1. Nice Shotgun! I put around 20 rounds through my Mossberg pump with the pistol grip and I must say that its not as uncontrollable as people have stated previously. I was shooting 00 Buck and I only stopped because ammo isn't cheap! I was able to place all my shots within the silhouette at 7-12 yards which is the distance I would be shooting at for protection anyway. If you need to shoot more than 20 rounds through a shotgun for home defense, then you have bigger problems than a pistol grip on a shotgun...
2. I agree with you 1000%!!! I also have no kids in the house...Just me and the wife for now and even though I live in a nice little town with a very low crime rate; its always better to be safe than sorry. Also, Imagine the disappointment of everyone (including yourself) when they find out that you were attacked in your own house, while your guns were in the next room over...
3. I would watch out for the wolf stuff. I know it shoots dirty and I have heard many complaints with it from failure to ejects to failure to fires, more often than any other ammo. Some people have used it with no problems, but I for one will avoid it. Do some research online and make your own judgment call. On a side note...Cabela's has Sellier and Bellot Shotgun Buckshots for $5 per pack of 10...Their shipping is VERY REASONABLE no matter how many you get...
4. I holster my M&P 40c sometimes in the home, but my shotgun is usually always within an acceptable distance...
5. Hello Everyone! Just thought I would share this new range that I found which is only about 30 mins from my house with excellent pricing on everything. It's called Delaware Valley Sports Center (http://www.delawarevalleysportscenter.com). It is close for the people in South Jersey (Burlington/Camden Counties) that don't want to spend a bunch on gas or ammo to have a good time shooting. I have had the most fun at DVSC since I started shooting a few months ago! We brought out the Mossberg, the P226 DAK, the M&P40c, and the Stag Arms AR-15 .223. I can't wait to go back. It's across the bridge in Philly and their ammo prices are very good. They will let you shoot your own ammo if you want to. Its $15 per person (no session time limit). Memberships are only $130 per year and $100 for renewals. You can holster the whole time you are on the property. They have a 10 lane 25 yard range and you can shoot anything you want (Rifles, Shotguns, Pistols). It was a Saturday (busiest day) and everyone was able to shoot as soon as they arrived with no wait time. It was a very good experience with a very nice owner and staff. The range is in the next room over, so you don't get the feeling that someone is constantly watching your every move. They have lots of in-stock supplies such as cleaning items, holsters, scopes, magazines (almost all types), and more. They have a good stock of guns for sale and guns for rent also. Overall I am very impressed with the place and I plan on getting a membership when I go back. If anyone is in the area and they would like to go shooting in South Jersey, let me know and I will be happy to meet up!
6. I finally went to the range yesterday and fired it for the first time. I used Winchester Military grade 00 Buckshot in 2 3/4" as well as the Law Enforcement Premium Federal 00 Buckshot in 2 3/4". I shot about 20 rounds in all. The Winchester 00 Buck had about a 6 inch spread at 7 yards while the Federal had only a 3 inch spread at the same distance. This was my first time shooting a shotgun so I didn't know that different brands would produce such different results. The gun never FTF or FTE in any way under any ammo. After the first shooting and its first "real" cleaning, the slide and pump action is much smoother and crispier than before. Even the shiny striker assembly is even shinier than when I first bought it and took the pics. My wrist is OK after shooting with the pistol grip only. The area between my thumb and index finger is a little tender this morning, but that's about it. It wasn't as bad as some make it out to be. I also got to shoot my friends Stag Arms AR-15 and P226 DAK along with my M&P40c. The whole day was the most fun I had since I started shooting. 7. I would just fill out the form (if you haven't already) and be done with it. Delran PD called my manager directly for verification! I have no problem with it since my Manager lives/works in Denver and he is from Little Rock, so he's been shooting since he was 5yrs old. If they are asking you to fill out a completely different form, then I would bet that they will definitely contact your employer and let them know you are applying for your FID...If you don't want your employer to know about your firearms, then you have to fight it. But if you don't mind your employer knowing, then just let it go.
8. The Smith and Wesson M&P series has a really good fit in the hand. I think you would be satisfied as they have the 3 different size back-straps to accommodate different hand sizes... I don't really have a favorite 9mm as there are many different pistols that are my favorites for different reasons.
9. Smith and Wesson M&P 45! http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/ ... sFirearm=Y
10. Thanks for the tips. I know NY is pretty strict, but more than likely it will be in Western PA somewhere. I think I would take long guns only, so I will try to get the hunting permit for PA before we go. Is it OK for non-residents to get a hunting license in another state?

