  1. side note.. I make sure to always check right/left before I let loose.. that Miculek Brake is brutal on neighboring benches.. got some more ammo coming in.. (just ordered 300 more rounds). will be out again in a few weeks..
  2. @ Krdshrk.. I would... but considering I'm getting out to 200 yards in say an 8 x 11 pattern I can't ask for anything more with the MBUS as it sits.. a bad guy at 200 yards would be DEAD.. the 5" group @ 200 yards with the Bushnell 3MOA red-dot (6" at 200 yards).. is also good enough for me.. I have the Midwest Industries front-flip (for gas block) on on my DPMS 308.. works great.. the point on my 5.56 was to have a QUAD and MBUS setup on it.. with out going way over $100.. I came in at $120 for the QUAD and the MagPul set.. I could have gone MagPul rear for $55 and MI front for $80.. about $145 total.. but that would still leave me QUAD-less.. at 100 yards I am getting say 5" groups with the MBUS set.. so again the bad guy would be DOA.. Al
  3. Went to Range 14 for just 1 hour today.. wind was 6-10mph.. using a Caldwell front bag only.. with hand under the rifle HG... DPMS 16" Carbine.. ammo PMC Bronze 223 55gr FMJ.. Bushnell Trophy 1x32 T Dot with 3" DOT.. MagPul MBUS with just a 12" sight radius vs. the normal 14.5" + most AR's have. 100 yards with 'irons'. then 100 yards with Red Dot (which is 3moa dot size @ 100 yards) notice 14 shots.. then 100 yards with Red Dot with last 8 shots.. Then 200 yards with 'irons'. Then 200 yards with Red Dot (which is 6" at 200 yard distance).. Then 200 yards again with Red Dot (the ones NOT circled.. 5" group) Overall a good hour of fun.. rifle is squared up for the most part.. though maybe a hair to the LEFT.. Al
  4. Went shooting today and got a decent 50 yard group with just the MBUS sights.. 5/8" x 1 1/2" wide for the 1st 7 shots.. (out of 10 shot group) I was aiming for center of paper.. (left shot if 762x39 and low right is same from brother in law) Brass ammo runs fine thru her though the Wolf MC 223 was horrible with FTE's.. sold that and bought 400 more rounds of BRASS cased ammo.. shot 160 rounds last weekend (of brass) with 0 issues.. then shot another 160 today (brass) in about 1 1/2 hours.. overall HAPPY thus far..
  5. Busy this morning.. got there at 8:04am and I got table 13.. I got my extremely short 12" post-to-post MBUS sighted in at 50 yards.. I used a Caldwell FRONT green bag.. (I was aiming for the center of the 4 small targets) round on LEFT is from Saiga 762 from my brother-in-law.. and at 100 yards a decent 4" or so grouping.. just point and shooting.. (the higher shots above the circle, are from the red-dot as its sighted at 200 yards) Al
  6. I used Leroy back in 2002-2004.. good guy.. easy going.. and yes the basement has lots of oooh and ahhh stuff up in the beams.. Calling him 1st would be best I am sure.. he's right near the corner out there in Mercerville.. huge house and LONG driveway..
  7. I'm a member down at Range 14 in Burlington, NJ.. Its just off Cookstown-Brownsmills Road.. (3.4 miles down from the Cookstown Firehouse) GPS is 40.000991 -74.54566 homepage is: http://www.shootnj.com/ftdixdirect.html with a map on it.. if anyone wants to come out and join me just bring $3/hr (for a guest) and we can share a table (up to 4 people per table).. I'll be bringing out my 308 and 223 (neutered) AR's.. Bring out your TOYS and some ammo and have some early morning fun.. They open @ 8am but don't begin firing till 8:30 am.. They have 15 Rifle tables (200 yards max) with roofs and about 10 pistol tables with roofs.. They sell cardboard targets on wood posts for $3 each and 10 CLAYS for $1.. They do not sell ammo.. PM me if your coming out.. Al
  8. Anyone interested in meeting up and BS'ing.. I will be going THIS SATURDAY @ 8am.. back to Range 14.. further testing of the red dot at 100 & 200 yards and the MBUS setup on the DPMS 5.56.. also bringing the DPMS 308.. >>>>>>> Al
  9. simple.. competitive equals no one shooting at you... combat, almost everyone is.. >>>>>>> granted basic principles will allow muscle memory to develop.. (aka repetition).. got a simple thing.. point and unloaded pistol at a room door knob.. turn off the lights and point your unloaded pistol at the door knob... turn on the lights and see how close you are to it.. practice the same drawing from a holster.. practice in your immediate enviromental settings as they will be where you will more than likely need to use them 1st.. also, learn the sounds of your house at night and navigate with lights off.. learn by sound and distance (aka steps) where your doors (and knobs) are and such other objects... practice, practice, practice, = proficency.. Al
  10. changed address from Trenton to North Brunswick on FID card.. took about 4 months.. (this was 2001).. also.. after getting multiple pistol permits (in North Brunswick), if I waited more then 6 months between I was told I'd have to be reprinted and PAY again.. (damn games).. so I bought 6 guns in 4 months back in 2002.. $$$
  11. been saving my 223 brass also since I don't reload I figured I may be able to sell it.. can't run STEEL yet in my AR as I just got it and it didn't like the Wolf MC I had bought 500 rounds of.. managed to sell 457 rounds of the the Wolf MC 223 for $92 shipped.. (cost me $9 to ship).. but at least I recouped 90% of the funds.. gonna try some Silver Bear as some have had good luck with that vs. the straight steel casings.. for now I am stuck with BRASS only.. FWIW.. I used to order all my stuff from the SGuide.. (especially with FREE shipping &/or coupons ) at $5.50-$6.20/box in small qty for 223/5.56 in BRASS, I can't complain as my 308 ammo even with Steel (which it likes) is still over $0.42/round.. Post was mainly to point out how CTD apparantly has a system in place.. Al
  12. I like buying ammo every week.. as I shoot every other week and blow 200+ rounds a week. I have ADHD.. so patience to save for 1000 rounds is not really an option.. I was just letting everyone know to watch when they add stuff to there CTD cart and keep checking the shipping est.. Al
