  1. good call.. but it wouldnt be HP, just FMJ.. thanks!
  2. what are the laws of bringing ammo INTO New Jersey from NY? (lets say buying it during a family visit and driving it back into NJ).. Legal or No Legal?
  3. fair enough, thanks for the replies.. and its true, its a sad state of affairs, but if you ready my thread about the FFL Transfer Problem, you would understand my hesitation.. (and no, no one is a prohibited person between us)
  4. OK, so i was wondering. I found out on this forum before that I could never transport a pistol that belongs to my wife if she was not with me. Obviously the converse it true (she could never transport one that belonged to me by herself either).. The question is, are we technically allowed to shoot each others pistols if we are together, like at a range? It maybe a really stupid question, but try to remember, im still kind of new at this while thing (and we dont want to get in trouble for anything)..
  5. ive heard that some ranges do not allow reloads to be fired there.. anyone find this to be true?
  6. I was with my wife the time before (the previous weekend) when she filled out the initial transfer/NICS paperwork as well (standing right next to her). I think what threw them off was the fact that I answered his question when he asked what was being picked up.. i said "we are picking up a maverick 88 shotgun".. (technically, "we" were both there).. the use of the pronoun "we" was what drove it I think.. I didnt think that would cause a red flag, but apparently it did for some reason.. maybe it was just the fact that I answered him instead of my wife answering him.. the guy admitted to me he was not in a good mood that day, and we decided (SS and myself, I called them on Sunday) it was best for them to ship it back to the seller (who has already been contacted and is initiating the return with them).. they were fine with that.. as remixer said, we (there's that damn word again, "we") were only there to pick it up and pay them... honestly, if i would have known that the use of the word "we" or "our" was going to cause such an issue, I would have kept my arse in the car.. as i said before, learning experience apparently...
  7. well done Randolph.. I put mine in the same day (1/14) and i think my references just got their letters this weekend, so I would expect another 2 weeks or so.. as to which handgun.. thats a very personal preference (as diamond said, by the end you will get every gun out there as a recommendation).. most will put Sig or Glock or S&W.. what are you looking for? Semi-Auto? Revolver? i know that my first planned purchase once iI get mine will be to scour the earth for the CZ 75B Matte Stainless..(or Hi-Polish).. but that's just me. BlueLine's suggestion is actually a pretty good one (although all that stuff costs money).. The Sig P226 is the one he's talking about.. (I think) http://www.sigsauer....tails/p226.aspx
  8. my references just got their letters on Friday (at least one of them did) and returned it. So hopefully that is the last step of the process and its a short waiting time from here on.. Howell isnt known for taking an exorbitant amount of time apparently, so hopefully i get it in the next couple weeks. Been 4 weeks as of tomorrow
  9. we're just going to have SS send it back to the online vendor (I spoke to them today and everyone agreed that it was best to do that). we will deal directly with the seller about the return and take it from there.
  10. Honestly, I sort of expect this to happen. If that is what happens, then hopefully SS will just send the gun back to the seller and we can be done with it for now. Its been a frustrating experience especially because we followed the rules (at least what we THOUGHT were the rules), but I suppose this might just end up being one of those "live and learn" situations. If it does go back to the seller, we'll just wait until my FID comes in before we bother with anything again.. Disappointing result it would be, but not the end of the world. We have had time to calm down about the situation (obviously everyone was pretty raw about this yesterday as it was a fresh situation), and whatever happens, we'll know better the next time.
  11. Wife paid for it, filled out paperwork, showed her fpid when filling out the paperwork and I'm not planning on touching it until I get my fpid.. If I had any inkling that they might have had a problem with me answering their question, I wouldn't have gone with her.. Simple as that Nothing getting resolved until she calls the sp on Monday then we'll see what happens..