Mossberg JIC

^^^^ No problem! I figured I owed you one because I have definitely gained knowledge from you here one way or another!
12. Just as the title says... I plan on doing some camping in the backwoods of Western PA or far Upstate NY...Am I allowed to bring firearms with me for protection while hiking and sleeping? Thanks.

Mossberg JIC

They are basically the same exact thing except the Mossberg Maverick's parts are machined in Mexico then shipped to Texas to be assembled by Mossberg. The Maverick has the safety near the trigger guard (pistol style) while the Mossberg 500 has the safety at the top of the housing. The Mossberg 500 also is pre-tapped for scopes and accessories at the top of the housing while the Maverick is not. The barrels and stocks are the same and parts are interchangeable. I just wanted to save a few bucks while getting essentially the same gun... Mossberg Maverick - $300 total price out the door (Including Mossberg 500 Heatshield and Pistol Grip) Mossberg Cruiser - $370 total price out the door (doesn't come with a rifled stock if you ever want to switch) - pictured below

Mossberg JIC

When I went to TJ Arms to pick up my Mossberg Maverick 88 about a week or so ago and Tony had yet another brand new JIC that he let me inspect. I always liked the look and feel of the JIC, so I ended up making mine look and feel more like the cruiser model 500 with the pistol grip and heat shield... Can't wait to go shoot it this week! 8-)
15. Here are a few upgrades to the Mossberg 88 since I purchased it... Mossberg 500 Heat Shield Mossberg carbon fiber Pistol Grip
16. My new pics (and upgrades) posted above! Enjoy!
17. WOW, thanks for the info! The trip is about an hour one-way for me too so I'm not going to spend two hours travel time plus an hour wait time to only shoot for an hour. They really need more ranges in my area. :x
18. Thanks! I just took the pics down, but I will take better pics and post them in this thread and the other thread when my pistol grip gets here in a couple of days....Quality of the original pics wasn't too great.
19. Thanks for all the information here. I have decided to purchase a pistol grip for my Mossberg Maverick Security so I can maneuver it through the house easier than with the standard stock. I feel that 6 rounds of 00 buck should be enough to stop an assailant or two in their tracks if I practice shooting with the pistol grip. My HD situations would only require a max range of about 25 feet; so I think the pistol grip will serve me well.
20. Sick Collection DA! I wasn't going to post mine, but I am very bored today and dreading going back to work tomorrow, so here's my guns! These are my first two guns ever and so far I am satisfied with my purchases. UPDATED NEW PICS And Items! Smith and Wesson M&P 40 Compact w/4 Mags and pinky extensions Mossberg Maverick 88 Security 18.5" Barrel with Mossberg Heat Shield and ATI Pistol grip That's it for now. Next on the list is the Walther P99 in 40 and a Stag Arms AR-15...
21. I finally purchased the Mossberg 12 gauge Maverick 88 Security with 18.5" barrel. The quality of this gun is excellent. I just picked it up from TJ Sporting Arms (Thanks Tony once again!) on Friday. I'll go to the Range to test it out sometime this week and update the post to let everyone know how it turned out. I also just ordered the pistol grip kit which I would like to get some practice with at the range because it would fit around the tight corners of my indoor space a bit easier. I am aware that the kick is going to be harder, but I purchased the gun for HD/close quarter encounters and its good to have another option to practice with. This is my first shotgun and even though I haven't shot it yet, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside while its sitting next to me...It feels like an ultimate protector!

Glock Video

I would buy a glock but it would be like number 4 on my list. That was an impressive video though. Nice post.
23. There are other options available. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ithaca_37 I know there are other options...a simple google search will produce good results; but I am a stubborn kind of guy and I always liked the Mossbergs, so I bought one. I have the feeling that my right eye will work just fine for HD after I get some good practice in (if sights are even going to be used in this type of close range scenario). I am sure when I get a rifle next, it will definitely be left handed.
24. What's funny is I always shot rifles and BB guns Lefty naturally since I was a youngin; not knowing why I did that all the time. I even play Billiards lefty since I was like 5 years old. I do everything else as a righty. I didn't find out why I was like this until I took the eye dominant test about two months ago and found I was left eye dominant. Now everything makes sense to me... But back to your comment...For me as a righty with left eye dominance, it feels (and always felt) PERFECT for me to pick up any long gun with my left hand on the trigger and my right hand for support...That's just how my body naturally did it...even though I learned how to play pool and shoot from righty teachers!
25. I am in the same situation! I couldn't find a Left handed Mossberg shotgun (don't know if they even make them), so I am just going to go with a right handed model and use it as I see fit. I am 20/20 in both eyes but I feel for Home defense at 20 yards or less, I should be pretty close to target, but for rifles with scopes and such for long range activities, I will have to go with a Lefty solution (i.e. Stag Arms AR-15 4L).
