  1. I carry at home every night as soon as I get home from work. Now, I only pocket a KetTec P3AT in a Desantis pocket holster, but I consider it my method to either 1. get to the big guns or 2. hold them off long enough to give my wife a chance to get to the big guns. However, I holster it in condition 3 (no round in the chamber) because I am frequently playing with my baby daughter down in our family room. Even though it's tightly secured in a holster within my jeans pocket, I still don't want to take any chances. If someone broke in while we were in the family room (either playing with the baby or watching a movie after the baby was asleep) we would be isolated from the stairwell and unable to either escape out a door or gain access to our other guns. Having this with me would at least buy us some chance to get to safety. Also, I work out in my detached garage, many times at night. If someone strolled up the driveway and confronted me in there, I'd be a fish in a barrel without anything on me. I have friends who think I'm insane for carrying at home and many more who have never suspected it and never would realize. It only looks like a cell phone in my pocket, anyway. For that matter, if I answered the door, even if it was a cop, he'd have no reason to be suspicious since it conceals so well, and since it's inside my front pocket, if I needed to reach around back for my wallet to show ID (for some reason), it wouldn't unconceal anything.
  2. A friend went in and talked to Gary over the weekend. (Same last name as Ray, so I'm assuming Gary is Ray's brother). He said Gary was extremely enthusiastic and friendly and told him he could have anything ordered and delivered in 2 days. I seriously can't wait until I save up enough to buy another because now I know who I'll buy from!
  3. Exactly. How sad is it that I have to make that choice? It's funny - a bunch of us were sitting around discussing the police layoffs on Monday and I suggested exactly what you said above to a young, female coworker. She is notorious for being naive and oblivious, so it didn't surprise me when she acted shocked that I even thought about these things every minute of every day. It "never occurred to her". I'll be honest - I work in what is probably the safest part of Camden. But it's still Camden. And now that the criminals know the police will not respond to "non emergencies", it may become a free-for-all even here.
  4. Thanks to both of you guys for the info! It sounds like this is going to be pricey, just for shipping. KelTec pays return shipping, but I have to pay to have it sent to them.
  5. My Kel-Tec P3AT has some extractor problems and I need to send it back to the factory under its lifetime warranty. My range owner over in PA told me that if NJ laws allow it, I could have it returned to his location (PA FFL), but I can't seem to find any information on the process in NJ. Can I ship it on my own via UPS? Do I need to declare it or anything? Or do I have to ship through an FFL? And if so, does it have to be a NJ FFL? Do I need to pay FFL transfer fees? For the return, can it be shipped directly to me or does it have to be to an FFL? Does it have to be a NJ FFL? Do I need to pay fees to the FFL and fill out a new 4473 to get it back? With our state, I fully expect this process to be convoluted and complicated. Who knows how much I'll end up spending. Do any of you guys have experience here and know what I need to do, specifically? Thanks!
  6. I have pepper spray, too, but it's only sold (legally) in 3/4oz or less. The wasp spray would last much longer and allow me to spray off many more attackers. Meanwhile, I'd be dead with a few 9mm wounds. Thanks, NJ.
  7. I work in Camden near the Aquarium part of town. I talked to my wife Monday night about carrying my P3AT to work, but we decided that if by some chance the cops started to get resentful and spitefully pulled over "business people" or "outsiders" and started searching, I could end up like Brian Aitken. With a 10-mo-old daughter and wife at home, it's just not worth that chance. But then again, is it worth the chance of getting killed instead? This is how sick our state really is. I have to choose between driving unarmed through the most dangerous city with half its police force or rick going to jail with a felony/misdemeanor charge. My decision was just to keep a stupid can of wasp spray on the seat next to me all the time. I know it won't do much good, but it's better than nothing.
  8. I'm moving to Cherry Hill soon so I used this as a good excuse to contact the township. I just emailed the Det Sgt who runs the firearm permitting for CHPD and politely inquired about this system. I'll update this thread when I get a response.
  9. When I stopped in on Friday most of his shelves were empty, but he did say they're building stock. The problem is that as he gets stuff in, it's selling so fast that he can't even keep anything on the shelves right now. He literally just opened up, so he'll probably have much more inventory within the month, if anything can stick around long enough to get under the counter. We would have stayed longer and checked it out more, but my 10-mo-old daughter was cranky, tired, and hungry so it was really just a "hi, great to see you're here and good luck" type of visit. alowerlevel, I'm only a few blocks away, too - send me a msg and maybe we'll meet up there some day.
  10. I just wanted to throw a bone out to the newest (and only) gun shop in my little home town: Rayco Armory, 177 South Center Street, Merchantville, NJ 08109, (856)663-1300 - behind the former location of Nando's Pizzeria. My wife, daughter, and I stopped in a few days ago and met Ray and Ernie. Both of them were very warm and friendly and did not have any "gun counter attitude". I definitely plan on making all of my future purchases through them. They offer reasonable FFL transfers, gun sales/orders, ammo, accessories - all of the stuff you would expect from a small and local gun shop. But best of all - none of it comes with any attitude and they are more than friendly to strike up a conversation and let you hang out there and talk guns, politics, etc. for a while. Those of you who live in areas that have gun shops may not understand my excitement, but when the closest place (other than Dick's) is 25-30 minutes away and this guy is literally within walking distance, this is huge!

