  1. Has anyone ever seen the large Bighorn 6039 safe for sale at Costco? I always see their small Bighorn safe 19ECB but not the larger one.
  2. And it is pushed again to Fridays October 30, 2015 conference (ugh).
  3. I tried the shotgun today and success!! I tried a variety of shells and nothing hung up in the magazine. I did find that the really light loads (950fps) would not cycle the bolt back but the other +1150fps loads worked great. There is no way I would have figured this out myself so a big thanks to everyone. As advertised the gun is really fast. I could fire the 7 shells (6+1) as fast as I could pull the trigger The recoil is pretty light especially with the Limbsaver butt pad I installed.
  4. Just to be clear I am not old enough to have these types of problems, but I have heard about them (sure). I went to a regular eye doctor at Costco and explained what I wanted and they obliged. I got two different prescriptions. I am right eye dominant so I got a single prescription for the exact distance from my eye to my front sight (no bifocal or progressive) so that I can clearly see my front pistol sight. You should have someone use a tape measure to get the distance from your eye to your pistol front sight. My left eye is my regular progressive prescription. The doctor thought I would have problems just walking but it was amazing that in a minute or two my eyes adjusted to the different prescriptions. So now I can clearly see my front sight without contorting my head back. Unfortunately my shooting still needs improvement and now I can't blame my eyeglasses!
  5. So I used a stone followed by some 400 grit emery cloth. At least with dummy shells when I click the trigger or press the carrier stop button a shell is fed onto the carrier. I am feeling like this was the problem. The proof will be when I get to the range and try some light loads. Thanks everyone for the help (particularly Vlad) and I will let you know how it goes.
  6. Although the P2P do have serial numbers you don't return the ones you don't use. Once they expire you can do whatever you want with them (at least that is what I have done).
  7. Yes I do see the shell stop move to the left but apparently not enough to release the shell. I am hoping the polishing will do the trick.
  8. Vlad: Just to make sure I am looking at the right button: what you called the shell release button is called the carrier stop button in the manual (a small 1/4" metal button on the hinged end of the lifter). I tried these tests and the shell is not being released either by the carrier stop button or by pressing the trigger (I used dummy shells to test this). I didn't even realize it was suppose to release a shell. I always loaded the first shell directly into the chamber. I can see the shell stop that holds the shells in the magazine moving but I think the shell is still caught up on it. I checked the Brian Enos thread and that sounds similar to what I am seeing. I am going to try removing the part and as they suggested doing some light polishing with a stone on the cartridge latch. I will report back on whether that fixes the problem.
  9. Dave: I tried these things and they look OK. Thanks.
  10. I just ordered the Nordic Teflon coated follower. I am not sure if that is problem but it sounds like a good idea anyway.
  11. When it locks back there are no shells on the lifter. I have taken it apart a couple of times and thoroughly cleaned and lubricated it. I also added a +1 Nordic extension which had its own spring and same results (since then I removed the extension put back the original spring). Is there anything in particular that I can look at?
  12. Some of the shells I have tried are (all 12 guage - 2 3/4"): Remington Premier STS Light Target 8 1/2 (1145 fps, DrEq=2 3/4, Oz Shot=1 1/8) Winchester xtra-lite target load 8, 81/2, and 9 (1180 fps, Oz Shot=1) Fiocchi White Rino 7 1/2, and 8 (1250 fps, Oz Shot=1 1/8) Winchester AA Heavy Traacker 7 1/2 (1250 fps, DrEq=3, Oz Shot 1 1/8)
  13. I have a Beretta 1301 comp shotgun. It has never consistently cycled target loads. It will fire the first and sometimes the second but rarely more than two shells. It seems to work great with low recoil buck shot and slugs. When I say it doesn't cycle I mean after firing it locks the bolt back even though there are more shells in the magazine. I have tried a variety of shells including Winchester and STS. Any ideas what the issue might be or is this normal for this gun?
  14. It never hurts to get extra's just in case the dog eats one of them
  15. If you have a NJ FPID why not just bring a long gun with you and then take it home?
  16. I purchased the Ansac and it looks nice and works great. Looks very well built. Do people that shoot static steel typically get 5 speed loaders or would they use one and reload it at the start of each string (using a reloading block)?
  17. Will the Ansac loader fit in the Pelican Case #1040? http://www.4wheelguns.com/Pelican1040_60Round_Loading_Block_Storage.html The Ansac looks taller than the DS-10 that they show in the picture?
  18. I will be doing static steel so no reloads on the clock. The fact that Alec has started having problems after a couple of years is making me lean towards the Ansac. For plinking I really enjoy loading the cartridges by hand. Something very cool and serene about it. Thanks for the info and I will let you know what I finally do and how it works out.
  19. I want to purchase some speedloaders for a S&W 617 10 shot 22 revolver. I found three brands: DS-10 (there seem to be a few varieties) Ansac Speed Beez I would be interested in hearing the pro's and con's of each of them.
  20. Thanks to all for the feedback. I ended up getting the targets from GT Targets. I got a set of targets for the Steel Challenge 5 To Go set (4x10" and 1x12" plates). Karl is a great guy to work with and their targets are great. I have since used them with pistols and shotguns (the base should be staked if shooting slugs). No problems at all. The plates are tilted slightly downward and the ring is loud and clear. I also had no shipping charge as I picked them up at OBRPC at the June steel match. I also purchased a Caldwell 10" steel gong for rifle shooting at 100 yards. It disassembles and fits into a carrying case which looks like a rifle case. Easy assembly and disassembly. It is much more fun than checking a spotting scope.
  21. I am interested in a soft shooting semi-automatic shotgun for competitive shooting. Is there a noticeable difference in felt recoil between different models? I have read that the Remington Versa Max Competition Tactical is one of the softest shooting shotguns. Would it be noticeably softer than the Benelli M4 Tactical, Beretta 1301 Competition, FN SLP, or Mossberg 930 JM Pro?
  22. The Remington Versa Max Competition Tactical Shotgun has an 8+1 capacity. Does anyone have one that is NJ legal and what has to be done to make it NJ legal?
  23. What are the pro's and con's of the 21" vs 24" barrels for competition?
