  1. Bunch of clowns. Maybe they are sending the completed checks back to the PD's by carrier pigeon. They would fit right in with the whole antiquated paper records system. LOL...
  2. I think NY is doing something like this already?? I bought a shotgun at Gander Mountain in Middletown, NY the other day...the clerk went in the back and was back in a few minutes to ring me up. I asked if he had time to call already?? He told me their NICS is done online now. Was pretty fast and easy, I hope something similar comes to NJ.
  3. Did he make any mention of FID renewals??? I think that's the bill we should worry about the most.
  4. All im saying is that the demographics of the country are changing and its going to be really difficult to get a "true conservative" elected as a result. Christie can win over the coveted Independent vote. Trust me the last thing i want to see is another democrat elected in 2016.
  5. I don't personally support this bill. I agree with you...Just saying if we can get away with just a relatively minor bill signed into law such as gun safety training, we'd be fortunate overall.
  6. Some of you guys will think Im nuts but I'm honestly hoping for a Christie nomination. I think a moderate such as himself who can win broad appeal among independants is our best chance of a republican president in 2016. Hence why I'm hoping for him to come out swinging and veto every bill that makes it through the senate. But that's probably a longshot.
  7. Depends on how much he wants to run for president in 2016. If he signs any of the bills into law, he would have quite an uphill battle to get the republican nomination. I'm hoping he only signs the "minor" ones, such as the bill requiring gun safety training for FID applicants, etc....in order to placate the mindless liberals and make it appear that he's doing "something".
  8. Either they overhaul the entire system in order to modernize and streamline it (which would cost $$$, I doubt the state has the money for this, so the cost would probably be passed onto us). Or they stick with the old system, which would then likely be completely overwhelmed by renewals on top of initial apps. Either way we are up shit's creek. This bill would be the last straw for me, if it passes I'm moving over the border and dealing with an hour long commute to work in NJ everyday.
  9. I did an ffl transfer through them recently. Nice guys and a great looking facility.
  10. One thing to keep in mind, if you try first without getting the DP charge expunged and you end up getting denied, you will have to answer "yes" to question 27 ( have you ever been denied before) in the future.. I agree maybe you should look into the "do it yourself" expungement to keep the cost down. And the above poster is correct in the fact that DUI is NOT considered a criminal offense in NJ but rather a motor vehicle offense. Good luck...
  11. Regarding the NICS wait, my LGS told me the other day that its up to 10 days and counting.
  12. Gus at Nutley PD just returned my call. He said that the checks have indeed been coming in and they are currently processing around letter "G" or so. He told me that my app should be on his desk likely by next week (letter H).
  13. I have a DUI from a decade ago. it did not prevent me from getting my FID about 5 years later.. So while it's not a deal breaker, essentially it's up to the chief's discretion. This means unfortunately there isnt a definite yes or no answer as to whether you'd get denied or not.
  14. I believe Mossberg already manufacturers its Maverick line and has their service center in Eagle Pass, Texas. It would be poetic justice if they would move their entire production and headquarters down there as well.
  15. View it as a "cash for clunkers" program for guns. Trade in your rusty old crap guns and use the money to buy a shiny new one!
  16. Cool thanks guys i was not aware of this. Hopefully it wont be needed.
  17. I, like many others in NJ, own a Marlin model 60. For those who don't know it's a 14 shot semi auto .22lr rifle with a tubular magazine. If the 10 round limit bill was signed into law, does anyone know if this type of gun would be affected? The NY safe act actually has enough sense to specifically exempt tubular magazine .22 rifles, but the NJ bills makes no mention. I wouldn't put it past these idiots in NJ to reclassify this innocuous .22 squirrel rifle as an evil, baby-killing assault rifle just because it has a 14 round capacity. Its probably my best shooting .22 so it would really suck to have to get rid of it in the event of a 10 round limit.
  18. Some of you guys are naive if you think the state is going to modernize the system to make it easier for us. If anything it will likely be in order to make a database of all gun owners and all gun purchases in the state....NOT to make our Iives easier. It's blatantly obvious they do not care about us. People have challanged the state for violating the 30 day law and the courts rule in favor of the state. I am one of lucky people who lives in Essex county who has been waiting 6 months for pistol permits, and some have been waiting even longer. I don't see the state's "too bad, tough shit" attitude toward gun owners changing just because the FID is getting a facelift. Also...where is the state going to get the money to equip every town PD and state police barracks with a photo ID maker? Wooly Bugger is right...instead of being complacent and accepting the report as "not so bad" we should be writing another round of letters to Christie and the senate on how we disagree with the report's stance on FID renewals/photo ID. Christie is a fiscal conservative so he might see sense about what that would cost the state and gun owners.
  19. Of course I'd rather live in PA. But I'd honestly take NY over NJ at this point, even with their stupid SAFE act and pistol permit system. At least I could own my manually operated long guns in peace without having an "ID card".
  20. I don't understand how you guys think its not so bad. It's horrible. FID renewals...need I say more. I would have gladly taken a 10 round magazine limit over FID renewals. Under the current system we have to wait at least 2-3 months or more to get an FID or P2P, or change address, etc. Imagine the delays if the already overburdened system is overwhelmed with renewals on top of initial apps. Either the process is now going to take YEARS instead of months, or the state is going to have to increase the workforce behind processing apps. Guess who is going to have to pay for this increase in personel? Us...the applicants, in the form of increased fees. I was NOT expecting to see the FID renewal as a recommendation. If this becomes law I am outta NJ. I'd rather live in NY at this point.
  21. Only current news article i could find about the upcoming senate vote on the gun bills. Still no word on an exact date...just "this spring". They mention Sweeny being in a tight spot coming from a progun district...he has stated that some bills will reach a senate vote but others will likely be amended or not brought to a vote altogether. Apparently there are 120 seats up for election this year. The article contains a pretty idiotic talking point from assemblyman greenwald unfortunately. http://m.phillyburbs.com/news/local/burlington_county_times_news/nj-gun-restrictions-await-action-by-senate/article_3d924309-aaea-5d02-950e-04b0149173db.html
  22. Just tried calling but couldnt get a hold of him, other detective told me he was busy at the moment. Left him a voicemail asking for an update on the situation. I'll keep you posted if I get a call back. If not i guess we are waiting at least another week. The saga continues....
  23. We can all see how effective the FID system has been on preventing gun crime in NJ. Thanks mr. Sills for making me have to endure enormous hassle and misery in order to exercise my constitutional right. Im sure criminals all over NJ are grateful for your efforts at keeping guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens.
  24. Still nothing...but tuesdays are Nutley's processing day so i have my fingers crossed. Will keep posted.
  25. Lol, I thought it was for real as well. Nothing from the NJ assembly would shock me at this point. At this rate we're lucky they haven't made a bill requiring us to wear a scarlet letter on our clothes.
