  1. Great guy to deal with. Enjoy the gun!
  2. " What brand of ammo do you use? Is this gun picky about what you run through it? " I have used cci bulk, federal bulk, cci quiets & even the dreaded golden bullet without fail. The synthetic stock feels a little cheap. I should have waited for the wood stock. I If you are ever in Ocean Co, lemme know and we can go shoot it and my other .22 rifles, all marlins...795, 880 & 989m2.
  3. I have the XT22 and also a Marlin 880. Love the Marlin bolt guns. Ditto the federal bulk recommendation. CCI bulk is also good to go. I really like the CCI Quiets. The lack of noise is really cool. Pull the trigger, hear a tiny pop and then hear the impact of the round downrange a wee bit later. It may be my favorite thing to shoot out of my bolt guns. I am sure there are better choices for precision work, but I am just plinking, so cheap is the way to go for me.
  4. A little late to add to this, but here is the story... Checked in to Belmont. Ick. But, right across street from police & fire, so should be safe. 2 hours later, the editors at paper choose to pull us out for safety reasons. So, we cruised around all day Sunday and Monday, covering the approaching storm for the Star-Ledger in our rented F150 4 door 4wd. AMAZING TRUCK!!! We finally got off island on Monday night at 9. Just about did not get off. Poles and wires down on highway. Called TR police chief Mastronardy, he says "What the F**k are you still doing on the Island. Get the F**K of the island now." He says to drive over downed lines on the eastbound bridge, driving wrong way off the island. Got home with my reporter and drank. Alot. Attached is a photo of what we saw on bridge at 9pm on Monday. Poles and lines blocking road. Also attached is a photo from today. I got to fly with Gov. in a Blackhawk from West Trenton to Teterboro. If I may, here are some links to some of the photos I took. http://photos.nj.com..._nj_/index.html I took all seaside heights photos. My reporter and I were the first ones on the island on Tuesday. It has been quite a week, the most amazing week of my career.
  5. News reports are one thing. Something on State Police letterhead is another. That said, googling now.
  6. mrlew, If I give you my email in a pm, would you forward it to me? This changes things.
  7. Oh, and I will be sleeping in my own sleeping bag, with my own pillow.
  8. Booked a room at Belmont. A few TV crews are staying there, so misery will have company. Toms River sounds nicer, but our fear is the bridge being shut down with us on the mainland, unable to get across to cover the mayhem. Of course, a mandatory evac will close the motel and we will be at my house in Bayville. Thanks for the advice.
  9. I am heading to Seaside to cover the hurricane for the Ledger. I need a room for me and a reporter. Anyone have any first hand experience with a hotel that will not give us an infection? Need to book this room pretty soon. Many thanks.
  10. This is copied over from another thread in hopes of more eyeballs & some advice. My 1972 S&W 19-3 is sick. Yesterday, it stopped working. I fired 45 rounds of Magtech .357 Magnum through the gun without fail. On the last load of 6 rounds, 5 rounds fired and then the gun locked up and would not fire in single or double action. The cylinder would also not open. I was able to open the gun with a smack of my palm to empty the cylinder. I reloaded the last round, and again the gun locked up. I let it rest for awhile and shot a few hundred flawless rounds out of my Buckmark. When I went back to the 19, she reluctantly fired, but locked up again and I could not open it. In the other thread, Pizza Bob made this suggestion...... It sounds like your ejector rod has unscrewed itself and is binding the cylinder. It is reverse threaded - turn it counter-clockwise to tighten (which will also shorten it and unbind the gun). Simply tightening fully may be enough, but if it starts to back-off again, I would inscrew it completely and use a couple drops of purple loc-tite on the threads - be careful, use sparingly and only on the threads - you don't want it migrating into the sleeve the cylinder rides on. This morning...... I got the cylinder to open & removed the crane and cyl. Ejector rod was fine. I disassembled the cylinder and scrubbed it clean. Put it all back together and the cyl. is binding on 1 or 2 chambers, as if the cyl. is warped or something else is bent. I see nothing out of the ordinary. It is still very difficult to open up. I think I will try a local smith and save myself the shipping cost and hassle. This is a beater, so a trip to S&W is not needed. Any local shops you would recommend or avoid?

