  1. Never really thought about it as I've always traveled by air. Congress voted to withold federal funds from Amtrak if they don't make provisions for passengers to travel with a gun. The system will be similar to the process used on airlines. Thanks for doing the right thing Congress ! http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/09/16/amtrak.guns/index.html?iref=mpstoryview
  2. Don't sweat it man. I feel the same way sometimes. Our problem in general, especially in NJ is that everytime some dope or criminal does something with a gun, it affects you and I, and everyone who does it the right way. If we don't speak up, we will not prevail in preserving our rights.
  3. Let me clarify: I think it's crazy that a toy can be classified as a firearm which there is a pending bill for in NJ for quite a while. This is a grey area in the law in many states. Pointing one of these things in the direction of a LEO or comitting a crime or pointing at anyone else for that matter should be prosecuted as per the law. Painting the orange muzzle violates federal law as it pertains to replica or imitation guns. John Dillinger used a bar of soap and shoe polish to imitate a gun and escape from jail. I'm just explaining what happened to a stupid friend. I don't play with toys, I responsibly handle and shoot real firearms.
  4. "Alrighty Then" Clean off your computer screen and order one. Your crossbow now becomes a firearm I guess since the lower is a gun according to ATF.
  5. According to what my friend was told and charged with, if a police officer percieves something to be a threat, (1911 Airsoft with orange tip painted black) You will be arrested and charged with possession of a firearm. I think it's crazy but it has happened many times in NJ. I'm sure you can search for cases on the net.
  6. Now you can get a Crossbow upper for your AR lower. What will they think of next. I saw it in Shotgun News. http://www.pse-archery.com/prod.php?k=55444&u=01135
  7. While Evan has moved to NH, his brother Lou Nappen runs the practice. Lou helped a frind of mine who had an Airsoft gun problem. 100% Top-Notch when it comes to firearms problems.
  8. No thanks boys ! Man, that joke got turned around quick !
  9. Actually, that's a bong. You puff from the business end !
  10. Centre County, PA issues the most non-resident permits in the state and had issued to NJ residents many, many years ago. I called Centre County last year and Sheriff Denny Nau answered the phone himself. The guy was great and expressed his sympathies to the residents of NJ. He said : "Since there is a provision in NJ that issues CCW's, you must first obtain the license in your home state (NJ), before PA can issue the non-resident permit. He understands that it was next to impossible to get it but the PA law requires it. He said I should move to PA. It's best not to apply as you don't need a rejection on your record when you apply for your Florida CCW.
  11. Looks like they all can handle hot loads !
  12. That's for sure ! If you hook up and have to walk a few feet to land the fish, you have to fight your way back in line to start fishing again. I've fished Douglaston many times. Went early this year to catch em in the lake. Now my son wants to go back in Sept. for the river action.
  13. Due to a west wind for the past two weeks, we were told that the Lake Ontario fishing was terrible. Luckily, my son and I managed to pull out a 20 pound King and a nice Brown Trout. Many boats came back with nothing.
  14. Hey Ruger, Just checked my Gun Traders Guide. They show a similar Stevens Rifle. They were available in many variations. Hard to scan the info so I took pictures for you. The Scheutzen models are considered collectors pieces and command considerably more than the standard models. The websites I listed before show rifles in the $2000 - $ 3000 range.
  15. Saw this as well. http://www.merzantique.com/item.php?id=1671_0_2_0 A little bit more ornate but you could be sitting on a goldmine there. Why don't people give me things like that? Keep researching, there's a lot of info on the net about the Scheutzen Rifles.
  16. You could have a Stevens Scheutzen Rifle there. Winchester made model 1885 Scheutzen rifles as well. Most of these had Pope barrels. The Door Knob Palm Rest is a rare item as far as I can tell. Check this out. http://www.singleshotrifles.com/schuetzen.html
  17. That may certainly be true in the Salmon River as all of the Kings and Coho are just going to spawn and die. The exception are the Steelhead and Brownies which spawn and try to make it back to Lake Ontario. I've been there many times and there are dead or dying salmon everywhere. This is most evident in mid to late Sept. and Oct. These fish give an incredible fight and acrobatics when hooked even though they are half dead. Their skin is starting to turn grey-black and the fillets are pink. As we are going quite early, and fishing in the lake, the fish are bright silver and put up twice the fight. When filleted, the flesh is bright orange as you would expect from a salmon. I read a report that the Great lakes are much cleaner than in the past. Even Lake Erie has a great fishery. As Cold Shot said, always read the report for your reccomended daily allowance of mercury and/or any other contaminants
  18. Did someone say "Nipples" ? Count me in !
  19. Does anyone here do the Pulaski/Lake Ontario Salmon fishing experience ? My son and I are heading up there this week. Have always done the river for years. Going early this year to get them fresh out of the lake on a charter.
  20. Thanks Caine. I'm still searching for the length requirement. Anyone else out there ?
  21. Usually, the safety switch on top of the receiver has 3 positions. bar 1, bar 2, and safe. My old Browning was like that.
  22. Just wondering. I'm doing two carbine builds and would like to get a Magpul CTR for one and a M4 collapsible for the other. Obviously they will need to be pinned. In NJ do we have to pin in the extended position (with carbine tube) to comply with the law ? Or, is the issue with total overall length of the rifle? I know, I know, why pin a stock that is extendable. Just a personal choice.
  23. Thanks guys. I'll be there tomorrow. Just need some components for the builds. I need to feel the grips and stocks before I buy.
