  1. I'm also from Bloomfield and I got the same response arnold r got. I forget her name but this was from the same woman I"ve always dealt with there and she's always been pretty helpful. Still I thought this was cutting it kind of close so I asked what would happen if the chief or detective or whoever had to sign was off that day. She said that they just marked the existing permits renewed and it wouldn't be a problem. It turned out I didn't need a renewal so please let us know how it works out for you Ed
  2. I won't be there untill around 1:30-my son Zach said he'd be there by noon-he's a menber now so he can sign someone in
  3. My son and I plan to be there between sometime between one and two. He just joined today so if anyone needs a guest pass let me know and we'll meet you at the clubhouse. We'll have two shotguns and two throwers. We'll probably hit the 100 yard range after with my Mini 14 (complete with shell catcher this time) and a couple of boxes of slugs to try out in the new 18" HD barrel I just got for my Benelli
  4. I bought a Savage Stevens 300 bolt action 22lr for about $160. Excellent accuracy for the money. It comes with a seriously ugly grey plastic stock that you could probably paint but there are also quite a few after market options from companies like Boyds ands Richards. I believe Richards makes them in unfinished wood if you can't find one the right color. Any stock that will fit a Savage 93 or Mark 2 will fit the Stevens.
  5. Under the conditions you describe I don't think a trigger lock will help you. The case itself has to be locked but it doesn't have to be a hard case. If your soft case has a zipper pull with a hole in the end there might be a ring or something on the case you could secure it to with a cheap little lock and that would be ok. My soft rifle cases have dual zipper pulls and locking the two of them together prevents the case from being opened. I've heard of someone who didn't want to fuss with keys using ty-wraps.
  6. I was told-I think at a First Steps class at Guns For Hire but I'm not sure-that I can let my wife or anyone else use my guns at a range provided I stay there with them but not anywhere else including my house. That's one of the reasons why my wife has her own guns bought with permits in her name. Given the legal climate in this state we want any act of self-defense to be as "clean" as possible
  7. What innargent says above pretty much mirrors my thinking-he just says it better. I found this article on nj.com: http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2009/08/randolph_man_is_accused_of_kil.html The Daisy Powerline he used is a bb handgun. It dosen't say whether he had a permit or not but it seems like no firearms related charges were filed
  8. I'm not a lawyer but it's my understanding that if you purchase a gun legally in another state you don't need any permits to posess it in NJ. There are no laws governing interstate sales of bb guns so in PA they'll sell you one directly and the transaction is legal, no permits or FID required. You should keep in mind that once you're back in NJ you've got a firearm and all the laws apply. Transport it unloaded, locked in the trunk and be especially careful about supervising your son with it. A minor accident with a bb could get you into some major legal trouble.
  9. My wife and I are there almost every Monday morning (we work nights) and I can usually get there Wendsday or Thursday morning as well. I like the range and the people there but it's a small place and gets way too crowded on weekends. That's one reason we joined Cherry Ridge, to have a place to shoot on weekends. You should probably get there a little before 9 on Saturday if you don't want to wait in line.
  10. My son and I had a great time and are planning to be there next month so you can try it then. I should have an 18" HD barrel to break in by then as well. Sorry about the shells. I got hit in the face with one when my son was shooting so I know what you mean. When i went to sweep up I realized that most of the brass was 3 ports down. I know they make shell catchers for AR type rifles so I'll see if there's one avaliable for the Mini. Dave S-Thanks for the hand throwing lessons and for showing me that my new trap thrower can throw doubles.
  11. Rose There's really no need to bring the actual gun-the doc just needs to know the distance to the sights. Once you've got the gun this should't be hard to figure out; then it's just a matter of showing him where you need to focus. I did this during my last eye exam-holding out my arms like I was shooting and adding the length of the gun. I ended up with with progressive lenses-the strength changes gradually from top to bottom-I shoot several different size handguns and rifles and it's a matter of finding the area on the glasses that brings the front sight into focus
  12. I just picked up a couple boxes of shells and a case of White Flyer Biodegradable at the Bullet Hole so i guess I'mm all set. 67gtnut: I'll be happy to let you borrow my shotgun if you need to
  13. I'm planning to be there with my son-I'm a member of the range, he'll come as my guest. If UPS delivers ontime I'll bring a brand new Trius One Step thrower. I still need to get some clays. Someone mentioned Dick's. Is that the store in East Hannover? I've heard you can buy them at the range as well. This will be the maiden voyage of my Benelli Supernova. I'll also bring my Mini-14 and target frames if anyone wants to hit the rifle range as well.
  14. Welcome from a Bloomfield neighbor
  15. Let me put a different spin on this and see what everyone else thinks. Since last November I've purchased four handguns and two rifles. I'm thinking about a shotgun in the near future, a Ruger Mini-14 sometime down the road and some kind of revolver when i can get a permit. The problem is that sometimes late at night I start worrying that buying anymore guns so soon is going to get me on some "lone terrorist" watch list. This isn't going to stop me from buying what I want (my son says that if there is a list I'm probably already on it ) but I'm wondering if anyone else has felt this kind of paronoia.