  12. Pizza Bob, Sure! Maybe you have some knowledge that you can impart to me on fixing it before I ship it out. To quote my letter to S&W... "I purchased this gun 8 months ago. Today, it stopped working. I reloaded the last round, fired the round, and again the gun locked up. The empty case is still in the gun. I cannot open the cylinder and I do not want to smack it again." I almost had to ship the gun to them with a live round in the chamber, as I could not get the gun to fire. I let it rest for awhile and shot a few hundred flawless rounds out of my Buckmark. When I went back to the 19, she reluctantly fired, but locked up again and I could not open it. This will not be a free repair. I bought the gun cheap and well-used and it is of 1972 vintage, so if someone has an idea of how to fix it without shipping it to S&W, I would consider a DIY or local repair. Thanks. David
  13. Woodentoe, Funny you should ask that. I had to choose what to sell, the Sec Six or the S&W 19. I kept the 19. It broke today. I have bought 3 used S&W revolvers, 2 have broken. The 19 goes back to S&W tomorrow and I hope the bill is not too big. To answer your question....yes. I am very happy to hear you love the Ruger.
  14. I think all were $425. Very, very clean guns.
  15. I was in Shore Shot today to shoot and I looked at the toys in the cases. They have at least 6 or 7 very clean Ruger Security/Speed Six revolvers, 2 and 4 inch barrels, half blue, half SS. They say they came from an estate sale. I post this as a public service for you fans of the Security and Speed Six guns. To have so many in one place seems like a great opportunity.
  16. Range 14 said no last week. Too few deer around to clean up the mess.
  17. to quote... Muzzleloading rifle and shotgun range: muzzleloading firearms, shotguns with rifled slugs or buckshot and modern rimfire (both .17 and .22 caliber) rifles only.
  18. UPDATE!!!! jsmit pointed me to this link. Many thanks! http://www.eregulations.com/newjersey/hunting/wildlife-management-area-regulations/# .17 is now good to go at WMAs that allow rimfires. COOOL! Of course, I do not own a .17, but maybe soon?
  19. Showed up on time, with cash! What could be better?
  20. On Milsurp rifles, he whomps Tips. But he has no new inventory yet, so he has a lot of catching up to do. Tips has nice, new display cases for dozens and dozens of new handguns, many new shotguns and a ton of accessories. I much prefer shopping for used guns, so I will make a point to go in every week on my way to Stafford Forge WMA.
  21. Stopped by this shop today. Nice people, lots of C&R rifles on the racks. Guy says he sold from his home for a few years, mostly on Gunbroker. He says as he sells off his old stuff, he will build up an inventory of new stuff. Good price on Federal 9mm, 12.99. Woulda bought a box or 2 but his credit card reader is not set up yet. Stuff that caught my eye.... a couple tricked out 10-22s, a Remington Nylon .22, a used AR (did not notice brand), a few Colt revolvers and a S&W 459. Will certainly make it a regular stop when out and about. He is on East Bay Ave., near the Cumberland Farms. Check it out and at least buy some ammo to support a local shop.

  25. As a photo editor at the SL, I get to see thousands of photos from the wire feeds from around the world every day. Occasionally, I see cool gun photos and never think to share them. I will try to remedy that. Today is the 1st IPSC Shotgun World Championship in Debrecen, Hungary. "The championship runs from 24 until 30 September 2012, with the participation of 524 competitors, including 39 women, from 30 countries." EPA photos by ZSOLT CZEGLEDI. Some pretty neat looking Saiga 12s being used. Not a big fan of purple guns, but I would make an exception for this one.
