NJ LAWMAKERS ANNOUNCE PLANS TO DESTROY RIGHT TO CARRY
Fring Spield replied to M1152's topic in Pending Legislation Discussion
Thankfully, after Bruen, the Presiding Officers intent to "provide perspective on the critical public health, safety and welfare issues that led the Legislature to enact Chapter 131.” means jack. The days of interest balancing are over in 2A issues. -

At least Sotomayor, who oversees the 2nd circuit, is not going to help. Lets see where it goes from here. -
NJ LAWMAKERS ANNOUNCE PLANS TO DESTROY RIGHT TO CARRY

The hearing wouldn't involve the NJ Legislature anyway. The relevant hearing would be in Federal District Court. -
NJ LAWMAKERS ANNOUNCE PLANS TO DESTROY RIGHT TO CARRY
Fring Spield replied to M1152's topic in Pending Legislation Discussion
It was galling to hear Brian Bergen chastised for not sticking to a discussion strictly about the bill, but Democrat reps were able to go all over the place, talking about (bogus) stats in other states after concealed carry laws were relaxed. -

I thought the Federal District Court already tried to enjoin parts of the CCIA a few weeks ago, but the 2nd Circuit Appeals Court reversed their decision? -
I'm sure that was a "mistake". One thing to watch for: The online form only asks for middle initial, while the multicopy paper permit you actually have in hand states "middle name". I had to have the clerk correct my form after a call to my FFL told me that it should be the middle name, not just initial.

CA 10-Round mag limit struck down
Fring Spield replied to voyager9's topic in National Gun Law Discussion
Can anyone clarify as to whether the CA District court judge had the latitude or jurisdiction to rule on the basic question of the constitutionality of the ban on mags >10 rds, or was he only ruling on the issue of invalidating the ballot initiative that reversed the grandfathering of possessing them? I'm not convinced that the news outlets understand the situation completely. -
CA 10-Round mag limit struck down

Are you sure about that? I thought the 3rd refused to hear it en banc because of being beholden to some precedent of a previous case ruling, and now it goes back down to the District Court to be heard on the merits. (The first round was an attempt to stay enforcement before the Dec 10 deadline). -
Only $50 For Handgun Purchase Permits

And another thought: with the 3rd circuit now flipped by Trump, the carry case and the 10 round mag limit may only need to get to the cirucit court and go no further. This is what happened in D.C. with the challenge to "justifiable need" to carry. It was overturned by the D.C. circuit and attorneys general from states like NJ and similarly minded begged D.C. to NOT appeal the decision.