  13. All my ammo comes in from 1 box.. not 2.. still $12 for 1 box of ammo would be A**nine..
  14. Ok.. I was playing with pricing for 223 ammo for my AR.. I added 14 boxes of PMC Bronze for $5.55/box to the cart.. shipping was $18.. so then I added 1 box of Silver Bear to the mix to TRY 1 box thru my rifle maybe.. shipping went to $30.. so I subtracted 1 box of the PMC figuring that would make the weight difference.. NOPE.. still $30 shipping.. WTF!! I even tried 2 boxes and shipping was still $30.. I think CTD is charging more for the foreign ammo shipping.. they figure more people will by the CHEAP Russian ammo.. hence the UPCHARGE on the shipping.. I ended up ordering the PMC by itself for $0.34/round for 280 rounds.. which isn't bad for my small buy.. lowest other place for it is SGAmmo for $0.352/round for the same amount.. Go play with it and mix and match US and FOREIGN ammo and see what happens when you estimate the shipping on the cart page. **this has been a public service announcement.. ** Al
  15. Maybe pick up a DPMS Miculek Brake for $29 from CTD.. ($36 shipped).. Normally this is $45.. Its a 3 port design and worked well on my Saiga 308, DPMS 308, & now my DPMS 5.56. heres a pic showing 2 of the 3 ports (on each side) and my recent PIN for NJ.. then just cut off the old and put this one on and pin again.. (obviously you will have a smith do it or do it yourself at a friends in PA). (I have a HOW-TO in the welded brake post near the end)..
  16. Just pinned my AR brake for when I come into NJ.. I also used RED LOCTITE on the threads under the BRAKE.. here is a pic of the finished product.. Also after I pinned it, I covered the pinned area with QuickSteel for better looks than a rough weld spot.. quick coat of flat black on just the brake and voila'. (bottom is facing UP and Left) The trick when you pin like I did 3 posts up is to make sure you DON'T DRILL thru the barrel.. you just need to notch it for whatever 'pin' you choose to use to CATCH it.. Al
  17. I'm in also.. anywhere in central/lower NJ/PA is good for me.. Al
  18. My DPMS LR-308 which I got for Xmas for myself has so far ROCKED !!! >>>> I got about 500+ rounds thru her with 0 issues.. with both brass and steel. I saw this on sale while putzing on the Surplus Arms & Ammo (or Ammo & Arms).. I was debating between getting NONE & NONE from JSESurplus (they have a special for a middy for $525).. then I saw this and DPMS, 5.56 chamber, and figured OK.. course I had to get a Quad rail for it.. and I had to have an MBUS setup.. the Bushnell Tactical T-Dot Red Dot was a bonus in my mind. So far I got 160 rounds thru this in just 2 outings... so far, so good (with brass, didn't like steel).. Al
  19. Got my 2 D&H 10 round mags in (with Magpul followers).. all set for NJ range trips..
  20. This is still VERY decent customer service considering most places won't even deal with NJ (or other BAN states crapola).. IMHO.. Al
  21. @ AntZ.. there is no 'drop' adjustment with a red dot normally.. this one looks like a T pattern.. you set it at said distance.. 100 or 200 yards (or whatever).. and YOU raise the sight manually for the distance to shoot further out.. say its set at a 100 yard ZERO.. you raise it 3.3" to hit at 200 yards.. then 13.1" for 300 yards.. (these based on XM193 ammo for 223/5.56).. I'm about 2" high at 100 yard ZERO setting.. so I am good for shots out to say 250 yards or so.. just point & shoot.. Al
  22. Krd.. PM inbound.. for all other interested.. www.QualityTargets.Com (618)245-6515 give them a ring.. ask for Melissa.. stick with AR500 3/8" and you shoot be GTG with most rifle cals upto 308.. the 1/2" AR500 gets PRICEY.. $$$ again ask for 3/8".. thats what I got for 3" and only $5 each 2 months ago.. (these are not the AP36 you see selling on Ebay btw) hence you have to ask for AR500 in 3/8" 1/2" AR500 4" target Al
  23. i have the email for the 3" makers if you want.. there on a base.. they are $5/each min order of 3 .. shipping is $5.. total is $20.. PM me.. paint is knocked off.. thats it... with 308 FMJ ammo. Al
