1. It is OK with me. Oh, and make sure you check your local ordinances just in case the local authorities have an opinion.
2. This is one reason to have a slanted view. "BTW, police are exempt from the cell phone law" So I guess the "above the law" attitude seen in many police officers isn't an attitude after all. My error, they really are above the law. I am not on this earth to judge anything but in the course of every day life opinions are formed by other people's actions. I have been an observer for 67 years so far. I must admit I'm not a great observer as I miss most of what goes on right in front of me. My personal experience with police is that many are just OK ordinary people, a few are extraordinarily good people and a lot are assholes. Just my personal opinion from a lifetime of observation. The same can be said for all people. That said, I think police officers are and should be held to a higher standard because of their position in the community. As far as driving and obeying traffic laws, I don't think most civilians know or care about the laws. Cops hang in the left lane, stop waay past the stop line at intersections, speed because then can and in general don't bother with formalities when it comes to driving. Cops should lead by example. It is not just a job. I will respect an officer's position or uniform, but he will need to earn my respect. If anyone disagrees or I have offended anyone........................................too bad. I am just stating my opinion. P.S. Also, many police officers attempt to use their position to intimidate shop keepers and business owners to give discounts. If you always see cops at a particular deli or sandwich shop, I will bet good money they're getting free food and coffee. I have an auto repair and service business and at least 75% of the Ewing and Trenton cops that have come to me asked for a "police discount". What conclusions should I draw? They are cheap? They think they are special? Why should they get special treatment?
3. More than whatever I shot Friday night. I have no idea what it was. They just insisted I shoot it and frankly I was disappointed, it was kinda tame. Maks, what was it? It looked like a 7.62 x 54 cartridge. Is there a larger caliber $80.00 Mosin?
4. So, what's the verdict? Do we have a convert? Lol My Sig 556 has a bigger fireball and louder bang!
5. While I've never tried it, I understand that an electric carving knife works very well for cutting foam rubber. Adios, Pizza Bob I'm pretty late to the party but, I have used an electric carving knife and it really worked well for me.
6. Your recent posts about "thinning the fleet" and "new toys" brought my attention to the subject.
7. Well that was unexpected. I thought I asked an innocent question. Actually I didn't think. Just read a post about some one buying and wondered why. It's all Matt's fault. It's a shame some were offended. I definitely wasn't intentionally trolling. I am torn. There are some weak/wrong arguments out there that should be addressed but I'm going to let it go because I know it will be like banging my head against the wall. A painful waste of time. My statement about going to shoot my new gun was just that. I was going to shoot a new rifle. Never compared it to anything. I guess I'm not down on European firearms as I just bought one. I also shoot a lot of European Lapua and RWS ammo. Maks thank you for pointing out that not all Mosins are $99.00 bang sticks. I got the idea some folks were buying them because they were $99.00. That's mostly what was talked about. For you folks that pointed out all the shortcomings of AR rifles, you didn't need to tell me I know. What I don't know is what an AR is doing in a discussion about Mosin Nagants. As for the reference to 1911 pistols, they still make them and they are built to shoot extremely well. I own an older 1911A1 but it isn't mil surp junk. It's worth as much as a new Wilson or Les Baer and looks and shoots as well or better. There are junk 1911s and "fine firearms" 1911s. I know a Colt collector that has 3 or 4 dozen 1911 pistols. All pristine and worth many thousands of dollars. He has an original Walker Colt that is worth over $100,000.00. I wouldn't want it except if I could buy it right and sell it for a profit. '03s and Garands. I wouldn't want these either. As far as AKs go, it is a different animal compare AKs to ARs if you must but not to long barreled bolt action rifles. I think Ak 47s are great for what they were designed for. Sort of like old government model 1911 A1s, not very accurate but very reliable. They will both go bang every time. No. I don't need to shoot one. I have shot large caliber, high powered rifles and know what it feels like. I don't need the feeling of power or the sore shoulder. Thank you and good night. P.S. The CZ is a keeper so far. Need to find the best ammo yet but the initial outing turned out good. Love the single set trigger. If my TC had a trigger like the CZ it would shoot zero groups. As it is it is consistently .3 to .5 with the occasional .15" at 50 yards.
8. Last post for now, I really want to go shoot. Yes numnutz! (In my best Gunny voice) CZ 453 American is made in CZech Republic. Duh. The model name is 453 American as opposed to 453 Varmint or 452 Lux or 527 American. All CZ rifles made in Czech Republic.
9. I challenge you to a 800 meter outdoor match. My $80 mosin vs your .22 which cost alot more. You can even use a scope How about I bring an FN SPR in 308 and make it apples and apples (bolt action 7.62x51 vs bolt action 7.62 x 54) instead of apples and oranges? I'll take your bet at 50 yards with my bone stock TC .22 semi auto against your $80 Mosin. Haven't shot the CZ yet I'll let you know about that one later. I'm going to CJRPC now. See ya.
10. Mosins arent primative. Thats like calling a remington 700 or a M40 or winchester model 70 etc etc primative. Simply bed the action and it would kick the crap out of an AR-15 at 800 meters Plus, the mosin wont jam like an AR would. Today's battles are not at 800 meters. At 800 meters I would choose a modern rifle designed for that range. Obviously the AR was not meant to be used at that range either. In battle, would you rather have an AR or a Mosin Nagant. I will say again. Not here to debate just asked reasons to buy one of "those" guns.
