (hopefully not-)useful hobby. Went a couple more times to ShoreShot, and signed up for a membership there. I do not have any guns yet, so I rent and do target shooting. Applying for FPID next week.
