  1. I was told that a Benelli Vinci would take months to get. I lucked out and bought a used one at Ramsey Outdoor that looks like its never been fired. Of course the price was only $100 less than a new one.
  2. I called SBPD and it is still open but not to the public.
  3. Does anyone know if the Saddle Brook Police Pistol Range on route 46 West is still open, and if so, if it is open to Saddle Brook residents?
  4. Someone I know would like to apply for a Firearms Purchaser Identification Card. Question number 26 on the application form is as follows: Have you ever been attended, treated or observed by any doctor or psychiatrist or at any hospital or mental institution on an inpatient or outpatient basis for any mental or psychiatric condition? If yes, give the name and location of the doctor, psychiatrist, hospital or institution and the date(s) of such occurrence. The applicant has been seen once a month by a psychiatrist and has taken anti-depressants for 15 years. He has never been institutionalized or hospitalized. His questions are: 1. Does "depression" constitute a mental or psychiatric condition? (I'm assuming it does). 2. Does "attended" mean that the person has been seen at a doctor's office? 3. What are the chances that the applicant will get an FID given the long history of successful treatment for depression?
  5. From what I understand, the part of an AR-15 that is considered the firearm is the lower receiver. That being said, it would seem to me like the upper is not a firearm in and of itself. So, can I purchase a complete upper receiver with a threaded muzzle break online and have it sent directly to a gunsmith in New Jersey for welding?
  6. I would also imagine that at some point folks have spent all they are willing to spend regardless of the inventory. A few people I know have told me they are "all set" on both firearms/ammo.
  7. Is it me or does it seem like some of the store shelves are slowly (very slowly) starting to have small amounts of inventory again?
  8. I thought about it, but would rather standardize on the ARs (with the 22LR having many interchangeable components with the AR-15 as well).
  9. Seven and eleven. They use their Ruger air rifle now, but that is the extent of their shooting experience.
  10. ...and by the way, I know I couldn't have picked a worse time to go on a firearms shopping spree. Hopefully the panic will settle down by the time my lower receiver is ready to ship in 3 months.
  11. I left out that the M&P15-22 is also to get my two younger sons involved in shooting. I guess over the short term they will wind up using it more than me.
  12. My FID was approved in early January and the list of spending (all new) is as follows: Beretta Px4 9mm (for home defense) Benelli Vinci 12ga (for clays and bird hunting) M&P15 Sporter 5.56 NATO (for SHTF type of scenario) M&P15-22LR (for general plinking and SHTF type of practicing at a fraction of the cost of ammo) AR-15 Stripped Lower Receiver (a pet project to help get me familiarize myself with the internals of an AR-15) So at what point does the spending stop?
  13. I made the trip out there yesterday. Ammo shelves, especially for hundguns was wiped clean. Handgun, long gun and shotgun inventory was pretty good, assault weapons were nowhere to be found except for one PTR91 with the butt cap. They were out of the rifle I was wanting to see (Savage 10) but I was going to make the trip anyway. Most annoying part of the day was seeing some of the used rifles marked at close to their new MSRP prices. As usual, the kids had a good time.
  14. I also think there are a record number of people who have recently gotten their FIDs (like me) and who know very little about the mechanics of firearms or of their safety. If my LEO friend hadn't taken me shooting a few days ago, I would have done a lot of safety no-nos on my own, even though I had shot many, many years ago.
  15. I am planning a Cabela's trip at the end of January to check out some long rifles (Remington & Savage). Does anyone know if their long rifle stock is as low as the ones in New Jersey gun stores? I'd hate to make that ride and come home empty handed.
