    MINI 14 Question

^ that's what i figured. I did the same with my mini 14 the first time
  2. you know what's surprising? the accuracy wasn't as atrocious as i thought it would be. Idk what it was but it surprised me, I was shooting from a bench with a sandbag shooting 5.56 green tip Lake city 62 gr. with this old redfield 4x scope that came with it. also the mini 14 did have one of those recoil buffers installed maybe that helped? i didn't have an actual legit target so i had a couple old gallon water jugs filled with pond water and a basic e- type silhouette cardboard cutout at about 67 paces( that's my rough 100 meter pace count) i hit the gallons, and though it wasn't anything worth writing home I did keep all the rounds in about a 4.5 - 5 inch group on the E-type except for a couple wingers, and those were user error. which from what I've heard is about the same as the older 183 series with a full length barrel. not sure why it was shooting that "well" maybe cus there's less barrel hanging free besides the brake? I heard about the infamous mini 14 barrel whip, but never experienced it myself so i couldn't say one way or the other. i wish i remembered to record ambient temp and humidity too -__- i might just swap the barrel for a standard 183 barrel and get one of those accu struts because whether i sell this one and get a new one won't change the fact that I still want the ultiMAK count rail and a scout scope. I found a 183 barrel on numrich for 35.00, so depending on how much it would cost to get the barrel swapped I may either do that or sell it and start from scratch with a newer mini 14. Only problem with that is the prices on these new mini 14's are none too friendly right now. IF I'm getting a different mini 14 it HAS to be the 580+ series PRICING: 183 series ( that I own already) Accu-strut or Mo-rod = $79-89 Barrel from Numrich $35 gunsmithing needed to replace= $ unknown UltiMAK scout rail = $139 Mueller Speed Shot 1-4x24= $239 ----------------------------------------------------- grand total $492-502 + installing the barrel VS. NEW 580+ series If i can sell my 183 series rifle at the same price I bought it for=$500 ( I REFUSE to price gouge, mama raised me better that that) NEW mini 14 580+ series are hovering around=$950 UltiMAK scout rail= $139 Mueller Speed Shot 1-4x24= $239 I wouldn't need the accu-strut cus the better barrel ----------------------------------------------- grand total= 1328-500= $828 decisions.....decisions....
  3. Hello guys, I have an older model 183 series in stainless steel it came with a really short barrel with a pretty long muzzle brake welded on there ( it pushes 16.2 inches) I haven't seen this kinda brake before but it's really clunky and super front heavy. and I'm not a huge fan of it to be honest, the previous owner must have had the barrel chopped and ditched the front sight because the rifle came with a scope mount but no irons, which sucks. it came with a redfield 4x scope. so My plans, if they are even feasible are the following: Hogue overmold stock ( I like the semi pistol grip stocks better, aesthetically more pleasing) replace the handguard with an amega or ultiMAK scout scope rail and get some LER scope or maybe a low magnification pistol scope. ( this one is obviously possible) buy one of those accu struts or mo rod barrel stabilizers ( does anyone have personal experience with them?) swap out the barrel for a proper 16 or 18 inch barrel ( here's where it gets tricky, I've heard the older model pencil barrels didn't do much for accuracy for the mini-14, So I'm wondering if it's possible to put a later model 580 series barrel on the action and get a new gas block that will fit said barrel) if it's possible could someone recommend a competent gunsmith who can do this job locally? If I can't get a newer barrel and gasblock, does anyone know where I can go to do a barrel swap? I can easily get an older 183 series barrel so that wouldn't be an issue. does anyone know where a guy can get pinned or other wise permanently modified 15/20 or 15/30 round mags in NJ? or If i can get magazines out of state to be shipped to someone who can pin them? screen capture windows this is what it looks like now which I really don't like
  4. rgr that saiga whore, thanks for the Heads up
  5. to hell with it... they're both gas operated rotating bolts... im gjust gonna dress up a mini 14 into a carbine =]
  6. half of the models i put up had a different name than "Carbine, M1 .30 cal" and had one evil feature( bayonet mount) and some didn't even have that! example: the universal carbines after '67 were mechanically different weapons. they just look similar. God forbid i put a M1 carbine style furniture on a ruger 10/22... and i don't see Universal on that list of banned names... unless it's changed again -__- by their logic. most of these weapons are different in NAME and lack enough evil features to make it ban worthy ( not that any fire arms is truly ban worthy) also I'm just super butthurt cus i had an M1 carbine that i had to sell to a friend when i moved back to NJ
  7. Oh i also love how they put "Plainfield Machine Company Carbine" on the list of banned names....but it's a civilian Repro of an M1. guess that means all the other companies are good to go =]
  8. thoughts on thumbhole stocks being a loophole around pistol grips? kinda new to rifles in NJ.
  9. Oh i alwso love how they put "Plainfield Machine Company Carbine" on the list of banned names....but it's a civilian Repro of an M1. guess that means all the ohter companies are good to go =]
  10. let's see...what's wrong with this law. EVERYTHING. let's start with the fact that an "M1 carbine type" weapon system is completely NJ legal bare bones without any modification, and lets be honest there aren't too many semi auto rifles that can do that. If anything the M1 carbine should be the POSTER CHILD of what an NJ legal semiautomatic sporting rifle is. Standard M1 carbines have only one of the following: A semi-automatic rifle that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the following: (1) A folding or telescoping stock; (2) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon; (3) A bayonet mount (4) A flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; and (5) A grenade launcher; and that is an "Evil" feature that could be removed ,albeit damaging the value of the firearm Nor is it an SBR ( 18 in barrel 36 in. overall length). They were first fielded with, hey what do you know.. 15 round magazines! also NJ legal the only possible "reason" i could see for banning them stems from the M1A1 carbine because it has a folding stock ( don't even get me started on those asinine laws either) the enforcer pistols ( M1 carbine "ASSAULT" pistols) and the M2 and M3 select fire versions