  1. Felonies cover the gamut from cold blooded murder to stealing beer. But they do not typically give suspended sentences to murderers. I don't know him well, but I know that he has a good job and has raised two good kids. I am not going to condescend to him for being stupid in his youth.
  2. Dumb Russians. This is why no one should be allowed to touch any firearm while the range is green. The RSO (if there even was one) should be held accountable also.
  3. Thanks, everyone, for the advice. I did not see anyone bringing up constructive possession, so I'll presume that does not apply. I'll just talk to him and remind him that he is not allowed to touch anything. Don't you just love a government where you have to be so afraid of being charged with doing something wrong when you are doing nothing wrong. Tyranny!
  4. That's funny. :-D He's the father of one of my kid's friends. That is the extent of our relationship. But yes, if he were my friend, I would suggest that he is long overdue for expungement.
  5. That is what I was hoping. His conviction was the result of a plea agreement. Rather than going to trial and risking a prison sentence, he plead guilty and received a suspended sentence. This was more than 20 years ago. He has been an upstanding citizen ever since.
  6. I often take my sons' friends to the range and teach them to shoot. I have a standing rule, however, that their fathers must accompany them. One of my son's friends wants to come shooting with us, but I know his father is a prohibited person. Is it OK for this guy to accompany us to the range as long as he stays hands-off all guns and ammo? Or, does simple proximity make it a no-no? My gutt tells me this is a no-go situation.
  7. They simply need to enter "Not Provided" as the SSN and you are good to go.
  8. Either the mag was not properly inserted or the catch/release on the AK was busted. I would not recommend attempting. But that is still a funny clip.
  9. If the guns were left to you in your father-in-law's Will you do NOT need to transfer them. If the guns are being given to you as a gift, then you need to transfer them just like a sale. Assuming this is a gift, everything must go through a FFL because it is an interstate transfer. No need for permits for long guns. You can take possession of all of them in one transaction, assuming you already have a FPID. You will need a permit for each hand gun. You will also need to apply for an exception to the one-gun-a-month law.
  10. I was wondering if I was the only one who thought that was HOT!
  11. IMHO, I think they simply reassembled it and sent it back. Zero improvement. I suppose I could contact them and drive a more in-depth conversation. IMHO, I think the rail is defective.
  12. It sounded to me like you were suggesting CCW might create a situation that would put the actress at risk. If I misread your intent, you have my apologies. But, you post sure reads like that is your implication, and there is no basis for such a hypothesis.
  13. No offense, OP, but your logic has so many holes in it that you are embarrassing yourself. I can't wait for the disciplinarians to let you have it. The scenario you envision, where someone gets scared, draws their weapon, and proceeds to have a dramatic conversation only happens on TV. No responsible CCW licensee is going to draw their piece simply because they are shocked or excited.
  14. Thanks for the advice guys. Unfortunately, I own neither a drill press nor a tap set. I know a couple friends with the equipment and the skills. I'll have them give it a shot.
  15. I believe aluminum in tight contact with steel is no-go. But, I do like your thinking about bedding the barrel with something. I just can't think of something that will withstand the temperatures and not cause corrosion. Just looking for ideas to try before sending back to Spikes. Not happy with the idea of being without an AR for a month.
  16. What can I use to add friction between my SAR rail and Titanium barrelnut? Whenever I get my AR all hot and bothered over a couple hundred rounds, the SAR slips forward. I can shoot it right off the barrel nut after only around 300 rounds. First time it happened, I gave it a thorough degreasing and reassembled. Second time it happened, I did the same, but went overkill on the locktight. Third time it happened, I sent it back to Spikes. Fourth time it happened, I applied red locktight directly to the barrel nut. I put around 200 rounds through it this past weekend and it has already slipped half the way down the nut. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? ETA: a picture paints a thousand words.
  17. Poll Time: How long until MSNBC says it was an AR15?
  18. It is not a problem if you use a proper 3-finger pinch as taught today. I understand an overhand grasp is not correct form. I learned to shoot semiautos using my uncle's 1911 back in the 1970s when form and format were not so highly scrutinized. Just mentioning that muscle memory can be a bad thing sometimes.
  19. Dafuque did I just read?!?! Someone PLEASE tell me that was some a$$hole posting crazy sh!t just to get a reaction.
  20. Whenever I forget and grab the slide of my M9 using the same grip that I use on my 1911. I get the side of my palm pinched in the open slide. Hurts like a mo-fo.
  21. Facebook just slapped my wrist. I guess someone did not like the picture that I posted on Barack Obama's Facebook page.
  22. I just can't un-train myself. I keep handling my M9A1 like my 1911 & M&P and get bit by the open slide. Also, the safety works backward from what I am used to with frame-mounted safeties. Other than that, the gun feels great in the hand, shoots nice and is very accurate. I would recommend one to anyone considering a 9mm. The trigger beats Glock and S&W M&P, no contest.
  23. I carry a 4oz brass hammer and a couple punches in my range bag.
