  1. The AWB and the Magazine Capacity BILLS have been tabled. However, the possibility remains that they can be added on as AMENDMENTS to bills that likely will get passed (Universal Background Checks, etc.). Of course, we're in the NJ. So we're still in hot water. But it's good to know the chances of something Federal happening have diminished.
  2. Were you shooting a Sig P220 or a Sig 1911? If it was the P220, I recommend trying a Sig P226 in 9mm before you make any decisions. AFAIK, the P226 is based on the P220, so the weight/feel/look should be very similar. The P226 was one of the first 9MMs I ever shot and it was my first purchase ~2 weeks ago. The P226 has barrel exchange kits, so I can run .40 S&W, .357 SIG, & .22LR. Best part? The barrel exchange kits do not require pistol purchase permits! So with the P226 (or 229), you're essentially getting 4 handguns out of 1 permit! Even if you choose another platform, I'd highly recommend looking to see if that handgun has a .22LR conversion kit. This is an inexpensive way to practice your fundamentals on the same platform that you'll be shooting centerfire cartridges from.
  3. AR15 TekMat? Nice. My Sig P226 mat is very useful for a newbie like me haha.
  4. Hi folks, I just received my FID card and PPPs yesterday. I've been to RTSP and a few other ranges several times trying out various firearms while deciding what I'd like to make with my first few purchases. I've settled on a Sig P226. I would like it to be chambered in 9MM and .22LR. I understand that with the various barrel change kits that this is possible and can be achieved in 2 ways. 1) Purchase a 226 in 9MM and then purchase the .22LR conversion kit (http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/04/foghorn/gear-review-sig-sauer-22lr-p226-conversion-kit/) 2) Purchase a 226 classic .22lr and then buy a 9MM X-change kit (per Sig's site) What route do you recommend? Why? Being new to firearms world, I would like to draw on your experience to understand if one route is better than the other (quality of materials, ease of attainment, etc.). Thanks for your input!
  5. 1. Application type (FID/permit w/ existing FID). FID and 2 PP 2. Police Department where you applied. Clifton PD 3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD. Detective Cusack & Kathy (Records/Admin? did not catch her title) 4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit. Applied November 19th & received FID & Permits February 19th: exactly 3 months 5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form). Standard 6. Notes - anything pertaining to the application process (unforeseen difficulties, chief of police calling your home, you hiring an attorney, etc.). Detective Cusack was very friendly and explained up front to expect at least a 3 month wait due to the bump in applications post election. I called February 5th & left a voicemail inquiring about the status of my application (if my references had been received, fingerprints had come in, etc.), but I did receive a response. 2 weeks later, at exactly the 3 month point, I received a call from Kathy who informed me everything was ready and was more than willing to answer my questions.