which had not only a fully automatic function but also had the T23 FLASHIDER ( scary scary scary). but As any respectable gun owner knows, those are all different weapons from the "M1 Carbine type" that the law makes a specific reference to, hence all the different designations of M1A1, Enforcer, M2, M3 and the like. Funny thing they can be as specific as they want about a firearm when it suits them, but as soon as we start splitting hairs... anyways all that venting/ranting brings me to my next point If a weapon that is not a USGI M1 carbine ( military issue) is brought into NJ it wouldn't be "Substantially identical" to the M1 carbine. to be substantially Identical it must have a detachable magazine ( which it does) and 2 of the following: (1) A folding or telescoping stock; (2) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon; (3) A bayonet mount; (4) A flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; (5) A grenade launcher which it DOESN'T ( it only has ONE) and a lot of civilian versions do not even have the bayonet mount, thus making it a big fat ZERO , therefore wouldn't that mean that a civilian copy of the M1 Carbine would thus be legal versus an original USGI M1 carbine that is banned by the good political asshats of NJ? These copies were marketed to the general public and police agencies but were not made for or used by the U.S. military, thus not being the same weapon in both name and practice. by that logic this would make certain models of "civilian sporting rifles" NJ legal such as: Certain Auto-Ordnance AOM model(s) as follows: AOM110 ( has a standard metal heat shield) and birch stock and furniture and rotary safety AOM120 ( also has non standard heat shield) birch furniture and rotary safety and comes with 10 rd magazine which makes it so that it's even CA legal... ( Note: I am referring to the solid stock versions of both, there are also paratrooper style models as well which are obviously illegal in NJ by their laws. Also these two models are discontinued, however they are still floating around) AOM130 Walnut furniture and doesn't even have the bayonet lug, just an early type GI barrel band AOM140 same as above but once again CA legal with a 10 round magazine AOM150 ILLEGAL due to folding stock AOM160 ILLEGAL due to folding stock (and i think it looks hideous, trying to Tacticool out an M1 carbine) ERMA Werke model(s) as follows: ERMA-Werke Model E M1 .22 LR Self-Loading Rimfire Rifle ERMA-Werke Model EGMI 70. The stock had no sling hole, the front sight had an elevated single blade also .22LR) you will also see excam importing ESG 22, the E M1 modified for the .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire cartridge Note: these were completely different rifles internally they were gas operated, straight blowback versus gas operated rotating bolt like a true M1 Carbine Israeli Arms International Model M888 The shape of the gas piston housing is unique to these barrels National Ordnance Alpine carbine distinctive low profile fore end Alpine Carbine with cadmus stock ILLEGAL ( imagine a M1 carbine with an MP40 grip and under folding stock Strateline carbine had a solid wooden stock with a pistolgrip similar in shape and ange to that of an M16A1 ( ONE illegal feature, still LEGAL) no bayonet lug Universal Arms Universal Model 30 had a completely different barrel Band called a "stock lock" and after 1967 they completely changed the bolt and the recoil slide, amongst other things in fact a vast majority of parts would not be interchangable, and thus for all intents and purposes would prove to be a different weapon. so this one should be absolutely legal if none of the others are not. it's a completely different gun internally. Legacy is also maknig a .22 caliber rifle called the M1-22 that uses a straight blowback operated system, once again proving to be a different weapon anyways its 5:53 AM and i still need to finish studying psychology BS for my exam im wrapping it up here Sources :http://www.m1carbinesinc.com/index.html thoughts gentlemen?
  11. alright, don't laugh at me but I only have one revolver. not even a good one either I have an old Arminius HW3 in .32 S&W Long /.32 S&W short with a snubbed barrel. It's a decent little snubbed nosed made in 1967 if the markings are all correct. all matching parts lock up and timing is good. shoots well for it's size and build
  12. Probably gonna get blasted for this but I still honestly do not understand why an m1 carbine is considered illegal in NJ except for the paratrooper model it doesn't even have a pistol grip. nor does it have a standard flash hider. and they have 15 rd magazines that fit the legal limit. It isn't an SBR ( 18in barrel, 36 inch over all) it's a handy little carbine and it KILLS me that I can't have one. I used to have an inland division M1 carbine that i bought from a pawn shop in tuscaloosa when i was stationed in alabama, it was the prettiest little thing, always shot true and the .30 carbine caliber is a blast to shoot. god damn NJ
  13. Note: I've been to Numrich's website, I found the stock bolt and washer and the accesroies but they do not have a stock for the K121 or the K120 riot version.
  14. Hey guys, I need the help of the shotgun gurus of NJ on this one. So I have this old Flite King K121 shotgun, it's got a 26 inch barrel great for water fowl with the plug to limit the amount of ammunition it can carry. Like I said, it's OLD the action is great though, the blueing is starting to wear in some spots which in my mind gives it a certain sense of character that my black guns just dont have. unfortuantely the stock broke. completely. i had it out on a table to clean and the end of the barrel was sticking off the table. i don't know how but one of my friends was walking by and his hip jarred the barrel and the entire weapon system fell on the concrete floor. the stock cracked ( not repairable trust me) and the stock bolt was completely bent. i removed both and now I am left with a completely stockless weapon. what I'm wondering is where can I find an old flite kign K121 stock. i found one on gunbroker and on ebay and they were both outbid while i went to drill. ( just my luck) do you guys know where I can find one or if there are any other older shotgun types (J.C. higgins Sears ETC) that have stocks that would either match it or would match after a minimum of modification? any help would be appreciated / kim
  15. I have a taurus millenium pro PT111 which is kinda similiar to the 24/7 compact. I run mine pretty hard I'd say, Not as hard my 19 obviously=P and I never really had any problems with the taurus. the trigger pull is kinda looong though. I personally never had any hardware issues with the weapon however. I like it, and it fits my asian hads pretty well =P

