  1. Yeah, I read up about it a while back. You need pretty sophisticated cover, full camo, camo on the gun, decoys, calls, owls. Crows are extremely smart and have excellent eyesight.
  2. Have some class... protesting at a funeral is about as low as it gets.
  3. I wouldn't mind giving that a shot... the wife isn't too keen on hunting animals I don't intend on eating tho. Dang I gotta get my license...
  4. http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2010/0 ... car_i.html Finally... one of those damn butt litterers got theirs!!! YEEESSSS!!! Win for the good guys! Now, if only everyone that tossed butts out the window would have the car just burst into flames...
  5. I love the smell too...lol... just keep the chlorinated chems off your skin!
  6. pretty sweet... looks a little bulkier than the pen thingy tho. Its good cause it filters and purifies... and the filter is cleanable/reusable. I'd say 20oz is worth it to have drinking water whenever you run into a source of suspicious water.
  7. SF reminds me A LOT like Ithaca, NY. 10 square miles surrounded by reality. If you have never been you have to realize the kind of people there. Its like the most liberal of liberal population you will likely run into. I'm not surprised at all...
  8. I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback...basically a bigger more awesome Vizsla (JK!) . He does not bark unless something is wrong. Last week there was a plastic bag blowing around the back yard and he barked at it. He barks at the cats, wildlife, strange objects in the back yard. He's quiet in the house and doesn't bark at people on the street or at the door...so that may not be such a good thing as far as a watchdog goes. I trained him not to bark at people so I guess that's my fault. At least when he does bark I know with like 99% certainty something is up, versus something like a beagle that barks at the TV remote and the garbage can. He's def big and intimidating tho! Small dogs are great because they usually are more alert to their surroundings. They are yappy and annoying... so as long as you train them you're set. You can do this by rewarding and praising them for barking at things you want, and correcting and removing a toy/yourself from their immediate area when they bark at something that you do not want. This puts responsibility on you as the leader to investigate ANY barking. As soon as I hear Indy in the back barking, I'm out the door rain or shine to investigate. If its junk in the yard flyin in the wind I praise, treat, and remove the junk. If its a person he gets scolded, brought inside, and I leave him locked up in the kitchen alone for a few minutes so he knows I'm not happy with him The diesel generator is good alternative to gasoline. There are two trains of thought I think. You can go for a generator attached to your home gas supply, or a portable oil based generator. The home NG/LP generator is relatively permanent, always ready, low upkeep, and easily configured to be on an automatic transfer switch. Downside is if you lose NG supply its useless. If you have a large LP tank for your gas, then you are set tho! It will be very hard/impossible to refill in an emergency. You can get a portable diesel generator, but then you (probably) will have to wire things directly to it, its not going to be automatic, and have to store diesel fuel. They do make permanent standby diesel generators, but they are more expensive than NG/LP and you still have to maintain the fuel. Unless you have a diesel vehicle it'll be a PITFA to keep the diesel usable for long periods of time. You can have a local fuel oil company handle your standby generator fuel, do fuel sampling, etc, but it costs money and effort. Maybe a good solution is to have BOTH! Get a NG/LP Generator attached to your homes breaker for short term power outages, and get a cheap 3000-5000w portable diesel generator as a backup that can run on anything you can scrounge.
  9. You have LP or NG? Trade that sucker in for one that runs on your home gas supply!!
  10. Cops remains on active duty regardless of having a loaded weapon within reach of a child. Shes got a 3 and 2yr old in a room alone with her duty pistol. Its so flippin annoying! If that was my pistol I would be IN JAIL while the investigation took place. Heck, at least suspend them without pay. Even if they find the officer guilty of the crime, I'm sure the worst that will happen is termination.
  11. I'm guessing if you filter the water first to remove physical impurities, the UV lamp will kill off microorganisms. That's just one way to sterilize the water. You can build a fire and boil water...
  12. I'm sure she won't be disappointed in that case... unless all you have are hand cannons she cant use
  13. We definitely need a good solid rain, but we don't need 60mph sustained winds and flash flooding.
  14. LOL... that's like going to the grocery storm the day before a big storm hits. Everyone and their brother is out buying crap. Lol... snow shovels and snow blowers get sold out annually first big storm. Last year all sub pumps and generators were sold out when we had that crazy rain storm.
  15. I think everyone can afford at the very minumum A few gallons of water rotated out periodically Extra canned foods Manual can opener candles strike anywhere matches (a couple big boxes) Extra blankets and warm weather clothing crank flashlight crank radio That'll be enough to get you through like a week, even in the winter. I've actually saved two thanksgiving dinners in the last 5 years by being prepared for power outages.
  16. I got guns... im prepared to go to some unprepared person's house to steal all their stuff! BWAHAHAH!
  17. My uncle is a gunsmith in TN as his primary profession. I know he makes custom rifles and such... seems to make a good living. I actually decided recently I'd like to go down and visit his shop to check it out, and catch a weekend at Bristol for some Nascar action. He has a gun range on his property as well
  18. Its funny how someone's disaster is always someones elses goldmine...
  19. I think someone here was talking about hyperinflation yesterday or today. Don't think cause you have a few grand in the bank account that that means anything. If the US goes through hyperinflation you may, overnight, end up paying $100 for a gallon of water, $500 for a tank of gas, etc
  20. Lol... I have enough beer and wine in my place to keep me fat for like a YEAR! HAHA! Water is def the #1 essential commodity. If you can collect and purify it you are better off than hoarding mass amounts. You are right, you can never be too prepared. Being prepared costs money, so you come up with a budget and see what fits. If all you can afford is some gallon jugs of reserve water and a few cases of raimen that you rotate out with regular use... so be it. If you have 50 grand to spend on being prepared then get a backup generator, solar panels, water purification systems, food stores, medical supplies, radios, etc etc. Those with pets... don't forget them!! I keep 60lbs of dog food on hand and buy one as I use one.
  21. I get the regular old brown military MRE's... I actually like them to be honest...LOL! The only one that doesn't really set well is the egg quiche one. I rotate them out too... usually end up eating about a case every other year. I take them on drunken trips and stuff where an MRE sounds effin delicious at 3am after binge drinking all day. I save the coffee/drink mix, cracker, and jam for the morning to kill the hangover Shotgun is cheap insurance, IMHO. If you think people are scared of a pistol, they are terrified of a shotgun. Much harder to miss with a shotty As far as a generator is concerned... I'm debating on a cheap gasoline one, or a NG generator permanently attached to my house's NG supply. In most cases you'll always have NG delivery, and if you have an automatic transfer switch the thing turns on automatically. You only need around a 10-12kW generator to take the load off a 100A 120V panel. That's a much more useful item as it kicks on when you have short outages automatically... and you can put essential items on a 5 minute UPS system to keep them on (PCs, etc). We do the same thing at work, just on a larger scale with a 120kW CAT diesel generator and 36hrs of fuel. Lol... with those gas ones... just about the time you need a generator you'll realize you are out of gas, the stations are shut down or not accessible, or something else wacky happens (flooding, tree down in road, zombies blocking the way, etc)
