  1. Don't quite understand your question. Dry fire training does not use ammunition; you actuate the trigger on an empty chamber, snap cap or dummy round. Blue guns, as manufactured by Glock for example, are made to be used with special training cartridges, such as Simunition FX marking cartridges, which launch projectiles filled with a colored liquid.
  2. "I don't know how old you are, but you may not remember this. Many years ago there was a brand of ammunition called "Black Talon" which was coated with a special kid of polymer that was designed to protect the rifling of the gun. The bullet was one of the first "hollow points." I've been enjoying senior discounts for quite some time now, and the Black Talon was far from being one of the first. I don't know how old you are, but I remember Super Vel ammo from the early 1970's! And I remember NJ's hollow point restriction on the books when I moved to NJ in the early 1980's. Finally, not to sound ungrateful, but I'm very aware of all the ammo options out there; I've been posting just to ask if there's been any activism with regard to this silly ban which unfortunately has got some people into some serious legal trouble.
  3. Yes, I've heard the affirmative defense explanation and the "brotherhood" concept is not embraced by everyone. Just pointing out the utter BS! And of course, it's much worse for people with no prior LEO service.
  4. And with LEOSA, retired LEOs shouldn't even need a permit; just a department RETIRED photo ID and once yearly qual card!
  5. "if you do carry HP's as a retiree you are subject to being arrested." Yes, and who wants to be arrested? Is it worth it; even if you're right and they're wrong; and the charges are ultimately dismissed? I don' t think so. Just carry the most effective non-hollow-point ammo that you can find.
  6. mcbethr, You seem to know some history on NJ's firearms laws. Would you happen to know the history and/or reasoning behind the hollow point ammunition special mention? Thanks
  7. I'm new to the forum, and reluctant to get into my personal story. I'll just say that I have a lot of experience with firearms. Please tell me if it's not the case, but I believe that New Jersey is the only state that puts hollow point ammo in a "special" category. Again, does anybody know of any past or present grassroots efforts to get this changed? Thanks
  8. Well, here's the law re: in your home: http://lawofselfdefense.com/jury_instruction/nj-2c3-4c-justification-use-of-force-upon-an-intruder-n-j-s-a/
  9. P.S. I haven't heard any rumors; but the HP prohibition never made any sense to me whatsoever. You have the right to defend yourself and if your possession or carrying of the weapon is legal at that time and place, why should the most effective and safest ammunition be prohibited? Isn't it time for at least this part of the law to be changed?
  10. I'm talking about carrying it for defense, as a CCW permit holder.
  11. Anybody aware of any action to repeal NJ's ban on the carrying of hollow point ammunition?