OUCH. I didn't realize that. That's really a bummer as I love my KelTec 3AT (same as the LCP) for the fact that there is no manual safety and it has a long, heavy trigger pull. The manual safety would be a deal breaker for me. What's the MSRP on it, anyway?
  12. Anyone who is interested in reading about CA's ammunition bill (much/most/all of which goes into effect Feb 2011) can read all about it here: http://www.ab962.org You have to give a thumbprint to purchase ammo, now in CA!
  13. No one mentioned the #1 thing that really sux about CA laws - 50 round ammo purchase/transfer limit PER MONTH! 50 ROUNDS PER MONTH!!!
  14. Ok, so when I learned to shoot 2 years ago, I cheated and closed my left (non-dominant) eye. Of course this made things very easy because when focused on my front sight, I only saw one target in the distance. However, last time at the range I tried to force myself to shoot with both eyes open. Due to the obvious parallax, I saw two targets while focused on the front sight. So, the "real" target due to my right eye dominance is the one on the right. Does anyone else have this parallax issue? It's not really a problem when taking my time and shooting at a paper target, but I'm nervous about how I would shoot if in a real life situation where time is an issue. I'm afraid that I'd shoot at the "left" target, thus missing completely. How do you get around this? Is this common? Thanks in advance.
  15. Use GPAL (formerly gunpal). https://www.gpal.net/ They were set up as a gun-friendly alternative to paypal and you don't need an account to make a payment. Their owner is a gun guy, too. And, yes, it is official, legal, safe, etc.
  16. I couldn't put in more than 1. My wife will be with me (she's also part of the CCW list).

    Combos?

I had the same dilemma back in 2008 when buying my first shotty. I asked everyone I knew and got the same answers you're getting here. In the end, I chalked up the extra cash for the 870. Since it was my first gun purchase, I figured if there was any difference in the long run, I wanted to make it worthwhile - something to pass down to my kids as Daddy's first gun. Of course, I wish I sprung for the Wingmaster, but then I'd never want to take it outside. I'm happy with the 870 - it really does take a beating and the synthetic stock is definitely durable. I ended up getting it in an OD green color, and it works nice for hunting. I really can't complain about the performance with either barrel and it's been very smooth all around. The only catch is that the plastic part of the stock by the rails seems to wear a bit - this is a concern long-term, but I can always replace it if need be. I have no experience with the equivalent 500, so I really can't state whether I feel this purchase was better or worse than if I went with Mossberg. I can just state that overall I'm happy with the purchase. At the time I think I paid $375 or so for the 870 express combo. Best of luck and let us know what you end up getting (pics).
  18. Welcome, from right up the street in Merchantville. FYI, there's a guy in Merchantville (Rayco Armory) who is potentially going to open a shop/range locally. I know very little details so far, but I'll let you and the other locals on here know when I hear anything new. In the meantime, I highly recommend a little range called "Pistol People" in Bensalem, PA. It's a little bit of a drive, but it's a no BS place.
  19. This seriously makes me want to go to law school and become an attorney just to represent legal firearms owners and fight for our rights in NJ. There seems to be way more demand than supply, here!
