Picked up the rest of my Dad's gun collection

I do need to address this. Tonight I'll have a chance to get some pictures. -
These were intended to go to me after he passed away in 2002, but at the time I was living in NYC, so I waited until I was settled in and owned my own house. Finally picked them up on Saturday and spent all day Sunday cleaning. Most were in fine shape and needed nothing other than a quick wipedown. Remington 700 ADL Synthetic in .270 with a 3-9x Weaver CV9 scope Winchester Model 70 Ranger in .270 with a jeweled bolt Winchester Model 120 Ranger 12ga pump w/ 28" vented barrel Ithaca Flues Field Grade side by side 12ga from 1915 Harrington & Richardson Topper 88 single shot .410 Savage Arms Revelation Model 135A tube feed semi .22lr with a Bear(?) 1.75-5x20 scope Remington Model 121 Fieldmaster pump action .22lr I also have his old steel cabinet, because mine was just about full. I was also able to find manuals and instructions on taking down everything except the Savage rimfire. Seems that the Revelation 135 is essentially the same as the Savage 187, but I just got exhausted trying to find clear instructions on how to remove the bolt. I was able to get the barreled action out of the stock and get the action spring and firing pin out, but I couldn't get the bolt to release from the back. If anyone has experience with one of those, I'd love some advice.

Here's how mine looks nowadays. Next up, a sling.

Average price for S&W M&P15ORC and what accessories??
StriderTB replied to FearThisInc's topic in AR Discussion
Those are pictures of my M&P. The first sight is a C-More Railway, which is still on there. Great sight, a new one should set you back anywhere between $200-250. Lots of counterfeits out there on ebay, so you're probably better off buying from a reputable shop. The second sight is a Konus SightPro MR, which wasn't particularly good. The rail mount was built in, and the tactical turrents made sighting in a snap, but the dot just wasn't bright enough for me. As for my M&P, I have the C-More still installed, along with a set of YHM QDS back up iron sights, a Daniel Defense Omega rail, and a Magpul MIAD grip. I picked mine up from TJ Sporting Arms. Can't go wrong. -
My new (to me) Remington 511 Scoremaster

Thanks for the extra info, I've been reading up over at rimfire central and got a .pdf of the field manual from one of their members. Spent the last three hours tearing down the bolt and really cleaning everything up. Lots of gunk on the firing pin and in the extractors. Getting the bolt sleeve back on and reinserting the sleeve pin was a bit of a pain in the a**, but everything's nice and smooth now. Removed the stock and cleaned up the hardware and the barrel with some 0000 steel wool and a little oil. I picked up a Birchwood Casey cold blue and stock refinishing kit, but that'll wait until I have room and time to strip and refinish the stock. I love the case hardened finish on the bolt and trigger. Oh, and I picked it up for $150, which seems to be middle of the road nowadays, some of the cheaper ones are a rougher, and some of the higher prices are a bit over the top. He also had a 510 on the rack for $140, but the 511 was in better shape. Can't wait to take it to the range. One last question... Under the rear leaf sight, the barrel is dovetailed. Is there a mount that I can use with that dovetail? The factory rear sight makes no use of it, it's just held in with two small screws. -Jim -
My new (to me) Remington 511 Scoremaster

Excellent, thanks for the information! Any idea what the number 3 stamp and the other mark in my 5th picture refer to? -
Just picked this up at Rutgers Gun and Boat center in Highland Park. I was looking for a bolt action rimfire to play with, and this one fits the bill, as it's the same exact model my Dad taught me to shoot on when I was a kid. It needs a serious cleaning, but the bore's shiny, the stock only has a few small scratches, and the bluing isn't so bad for a 60 year old gun. Speaking of the age of the gun, I looked up Remington date codes, and there's no VV listed. UU stands for 1949, but I haven't seen enough Remington date codes to know if they stamped the letter U as V. If anyone can shed some light on it, I'd appreciate it. Jim

No, I haven't messed with it yet. The bend in the trigger bar is the culprit, but I don't want to cheap out and just fold up some cardboard to fix it. I was thinking about taking a block of delrin and dremeling it to fit between the barrel and the trigger bar to keep it from flexing.

The one JonF tried is mine. I still have it, and I agree with what's been said above. It's a tack driver, it's fun to shoot, but the trigger is odd, and breaking it down to clean it is more annoying that it should be. I fed mine CCI Mini-Mags and would get a jam every other magazine. After I switched to American Eagle it ran without issue. Mine came with a 3-9x scope and a laser. -Jim

See you there, Jon.

I have one on my SP01, love it.
-
I picked up my SP01 Tactical with 15 round mags from Effinger's. I probably paid a bit more than I could have online, but they were the only place with one in stock, and I have patience issues.

I grew up in EB, but I'm glad I moved to Spotswood before I applied for my FID card and permits. 3 weeks and they were ready.

I bought the PAP when I was out looking for a PSL and couldn't find one at a normal price. I'll probably end up with another, since I like thumbhole stocks, and they're fun to shoot for cheap.
-
I actually don't know, since I never shot the PAP. I'm actually trading it for a PSL-54. I have used the Konus with my AR, and in full sun, the dot could be a little brighter. Otherwise it's fine.
-
The PAP sight is a Konus SightPro MR, and the AR sight is a C-More Railway. I haven't seen wood furniture for the PAP, but I've never really looked hard.
-
It's the polymer version. Works well enough but you have to be careful not to get it muddied up or you'll block the projected dot. Since my AR is primarily for target shooting it's not really an issue. The vert foregrip is a bit goofy, but I got it in a combo with the TLR-1 for a decent price. The TLR-1 is for my CZ75 SP-01.

I tacticooled up my M&P. New bits: Daniel Defense Omega rail Daniel Defense EZ carbine sling mount with QD YHM QDS flip up BUIS CMore Railway KZ vertical grip with light rail and handle storage

Bump! The 15 round MecGars are back on sale for $24.99
-
You could describe my rifle as "juicy".

The vendor at the show selling the PAP, Ed's Guns, also had steel PAP mags for $13 each. I picked up two to go with the plastic mag that came with the gun. Oh, and holy crap, EAA really packs their new guns with oil. It was damn near dripping when I took it out of the box.