  12. look, my wife is going to call the SP Monday, and maybe this will much ado about nothing in the end. I posted on here to ask opinions about the situation. I certainly didnt post anything on FB. I get that they are trying to cover their asses, but I am going to stop posting anything in here about this because apparently everything being said here is apparently being posted on FB and its not really worth it. If my wife gets resolution with the SP, then great. If not, then hopefully they will send the gun back to the seller and we'll call it a day and not get anything until I get my FPID.. (which is apparently the major road block)
  13. no, he specifically mentioned the NJ state police, which she contacted today and were told to call back on Monday during their normal business hours, which she will be doing. honestly, this all seems like its getting blown WAY out of proportion..
  14. wow, i didnt see that until now. I asked the gun community a question about a problem we had and that's the response from this place? interesting. I still don't understand how this is considered a straw purchase simply because I answered his question to "what are you picking up?" and I answered that we were there to pick up a Maverick 88 Shotgun. Simply because i know OF the gun doesnt make it illegal. I never once spoke as if it were my weapon, because it is not. My wife wants to learn to shoot a shotgun, and what better way than to legally purchase one? oh, and to their comment about "giving information on the shotgun", that is completely untrue other than I gave him the name of the product. I gave no information other than that. Also, I said BEFORE we came into the store that the firearm was my wife's when he called us in. (I specifically said "its my wife's"). disappointing that they felt they had to bring this into fb.. bummer
  15. thinking about the M&P 22 once my P2P's come in as the "second" gun... (the CZ 75B Matte SS being the "first".. assuming i can find one when the time comes)
  16. yup, 30 days.. hope its resolved one way or the other well before that..
  17. i thought OGAM only referred to handguns, not to long guns (?) oops, j0n beat me to it...
  18. oh, im not threatening anything against SS at this point.. the first step is to talk to the SP Firearms Unit and have my wife explain the situation.. at that point, hopefully the SP contacts SS to allow them to complete the transfer.. if they do not, then we will contact the online retailer that we purchased the gun from and see if they will accept the return from SS and then send it to a different FFL (or if not, at least refund our money).. but NJSP is the first step.. hopefully thats the only step we will need..
  19. we didnt pay for ANYTHING yet, that's what we were going in for.. give them their money for the transfer and the NICS check and take it home.. they didnt have us pay at the time we submitted the paperwork.. but they submitted it and it came back without a problem.. to be fair, their delayed opening was the reason he told us to come back at noon (glad we called instead because we would have wasted yet another trip),, on a completely separate note, i just got a note from one of my references that they just returned my reference questionnaire to my PD... at least THAT'S still moving along..
  20. im wondering if they (SS) even cares anymore... you know, i have only been there a couple times, and hadnt had a bad experience with them... until now..
  21. if you "purchase" the gun from your brother, and he sends it to an FFL and you have a P2P for it, then that wouldnt be a straw purchase either if i get the gist of the law... (?)
  22. well, the "most likely" is just me not yet burning bridges until AFTER we pick up the gun. but im sure both the wife and myself will have no uncertain things to say once its finally concluded.. i might check out L&H when im in the market for my own firearms (once i get my permits, etc)
  23. i think so too.. and 5 of them were there listening to it. I guess we'll have to see what the SP says on Monday.. i feel bad because she was looking forward to picking it up this weekend..
  24. well, went to Lakewood police HQ, like the woman on the phone told us to do, and we told our story, and they couldn't believe that SS wouldnt release the gun to my wife.. didnt understand it at all, and couldnt really see how SS considered it a straw purchase.. that said, they said they couldnt really do anything because its the SP that needs to handle the situation.. (Lakewood police were certainly nice enough and were joking around with us when we were explaining it, but ultimately not all that helpful).. but at least we've made contact with our own PD (Howell) and the Lakewood PD and she will call the state PD on monday to try to get this mess straightened out. I cant believe for the life of me what a f*ing mess this is. literally has my wife in angered tears, talking about how she follows all the laws and rules only to get slapped down, etc..
