Yes we are shipping with A2 birdcages. For a couple reasons. It's an effective Muzzel device. No one in NJ ever was allowed to have them and now you can and they are cost effective so you can swap it out to whatever cool flash hider you like...

What muzzle device will the 9mm  SBF have?

This is verbatim what the State police wrote us in email format. We have requested a formal letter from NJSP.

    FROM NJSP:

FIrearm must have an overall length of more than 26 inches with the pistol brace collapsed.

If NJSP clarifies that you can measure with the brace extended how much shorter can you go on the barrel?

When will the 9mm version be available?

Nothing against short tubes in 556 but I think these will be a home run in a pistol caliber as you gain nothing by going to 16" on 9mm.

    It's coming.

This is why people can't have nice things.  I am saying this will be done win under 12 months.

    +100

    without a doubt.

Ok, so I stayed out of this for a while but have been on the phone with a few manufacturers and others in the industry who are in direct contact with NJSP and have experience with this elsewhere.  I have not contacted NJSP myself.

I think this is going to boil down to whether you are going to be right or effective.

Yes, you can build your own, BUT you should expect to get hassled and likely charged if you do something else stupid.

As per others, NJSP's full intention is that they do not want people building their own and are working on a letter for this.

Let's be honest here, THIS IS A LOOPHOLE, expect and treat it as one that can close at any moment and be ready to defend it to the letter of the law, including if need be in court.

This is why for 99% of gun owners and folks here on the forum, if you want this... go buy one and carry a copy of the NJSP letter in the gun case because you will be pulling it out, especially if it is at places like Ford Dix/Range 14.

And NJSP full expects numerous people who build their own, to get arrested for not following the definition to the letter of the law on such things as OAL, type of foregrip, etc.

That is of course until the AG decides he wants to focus on these and will be going to change the definition to include these firearms.

So legal to build your own?  Yes.  Would I?  Yes... in PA. lol, no way in hell am I bringing it to NJ.  I will confidently transport and shoot a Modern Materiels or a Dark Storm Industries rifle though with a copy of the letter in the case.  Having something on NJSP letterhead that says it is okay will improve your lifespan versus trying to argue how your built firearm complies with the letter of the law.

I have no doubt they will try to close this loophole at some point but look at California, they have tried to ban AR's for 30 years and the manufacturers keep finding loopholes.

That all being said, I’m going to try to link up with Joe from Modern Materiel sometime that week I get back up to NJ to check out their SBF. I do want to get the Banshee, but I can push that out until we switch over to Glocks (main reason it will be a truck gun... but I’ll toss my .40 SUB-2000 in as a truck gun). But I really don’t see too many short barrel firearm ARs out there. Guess most people just go to AR pistols.

I'm thinking about the Banshee as well and it would be a simple thing for CMMG to build (for the NJ market) some of the 9mm models with a slightly longer barrel (the current ones have an 8" tube)  or a permanently attached longish fh plus the all important vfg to get to the 26" OAL.

The main advantage over the Modern Materiel 9mm firearm would be the radial delayed blowback of the Banshee rather than the straight blowback of the MM.

Spend your money however you want. I’d put my MCARBOed SUB-2000 up against most other pistol caliber carbines... and would feel confident with it.

Even the stock SUB-2000s have enough rounds through them to prove they are fine. You can call it what you want, but I do not see any other 16” carbines coming in that weight, much less be able to fold in half. Some of KelTec’s firearms have teething issues, but most get squared away. But the thinking outside the box is what a lot of buyers are drawn to.

That all being said, think I narrowed down on the firearm I mentioned earlier...

    https://www.cmmginc.com/product/pistol-banshee-200-mkgs-9mm/

Still getting that PTR 9CT... but I like what I’ve been hearing about with the Banshee. And since 9mm Glock magazines will be abundant in the next year or so, it will be a good buy.

Interesting. That Banshee is 24.4" inches "with the brace collapsed".  With the right type of flashider welded on and a VFG it would seem to qualify as a NJ legal non NFA firearm.

Not sure, one of my friends in CA said it was a few years ago, my guess is 2016 when they went nuts with their AWB.

currently in CA you can buy a single shot-drop top AR pistol and convert it to semi auto on your own accord....again not 100% certain this is the law.

Even now in 2019 you can still get around some of the oppressive CA laws.

    Behold CA legal AR pistol:

A flash hider will do nothing to make it quieter.  The flash from a 9mm in a 16" barrel is very small and just about non-existent from most 9mm loads.  Almost none from a subsonic round.  Most comps make it louder IMO.

Most comps do make it louder but this is a linear comp so the objective is different.

    https://www.kawvalleyprecision.com/KVP-Linear-Comps-s/100.htm

"The KVP linear comp, collects and redirects muzzle gases away from the shooter. This redirection helps reduce the perceived decibels the shooter experiences at his or her ear. By pushing excessive noise and concussion downrange, not only will the shooter experience a much softer shooting experience, bystanders will also benefit from the redirection of the muzzle gasses."

Nick, didn't you shoot mine suppressed?!?!?!?!  Or watch the video?

Yes, it is threaded.  There IS a non-threaded version for Commiefornia too though.

Honestly though, don't see the point of a comp on this or a flash hider.   Recoil is light as it is and the gun is heavy enough.

I agree as to recoil being light but I wanted to see how quiet I can get it without having access to a suppressor since the linear comp is supposed to redirect the blast towards the target and away from the shooter.

In addition to the Fiocchi 158 grain I'm also going to test it with some 165 grain subsonic LAX ammo.

    Great video by the way.

Legal but you would have to get the barrel threaded.  None of the models come threaded from the factory from what it looks like.

Yes mine is threaded from the factory.  Ramsey's carries both the threaded and the non-threaded models, the latter for NY buyers.

Wait for someone to make a brace for it...

Even funner if it is a folding brace. Got to love a firearm like that which isn’t applicable to NJ assault weapon regulation.

If I can make time, I want to try and get my TAC-14 out to Salomon’s. Just a gun you don’t want to shoot within a booth. Still makes you smile.

There is already a brace for it.  I'm sure there will be several versions from different manufacturers in no time.  In many ways this makes even more sense than on the pump shockwave type guns as the benelli-like versamax gas system significantly reduces the felt recoil as compared to a pump.

I only have an 870 and a 590 both with 18.5 inch barrels, would those be acceptable at the clay range?

I have been wanting to take my 500 Persuader and replace plastic with wood to get this exact retro look. I wonder if Mossberg would sell me just the wood?

I would do this as well with my 590 except for the fact that I know the LOP would be too long.  The magpul stock fits me perfectly.