11. $150 gun $0.20 bullets 3ft fireballs Massive noise It can hit a body at 200 yards. Cleans up with windex Lol...What's NOT to love? I would not call these rifles "junk"... they are extremely durable and have obviously stood the test of time. Just because a more modern war rifle was designed I would not immediately call something junk. That's like saying a K98, K31, 1903, and Lee-Enfields are all junk because semi automatic rifles were invented. Maybe that beat up rusted out Mosin you saw sitting in a rusty old bucket at a gun show was?? I really like how mine looks! They are worth $100-300 bucks. I'd like to see you go outside right now and burn $300... no? ok then. I would equate burning $300.00 cash with buying a Mosin. You're right. I wouldn't do it. How many Ford Mustangs were made? Those are not rare collectibles and people LOVE them! They even turn like crap, are loud and obnoxious, and only go straight really fast. Hell the brakes even suck on them! HAHA! Right you are. Again I ask, "WHY?". Accurate enough... who cares tho? Want accurate get a modern rifle with a scope. This was a mass produced war rifle meant to hit bodies, not 1" squares. If it ain't accurate it is junk. Buy a $200.00 10/22 Ruger (not particularly accurate) spend 5-7 hundred on it to make it accurate. ?????????OOPS there I go again. Now it's the Ruger fans turn. Yes, Yes.... No!! Instead of shooting your $1500 .44 Mag revolver...ehh... just go buy some M2000 wussycrackers. Same thing right? Don't have a 44 mag. Don't want one. I don't shoot to make noise. I enjoy the challenge of hitting my target. I'd be happy if they didn't make any noise. You ever shoot one? :| :| Nope Sorry, but I just don't get it and don't think I ever will. I'm getting out of here now! If anybody is looking for me I'll be at the range for the rest of the day shooting my new CZ 453 American. If it shoots the way people say, I'll keep it.
12. I was not looking for an argument. Just asking why. I want everyone to know I have nothing against the "old junk" or collectors. I just wanted to know WHY others are enamored with it. Old mustangs, old mosins, old anything that does not work as well as modern counterparts don't compute for me. If the thing was rare or had some other significant reason for being, I could see it. I understand Mosins do have historical significance but, just like black powder guns and muzzle loaders, ?????????? Why use primitive tools? Reminds me of people collecting state quarters. Why? Every time you get 25 or more cents change you get one. Different strokes for different folks is OK. Just askin'.
13. That's a good point there. As long as it's just until we can afford some good semiautomatics and machine guns. Every army that ever used them lost. (probably) (I think)
14. OK! I can't hold it in any more. WHY!?!?? Why do "you guys" buy junk that the Russians et al have tossed on the scrap pile? They look like crap. Have little or no monetary value. Obviously aren't rare collectibles. Do they shoot well? Super accurate? Huh? I've been told because they're cheap and ammo's cheap. If all you want to do is make bang bang, buy firecrackers that would be even cheaper. Just had to ask.
15. So, the monitor won't run. Is the check engine light on? Codes? If no check engine light and no cat codes your cats are possibly or probably good. The monitor needs preset conditions to run and test the cat. A bad cat will not prevent the monitor being run. Purpose of the monitor is to test the cat. If the only problem is "monitor not run" you can't blame the catalytic converters. They have not been tested yet. From your other post it sounds like a whole lot of shotgun diagnostics has been performed.
16. I disagree!! Nothing wrong with bringing a knife in addition to your guns and ammo.
17. Is from my town, Woodbridge! Just curious ... how much does this model normally go for? Top examples usually are $1400.00 and up. Lesser ones with wear or idiot scratches much less. As with anything, condition is the determining factor. I think a NIB Colt National Match Gold Cup Series 70 could go for as much as two grand. Also the Series 80 guns are less desirable because of the added firing pin safety. The National Match Gold Cup also is available in .38 and a really "Super" gun for target use. There is a good market for older Colt 1911 and 1911A1 pistols among collectors. YMMV
18. I would buy this one over all the rest. If it is legit. In NJ too. Again, if as advertised, at this price it is a good buy. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=178860341 I already have one like this but a couple of years older. Very accurate and reliable! Better than the current Gold Cup Trophy. If I had a grand to play with I'd buy this to save or resell at a profit. It will be interesting to see how high it goes.
19. If folks were allowed to defend their property as they are sometimes allowed to defend their lives, the situation changes. It would now become the thief's decision whether the trailer is worth his life. I think putting the crooks life in his own hands is the fair way to go.
20. Tell GRIZ to get his facts straight. Fromhttp://www.cjrpc.org/index.cfm?wpid=14 "HIGH POWER (300 METER) RIFLE RANGE RULES 1. ALL GENERAL RANGE AND SAFETY RULES APPLY. 1. All firearms brought to or removed from the firing line must be cased or boxed. 2. All shooting is to be done from the firing line. Minimum firing distance is fifty (50) yards except for ORGANIZED AND SUPERVISED matches and events approved by the Board of Directors. 3. The shooting of any caliber in excess of .45 (except black powder which is limited to .70 caliber or less) is not permitted without prior approval of the Board of Directors. Shotguns (10 gauge or smaller) with shot up to and including buckshot or balls or slugs are permitted. 4. Handgun shooting is not permitted on the high power rifle range with out the prior approval of the Board of Directors. 5. Paper or metal targets only are permitted. Glass, masonry products, cans, jugs, clay "birds" or anything else IS NOT A PERMITTED TARGET. 6. Targets and temporary target holders, brass (including 22 rimfire) and other trash are to be removed from the range when shooting is finished. Unexpended ammunition is not to be left on club property. All brass is to be removed from the concrete surface, including .22 RF. Shooting benches are not to be removed and are to be returned if moved from under the covered firing line. 7. Eye and ear protection is required and ear protection is strongly recommended for shooters and observers."
21. I would be compelled to think what is wrong with these people. When my sons were young and lived at home I don't think anyone knew. If I was asked, I would not answer. I think it is rude to ask that question. I would nicely tell them it's none of their effing business. My kids are grown and have their own homes now. Present time everyone knows I have guns and am extremely radical and dangerous. :violence-guntoting:
