  1. Pits for me, I have not used them yet at CJRPC, have been on the GP/HP/Indoor ranges so far, one reason I joined was the coolness of having your own semi-private range in the pits. Also have no centerfire rifles anyways (yet, CMP will be awhile, I will probably get the 2x cans of .30-06 before the rifle). I will see you guys there tomorrow----
  2. Prolly between 12-1 PM-ish. Have a green Subaru Outback if I make it there before you. Will bring handguns (P226 & RIA 1911) & 10/22, scope is due in this week, so last time I will shoot with sights on it for awhile.
  3. Was gonna head over to CJRPC Monday afternoon sometime, if anyone else happens to be there. Want to try the pits out, they are all reserved for a steel plate match Sunday. If they are all occupied again Mon, will try outdoor pistol range.

    CMP Garand

http://www.thecmp.org/ Basically, need to fill out paperwork showing eligibility. Some people on the forum have got CMP Garands, I have just ordered mine, so it will be awhile.
  5. So what about scope rings? Any comments/sugestions/sources? I did finally get to shoot my new 10/22 last nite at BA, using bench rest and sitting was able to get decent groups after fiddling with sight picture for awhile. My eyes are going from age, probaby should have worn the glasses instead of contacts but was in a rush as usual. That little brass front sight is easy to lose. Anyway, the first upgrade will be a scope, of the WM price range for now, but was thinking of see-thru rings so the sights can still be used. Anyone have these vs. the low type of rings?
  6. Not to threadjack, but my wife has prior plans Tues, so I have the kids, I will go to BA Monday, probably late-ish, after 2000. Will attempt to sight in the new 10/22, if anyones there, I will wear my t-shirt
  7. Erm, still no working there, Mauser
  8. My cheap soft case ($10) has a nylon loop and a hole in the zipper handle, so I have a small combo lock that goes on it.
  9. The number on their sign was 732-961-7248. Since it's a biz and in big numbers on his sign, I don't think the guy will mind. Nothin on Google. I asked about his hours also yesterday and he said he would be open early during hunting season, as early as 6 maybe. Good place to get people stopping to hunt in the various places in the area too. Let me know if you talk to him, I forgot his name , I am terrible with that
  10. Jackson has CJRPC (THE Range as TA sez ), and close by is Ft. Dix Range 14 and Colliers Mills WMA, but I am not too sure about where & what at Colliers Mills. Or you can make new friends of someone in the western part of town that has a few acres, or better yet, buy some of the parcels I see for sale & invite the NJ Gun forums crowd over
  11. So I stopped in, and looked inside but didn't see anyone. called the number a little while later, and talked to the guy, he is not open yet, still working on finishing the interior, but will be open in the next couple weeks.
  12. Tiny, Yeah I am sure that figured in their biz plan Will stop on the way home & see if they are open or get the number from the sign & call it
  13. Tiny, No, it's further down just past the Indian Rock Campground, the road where you make a left to go to CJRPC.
  14. I was gonna lok at a BSA optics scope, they were rated pretty well in some reviews, and are in the $30-60 range for the low end, IIRC. Plus I can pose with my BSA scope on my old British bike
  15. Well, I drive to work every day, passing CJRPC and a little store at the corner of Stump Tavern Rd and W. Vets Hwy for the last 2 years since I moved to Jax. The little store was an antiques place that had closed down. Lately the intersection there was repaved and the little building was repainted & cleaned up, and I would see a car or two & people doing something or other there. I drive in the AM today as usual, and there is a brand new sign on top: Pinelands Sporting goods (or Sports something, had a truck on my tail & couldn't stop) New & Used Guns Bought & Sold. Right down the road from CJRPC and on the way to Dix. I will be driving by there later on my way home and will stop off, and see if they are open. Looks like I have lucked out with moving to a gun-friendly town, with the club and at least two or three shops, such as they may be, and the current Mayor is a CJRPC member, and the PD is easy to deal with on permits/FPID.
  16. http://www.app.com/article/20090826/NEW ... an+arsenal Sheesh, someone needs to check their panties over at APP. I wonder what the law is in that town for fire arms discharge?

    BA 082509

Ah well, to late to get over there, will try for Thurs or maybe next week....
  18. Alright, as required, here's a pic of the new addition. Nothing fancy (yet) just yer basic 10/22 to start with. Kind of like the clean slate thing. First will probably be an inexpensive scope, to see how well I adapt to that, then a more expensive one to be used on this and other long guns as I acquire them. Have also ordered a CMP M1, maybe have Santa coming down the chimney with a Garand for me! Also, one more, the m1895 Nagant my grandfather brought back from WW2, there is a story behind it, so its a family history piece. I have shot the thing several times and have a couple boxes ammo for it.

matt--- It's a parkerized finish, came that way. It looks like its two very diff colors in that pic, taken late last nite, poor lighting, but in real life its very close. The grips are also more brownish-red than rosewood red. I prefer a redder tint to the wood for this one, just personal prefernce, and wood on guns in general over anything synthetic. Good luck on your purchase, maybe everyone with with their 1911s all get together sometime for a 1911 shoot? Maybe Ft. Dix range, that'd be appropriate----

Thanks, TB. I will post a pic of my other "cheap" gun, the basic model 10/22 I got, in the Rimfire forum, this w/e, if I get the chance Will try to get to BA Tues nite & sight it in. Depends on worky-workload & homefront workload :|

Meh. I am happy with my RIA, YMMV, I discount the naysayers at this point. Buy what you like or can afford. Pix of the Filipina with her $19 mahogany (from PI, supposedly) grips from Brownell's. With her German-American sister who has a rubber fetish  Just back from CJRPC, gotta love that 24 hr range, I am severley time challenged lately. First time in 6 weeks have been able to shoot them much.
  22. Alright, all this stuff on 10/22s FORCED me to go out & buy one! Have been wanting a rimfire rifle fro practice & cost and ammo availability, and one I could build on eventually with the tons of accessories & whatnot available, picked it up tonite. Anyways, practiced taking apart & putting mag in & out, cycling bolt, played loading mag & whatnot. Can't wait to try her out--

+1 on RIA, for customer service. Arnel is their gunsmith, he is great, as is Ivan, the Armscor rep. Any old problem you have with it, they will fix, free. Mine was fixed by them, FTF issues, just had to ship to them. Now it eats ammo & sh1ts brass like a Canada goose, everything goes thru it, not a hiccup since I got it back. If I had $1500-$2K to spend I would sure go for a nicer 1911, but after Arnells fluff & buff, mine was as good as the higher priced Para GI, in feel, I thought. CSJ, did Arnel shine up the barrel where it shows in the ejection port? That seems to be what he is doing thes days in addition to the barrel throat & feed ramp
  24. CJRPC is in Jackson, like Mauser said you can come up CR539 (Pinehurst rd.) to CR 528 (NE-Lakewood rd.), make a right there at the Wawa, go east on 528, thru a blinky lite at Hawkin Rd, then some woods & swamp and a few houses till you get to Stump tavern rd & make a right. Its about a 1/2mile or so just at the top of a rise, yellow sign. Or if yer adventerous, you can go thu Colliers Mills WMA, a dirt road that is called High bridge road, that puts you on 571, just south of there Stump Tavern rd. starts
