I think that the FFLs should get together and double their fees for F2F transfers.

With all these threads happening and so much confusion about all this, even though it's being sorted out, FFL's are GOING to start charging more since everyone's being a pain in the ass!

ok boys... lets not argue to fight about this...

we have more important things to worry about... Like democrats sending mail bombs to each other.

I'm satisfied with my transfer fee's.....they are fair and will not be doubling them :)

Steve tootin his own horn over here.. No complaints on my end...especially for 3+ items on one transfer :-)

Think July 1st was the last one you made.  Either that it was February 6th.

You're probably right. I've been over there a few times this year with some friends also but not in my favorite shooting months of Sept and Ouct though.

I'll have a bright pink camo 20ga bantam haha. I think there's 1 extension pad installed on the buttstock.

  3. Hey @JMich3 , thanks again for letting me shoot the VP9LE! Definitely the most comfortable handgun I've shot in a while! Muzzle barely moved, I was surprised for a lightweight polymer framed handgun. So after doing some research on it since it will most likely be using a permit soon, I found a new model just released last month.

The VP9B, which has a standard push-button mag release. The paddle, although takes some getting used to, didn't bother me much in yours but the fact that they released a button mag release may have me ordering a new one.

Damnnnnn, what an awesome pic! Thanks for that!

And what a fun night it was. Bunch of good people getting together to share laughs, conversation, and guns...hell yeah! Big thanks to Troy and anyone else involved in organizing it, RTSP ans CNJFO, you did a great job. It was nice seeing not only the usual faces but new ones as well!

I may see if my local indoor range would be open to doing something like this maybe in December or January. I feel like these meet ups are never often enough!

  5. Also, what are your opinions on 15rd mags right now? Only able to sell but not transport, use, or buy? Or are we good until December-something?

I ask because I thought it was the former but I was at one of my FFL's a couple weeks ago who I normally trust and he was very firm in saying 15rders are still good until a date in December that he couldn't remember.

    Stupid effing laws.

Remember back in like 2007 when people were saying this? The AR-15 was a $2,000 delicate toy, and the $350 AK imports we're being called cheap junk.

As the panic buying ended and economies of scale ramped up, new companies making AR-15 parts and rifles, the guys who had bought in at the two grand price point jealously thumbed their noses as the prices hit $1500, $1200, under 1k, when S&W and Ruger got in the market too and things started to dip under $800, and now here we are with $400 specials. And many of the same guys are still trashing those builds despite them being more than plenty for a day at the range or home defense.

Meanwhile with the AK, we saw sanctions on Russia stop the cheap Saiga $319 blank slates (oh how I miss those days) and then the VEPR. The import restrictions and lack of US tooling and mfgr let the AK somehow become the expensive toy.

The AK platform is all about reliability and durability at an inexpensive cost. This was a firearm designed in the Soviet Union for mass productions. I've changed the gas and sight blocks on AKs with a sledge hammer and a block of wood. I can convert a Saiga in my sleep. I do these things not because I'm some expert, it's because it really is that easy.

All it would take is a little supply and demand to make it worth it, and a company could certainly make money on a $400 AK. You can fold the receivers on a harbor freight press, it's not some special CNC mill. Just need some quality US barrel and trunions forged is the main obstacle.

If companies are making money on $400 ARs, which have more parts and require far more intricate tooling among much tighter tolerances, it can certainly be done with the much simpler AK.

Some good points but you lose it towards the end. 10 years ago when Romanian parts kits were $80, you could build an AK for $400 but considering part kit imports have substantially depleted due to numerous reasons, they are increasing in value every year. Plus most AK enthusiasts want imported AK's (hammer forged barrels, original receivers, etc). A good parts kit is $400 nowadays plus a barrel if not included, then labor on top of that...licensed builders have a hard time building and selling one under a grand. A diy builder on the other hand can produce one at a much lower price point considering labor is "free."

  7. Most people do not want to buy someone else's cobbled together parts build.

I'd sell the complete upper and lower's separately as well as the eotech, magnifier, sights, and mags.

After everything is said and done, you'll probably make back 60% of what you paid.

If you were to sell the rifle complete with everything except the eotech and magnifier, I'd add it all up and subtract 30%. So if it adds up to 3 grand, price it at $2k and go from there.

Totally agree. It was difficult enough to find a time when 2 parties could meet for a ftf. Now its gonna need to be at an FFL, during opening hours, when both ppl can meet and after a NICS check is done bc we all know how often it gets backlogged. And then what happens if the buyer sees the gun in hand then decides he's not interested? Who pays the NICS then? And then maybe that will deter buyers from doing a NICS in advance leading back to the orig problem of a NICS backlog!!!! Then what happens if a NICS is done on the spot and its backed up for days?!!!

I'd think if the buyer sees the gun and backs out, it should be when they first meet at the FFL and before a NICS check is ran. If NICS is ran and the buyer pulls out after, I'm not sure what happens then but I'm confident the buyer will have to pay for any fees.

The bigger issue I see with all of this and you touched a little on it is NICS is not an instant check like other states. So what happens if buyer and seller meet at an FFL at 3pm, NICS ran, and the FFL closes at 4pm with no update on the check? Does that mean both buyer and seller need to come back a separate day once NICS is passed? I mean how else would that work? Possibly the FFL could hold the gun I guess in which case only thr buyer would have to return to pick it up.

Technically, NICS cannot be ran in advance by the way. It must be entered once paperwork is filled out at the FFL.

  9. I don't see transfer costs changing. It's still time and paperwork to be filled out so I'm not sure why people expect it to be less.

Who pays the fees will probably depend on each individual transaction and how both seller and buyer work it out. I think splitting it 50/50 is fair but I think a lot of people will expect the buyer to eat the costs. I think it'll also depend on how the item is priced and if it's a good deal.

There's no doubt this law will be doing exactly what its intention is - decreasing ftf sales. Variables such as transfer fees, NICS checks and the slow system we have will cause tons of problems, as well as having to plan what FFL and where to meet up will all have a major effect on gun sales.
