  1. there's a couple members here that're great to deal with. actually, virtually every transaction i've had with members of these forums has been good. i've bought from blake, and jt face to face. great people. i think jt buys too.
  2. thanks guys.....so essentially, if i want to be able to have decent emergency comms, i need to get into ham..........
  3. what's the consensus on plain old cb radios?
  4. thanks guys for all the replies. it's given me things to think about. i'm mostly looking for portable, easily carried, should the poop ever really hit, that would allow me to contact help, and/or those i care about if necessary.......
  5. 122.8 if i recall....at least where i flew out of/ http://www.airnav.com/airport/N14 correction.....i was thinking unicom, as i rarely flew into controlled airspace.
  6. a note on this....when i used to be able to afford to fly a couple times a month, the cessnas i flew all had dual radios in the stacks. i always kept one of the radios tuned to 121.5.
  7. most of you are talking ham. what about lower power person to person comms in an emergency, such as these family service radios? i've read of some having a 30 mile range? any input?
  8. dude.....you need to stop holding back, and tell us whatcha really think, lololol
  9. also.....thanks all for the ideas/advice!! it is VERY much appreciated!!
  10. i truly believe(possibly in error) that we're over medicating ourselves as a society. pills, or shots or creams, or liquid drugs for nearly everything. itg's crazy. me personally? i can't stand taking ANYthing, not even ibuprophen for a headache. and i don't, unless it gets to the point that it's unbearable. the funny thing is that i hardly ever get sick from anything. yet i know people that get sick at the drop of a hat.
  11. highlighted part.........sometimes, i strongly suspect this.
  12. got a question on shelf life. i've heard conflicting answers. my understanding is that although a drug may be expired, it doesn't totally lose its ability to do its job, but rather that it isn't as potent as if it wasn't expired. is there truth to that?
  13. it may come to that, but of course we all hope that shtf neverhappens too
  14. he nailed it. this person thinks i'mparanoid, and that there will never ever be a need for them to have anything ahead. they think i'm nuts, keeping water and food stocked ahead(not enough i might add, but better than nothing). they will not talk to any of their docs about this. i don't want to do anything illegal......although i've considered "re-appropriating" 2-3 pills of each of their meds per month, then labeling them. this person means a lot to me, and as long as they're with me if the poop hits, i'll be able to protect/care for them, and keep them going for a bit at least. the only other place this person may be.......they'd be among the first to go, as the person they'd be with is an obamazombie.
  15. ok, here's an interesting one, that i don't think's been covered. suppose you have someone that you'd be responsible for, if the poop ever really did hit the rotating air moving device. said person is type2 diabetic. they don't need to shoot insulin, but they do need about 5 or 6 medications for the diabetes, and another issue. and i honestly think at least one med is to counter the side effects of one of the meds, but we don't need to go there. anyway, i can't legally get this persons prescriptions filled. they think i'm paranoid, and won't try to get a little ahead on them. so my questions: how do i get this person ahead on their meds? all pills, so the storage i think should be easy. if it's not easy storage, is there any way to preserve these stored meds? i don't/won't do anything illegal to get ahead on them....i just want this to be another step in being ready "just in case"
  16. i'm a bit late here. gotta give jack a BIG plus. i picked up one of the 3 saigas he still was able to get a week or two ago. if you want to deal with a GOOD HONEST man that'll go the extra for ya, then jack's worth the drive. thanks man!! i'm sure you'll be seeing me again. and again, lol
  17. so simply disabling, or locking the release mechanism wouldn't cut the ice?
  18. that was quick!! thanks man! it's unclear, yet clear at the same time, if that's the only reference to these things. it's unclear, as they don't specify just how to make it not be telescoping. it's also very clear, as it seems that by the words of the law, that is all that matters, regardless of how one gets there. that all said.....i wouldn't want to be the guy going through court to test that, lolol
  19. does anyone have the statute, or law, and/or wording concerning stocks?
  20. bumping an old thread here. sorry for that, but i'm looking for this kind of info, and figured better to be a necromonger, than to make another new thread about the same thing. anyway.....you pinned the friction lock? my stock is the magpul moe. it's for the release lever that moves the pin outta the detent on the buffer tube. if i were to simply pin that release lever? that would be legal? thanks!
  21. i'll get the rest of the info added. hadn't realized i didn't put it in here.......the courses are at shooters, and i think that the schedule's on their website. kharis sepvulda is the instructor...his website....... http://www.sepulvedainc.com/
  22. good to know. i can't really run ducting in my home, due to the age/design/retardeness of it. when i saw this kind of setup though, i figured it'd be a good, relatively inexpensive way for me to make the place more comfortable for mom. if it were for me, i'd just keep with window fans, as the heat doesn't bother me toooooo much.....but she can't take it, and i gotta do what i can to take care of her.
  23. don't sweat it dude!! it's still interesting reading....and you guys are putting a lot of information up there, which i REALLY appreciate.
  24. as it should be. you're the one taking the risk and responsibilities having your own business.
  25. the service was upgraded back when my grandparents were alive......about 25 years ago. i think it's a 110 amp service, but don't remember for sure. gonna hafta check that. also gonna hafta check to see if there's any free circuits. if not, i can always feed it off of my garage, which is fed directly through that panel though.....and i know there's free circuits in the garage.