    SG works SKS stock

well i was planning on leaving the fixed ten rounder in anyways and I don't think it can be installedl with the bayonet or the yugo 'nade launcher
  18. Hey guys I was wondering whether the SG works bullpup stock for the SKS was NJ law complaint? I'm not to good at this fine print and political double talk so if someone could help out I'd appreciate it

    H&R PArdner Pump

ehh SKS's are dirt cheap and utterly reliable for me too. i don't necessarily thing price is a deciding factor in how good a gun is, like i parroted before new 870s ezpecially the express magnums have serious issues and you still pay a premium for name brand, i know that H&R is built of remington tooling and except for that rough chamber issue it runs pretty good. i doubt i run my guns as hard as some of you guys but the way i figure it if it shoots and shoots reliably it'll do it well enoguh in a HD situation. (hopefully i won't ever have a HD situation where i need to run a shotgun as hard as i imagine some of you guys do)

    H&R PArdner Pump

i guess you didn't read the part where i wrote that it operates fine now that i dremeled out the chamber... before i had that issue addressed it wasn't doing **** but just being a shooter, but now that it ejects properly i've got two HD shotguns =D

    H&R PArdner Pump

I'm sorry, i guess being made from china means it's only use should be to be " used as a chinese knock off".... what does that even mean? it's a fine HD shotgun for my needs and yeah the chamber was rough, the ran a dremel and it works just fine now, thanks for the tip guys, and considering some of the newer remington 870s have noticable fit and finish issues at least I know what I'm paying for with the H&R. and I'm sure you don't mean to, but MAN does that sound condesending, and no I can afford better and I have an older 870 that runs like greased lightning. I was just asking a question about a specific question about a specific weapon
  23. Hey Guys, It's my first time ont his forum so bear with me. Does anyone else have a H&R Pardner Pump 12 gauge? Cus I love mine ( yeah, yeah I know it's a remington knock off) It works damn well for the most part and It eats all sorts of ammuition. The reason I ask is because i bought mine used, and everyonce in a while it seems to have trouble ejecting spent shells, When I operate the slide sometimes it clearly throws the shells away a good couple feet, but every once in a while i get a really anemic ejection where the shell barely falls out the receiver or even get a FTE and a double feed ( ....) any one hae any idea why this might be the case? thanks PFC Kim
