When we rank 2nd or 3rd in the most restrictive gun laws i cant help but laugh. NJ is the undisputed champion of persecuting lawful gun owners in my opinion.

Im beginning to agree with you KevD. I too find it highly suspicious that the timeframe they have given us coincides with around the same time the state senate will be voting on the new gun legislation. Anyone know if we would be "grandfathered" in since we applied already? (In the event of new FID requirements passing the senate/Christie's desk) -
So now It's becoming a slippery slope of longer and longer delays. Its starting to seem like there is a campaign against gun owners in NJ ever since Sandy Hook. The new proposed legislation, the unexplained NICS delays, and I'm one of the lucky Essex county residents who has been waiting since before hurricane sandy for pistol permits. Either we have the worst luck ever, or the state is intentionally throwing every roadblock and hurdle possible in front of us gun owners.
-
I too wonder if the state is doing this on purpose. It feels like they have created a defacto waiting period under the guise of "increased demand". ReloaderGuy is right, I don't see how there are enough gun shops/gun owners to justify the delays. We have one of the lowest gun ownership rates in the country, and a FID/permit system. How is it that states like Pennsylvania, a state with MUCH higher rate of firearm ownership than NJ, and where any non-prohibited person can walk into a gun shop and purchase a firearm in 15 minutes, have no such delays? I smell a rat. I know from now on all of my long gun purchases will be in PA. These friggin delays are for the birds.

Bought shotgun last week...tomorrow will be day 7 of waiting

Anyone have an update for today? Hoping Nancy has encouraging news for us on getting the ball rolling on the backlogged checks. I cant call from work unfortunatley. -

Shows haw full of crap the democrats are when they claim that the vast majority of the public supports their "common sense" legislation (aka attack on gun owner' civil rights). If that was the case then why are there people lining up to apply for FID/P2Ps, and gun dealer's shelves around the state (and the country for that matter) are practically empty. But then theyll claim its just the small minority of gun nuts panic buying. Our ranks are probably going to swell with new gun owners in the coming weeks/months -

I'm not getting my hopes up too much, after all the last 2 or 3 target dates they gave us were BS. Hopefully I'm wrong. -

I can see the headline now, "Gun nuts harrasing NJ county government over 'common sense' violations of their civil rights." -
Interesting thread over at newjerseyhunter about this issue. http://www.newjerseyhunter.com/forums/73-general-comments-information/144165-new-nics-jersey.html Apparently the state NICS phone service was discontinued, hence why they are only accepting faxes now. Nobody knows if/when it will ever go back to a phone system. So in essence, we now have a defacto waiting period in NJ until further notice. And supposedly a private company now does the NICS checks in NJ instead of the state police. It's starting to feel like the state is doing everything in its power to make gun owners completely miserable... so that we either give up and get rid of our guns, or move out of state. I just hope i can escape this communist dump someday.

Im giving up. Calling PD tuesday to cancel my 2 permits. I feel like this bs is gonna give me an aneurysm first if i dont. Besides i need to get a new apartment in the coming months and I can't be putting my life on hold waiting for the county to pull their heads out of their asses. -
The recent events have really gotten me fed up with this state. I am seriously considering trying to move to PA or Northern New England in the next few years. I have lived my entire live in NJ and Its a part of my identity, but I feel like its only a matter of time before things get way worse for gun owners here, even if we win this latest round. I will see how much of this new legislation passes before I fully commit to wanting to move, however. If the worst of the bills are squashed, I suppose I can probably continue to deal with our current system.
-
Hopefully they do them in the order they were received. Im hoping that those of us who applied back in Sept/Oct might not have too long of a wait. I guess getting the system restored was only half the battle.

Tried calling but couldn't get in touch with him. He may only be there one day a week (Tuesday) and only on certain hours. -
I think you hit the nail on the head. We should write letters like this to every republican in the senate and to Christie. The financial burden that an unnecessary overhaul of the FID system would put on the state would likely be unacceptable to many fiscal conservatives, regardless of their stance on guns.
-
Yeah...I wonder if they mean the records will be restored by then, or if the checks will actually start to be sent to our PD's on that date. Or are they just full of crap again.

I'm not sure what else we could possibly do at this point. The NRA doesn't seem to care, the State Police can't help, our local PDs seem sympathetic and are probably as frustrated as we are, but can't help either. -

How long are records kept?
410guy replied to rtquig's topic in Current New Jersey Gun Laws Discussion
They know we are gun owners because of our SBI number, but how would they know how many, and what kind? I *think* the state police gets a record of all HANDGUN transfers, but for long guns all you fill out besides the federal 4473 form is the "certificate of eligibility". You keep one copy and I think the dealer keeps the other copy on file. I am reasonably sure that the state doesn't have exact records of how many and what type of LONG GUNS we own, but i could be wrong. I am not a lawyer or expert. -

I know its like admitting they won, but I'm just tempted to wash my hands of this whole experience. But if our guy at the PD thinks it will only be a little longer, i will stick it out.
