  1. Thanks for the tips - I ordered a few 10 rounders from Midway. This should get me started (now to order my bullet guide so I can actually use the mags) Unless I'm missing something, it looks like the ASC mags are for the AR and not the AK. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I might be wrong but my understanding was that Krebs permanently welds the flash hider on the barrel to bring it back to 16" after they chop it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I went ahead and placed an order tonight for an unconverted Saiga 5.45x39. It should be at my FFL by mid-week next week.
  4. The more I think about this, the more I want to pick up an Saiga 5.45 and do another conversion. I'm not totally crazy about adding another caliber of ammunition to the pile but I think that this will give me the widest range of options in terms of a project. Does anyone have any other suggestions in terms of a project gun?
  5. This is just one more reason why I'm looking to make a move across the river to PA...
  6. That's a good point that I've heard before - I believe that the Palmetto State Armory AK is a no-go for similar reasons (I think their stamping is something along the lines of "PSAK47" which is close enough for me not to chance it). I haven't been able to find any online images of the DDI receiver stampings to see if it includes "AK47". I've actually already got a C39v2 and it's a good gun - I've just noticed that I tend to prefer stamped receivers over milled ones for some reason (I really can't quantify the exact reason).
  7. The Krebs AC15 is real nice but I didn't think that it was NJ legal since it's got a pinned flash hider. I'm basically looking for a solid stamped 7.62 or 5.45 AK that I can tinker with. For a 7.62, I'm getting drawn towards the DDI. If I go for the 5.45, I'll probably go towards an unconverted Saiga before they disappear. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I'm guessing that the "bonus" with the Arsenal price tag is that you're getting a factory built gun. That being said, I'm not sure that I'm willing to pay their premium. I just finished my Saiga x39 conversion so I'm looking for a new AK project/toy. I'm just having some trouble deciding what it's going to be since a lot of the newer options (example: the Mutant and the Rock River LAR-47) just interest me much. I may end up buying another WASR or maybe a DDI stamped gun and tinker with it.
  9. While looking at the K-VAR site, I noticed that their NJ compliant model is back in stock. http://www.k-var.com/shop/SAM7R-61N_NEW-JERSEY_COMPLIANT.html Has anyone here grabbed one yet? I'm not sure that I see the advantage of buying this model over any other milled Arsenal gun other than the fact that it would be NJ compliant out of the box. I'd probably be a bit more interested if it were a stamped receiver (just my personal preference for whatever reason).
  10. Thanks - My experience with Mike at Tier One was excellent all around.
  11. It should look even better once I do the Duracoat job Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I just picked up my Saiga from Tier 1 a short while ago. They did a great on the threading and the welding of the compensator. I'll post a picture when I get a chance Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Can you tell me where you got the steel mags? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I'm thinking about getting an AK in 5.45x39 but I'm wondering how easy it will be to find 10 or 15 round magazines. An Internet search came back with Tapco and KVAR making 10 round mags. Can anyone suggest other alternatives? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I've been using one of these for about 2 years and I've got no complaints. The daytime video quality is excellent and, as Malsua stated before me, the night time quality is good but not great. http://www.spytecinc.com/g1w-c-capacitor1080p-hd-car-dash-camera.html
  16. Yep - now I just have to wait for the UPS guy to deliver the brake to me.
  17. Mike (T1) reached out to me and got the information that I was looking for. I went back and forth on the Duracote vs Cerakote question. I'm going to go Duracote on this round but may Ceracote my next conversion Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Thanks for the recommendations. I'm going to give Tier 1 a call tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. It's tempting to try it myself...How do you cut through the barrel shroud? I'm guessing that you would use a pipe cutter to reach the actual barrel?
  20. I thought about doing myself but wasn't sure if I would be breaking the rules. Did you weld the brake on yourself? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I'm going back and forth on that idea. I like the looks of a brake on an AK, but if it's going to be monumentally expensive to do it, I could live without it; however, if I do it I want to make sure that it's done right. I talked to one guy about the threading and he seemed to be real hesitant to give me a number. I have a feeling that it was because a) it wasn't an AR15 and b) it has to be threaded left-hand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Do you mind telling me how much they charged? I'm trying to get a ballpark estimate on how much the front end work is going to cost in addition to buying the brake itself Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I've got my Saiga conversion to the point where I want to thread the barrel and weld a brake on before I Duracoat it. Can anyone recommend a shop that can do this for me (preferably in the Somerset or Mercer area)? Also, does anyone have any experience with this brake? It's NJ compliant as far as I understand since it doesn't act as a flash hider. Any suggestions regarding other brakes would be appreciated as well. http://primaryweapons.com/wp/shop/jtac-47/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I got my Tapco plate in last night with just a tiny bit of filing in order to get it to seat itself properly so I could reinstall the safety lever
