  1. It looks like the bill that would ban .50 cal has been amended. The amendments appear to do two things: 1. Narrowed to exclude muzzleloaders and shotguns. 2. Expanded to include copy's of existing .50 cal guns that can achieve a muzzel energy of 12,000 ft lbs, regardless of caliber. The Senate will likely be hearing this bill in the next few weeks. I am a bit flummoxed by this new provision. What, besides a rifle that can shoot the .50 BMG, is capable of achieving a muzzel energy of 12,000 ft lbs? What exactly are they going after? I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on this. http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2012/Bills/A4000/3659_R1.PDF Thanks.
  2. Some light reading... These are the supplemental briefs that the judges asked for. You'll definitely find the numbers interesting. 02272013 Supplemental Brief of NJ AG.pdf 03042013 Appellants Supplemental Brief.pdf
  3. If anyone is serious about running for office, pm me your email address and I will add you to a private fb page where we are sharing info. I will be posting some info about this in the near future.
  4. If Gura does say to do it, I'm fairly certain that he would want the justification letter to simply state "self-defense" or perhapse "defense of self and family" since that is the right that was declared in Heller and incorporated against the States in McDonald. Anything more would just provide a possible avenue to deny on a technicality.
  5. I'm not sure if Frank fully understood what was being asked. I will talk to him about it. I don't think what you are suggesting is necessary at this point, because of timing. The Piszczatoski case is about to be decided at the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. It appears to me, after listening to the oral arguments that the Court is going to rule that the 2A exists outside of the home and that Intermediate Scrutiny will apply. That being the case, the Court will have to decide if the "Justifiable Need" clause is a close fit with the objective of public safety. SAF has been asked by the court to provide historical information regarding the numbers of carry permits that have been issued in NJ in order to allow the Court to make that determination. We believe that they (SAF) are going to be able to get the historical information. Having said that, I think that SAF should at least be made aware that there is a group of people willing to apply and be denied if it will help. I'll let Frank know and he can pass that on. I, for one, am appreciative that there are so many here that are willing to step up. The word honor comes to mind and you guys have it.
  6. About 50 people showed up, which was double what we expected. If anyone else is interested and wants to be included in the communications, please email me.
  7. PARTIAL VICTORY, but it is not over. The Attorney General has agreed to re-write the OPRA exemption that exempts all Division of Law and Public Safety Standard Operating Procedures to make it more narrow in scope. They have requested, and we agreed to a 45 day stay to allow them to do that. However, they still have not agreed to release the guide and have once again changed their reason (because they can no longer rely on the exemption that they are now re-writing). I added the most recent court documents to the OP. Of course, just because they are re-writing the exemption, does not mean that the new version will be acceptable. We will see.
  8. You came to this forum looking for help for your friend, accepted that help, then you tell everyone that the very core purpose of this forum means absolutely nothing to you and consequently, neither do the people that tried to help you. Remarkable.
  9. This is the State Assembly - not a full time gig. Most in the Assembly have full time jobs. However, that is moot. I can't emphasize enough (saying this for everyone, not just you) - you don't have to win the election to make a difference. Winning is certainly the objective and would be great. But losing can have some benefits, too. Come to the meeting with an open mind. There will be a big "aha" moment.
  10. Just curious, is their something about being an leo that means you can't run? ASM is a Detective in JC and Cryan is an undersheriff, whatever that is.
  11. How about you? We are planning on doing the same class in Tom's River and possibly SJSC. If you can't make any of those I'll meet with you personally.
  12. We are going to have help from people that know what they are doing. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at what will be discussed.
  13. Connors is one of your ASM and is on the Law and Public Safety Committee. He was there during the hearing and voted yes on every bill.
  14. Lol. Don't rule yourself out so quickly. We are going to talk about strategy that can make a difference even if you do not get ellected. Also, even if you don't run, you can help get someone else on the ballot by learning how to help get some of the 100 signatures required on the petition. This is going to be a team effort and a long term strategy. Everyone can be part of it.
  15. We are putting together a series of meetings where we will develop a duplicatable process that will allow anyone to run for State Assembly. No party affiliation required to attend. You can run under any party you want to. We will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of running under either party or as an Independent in your district. The first meeting will discuss how to get on the ballot for the June primary. There is still time. We have until April 1st. The meeting is in Bellville this Thursday. http://nj2as.com/EVENTS?eventId=636790&EventViewMode=EventDetails I don't know about you, but hearing ASM Mainor say the words "you'll be able to testify... after we vote" and seeing 200 people locked out of the State House and 100 more shuttered in a spare room with no way to be heard was the last straw for me. My mission in life is now replacing every one of those sorry SOB's. It may take more than one election, but they all have to go. Hope to see you at the meeting. Please consider attending even if you don't want to run. Perhaps there will be someone from your district that you can help.
  16. I'm not sure I have the okay to explain why, but it is important and urgent. I forwarded the GAO report. Hopefully I will hear back tomorrow if that was adequate. Thanks for the quick response, and if anyone has any more information, please post it.
  17. I need to know the number of people that have acquired a Carry Permit in NJ and the source of the data. Can anyone provide that info?
  18. The most important thing is to be there. Numbers matter. Don't worry about what you are going to say. If you are not comfortable making an involved statement, just say "I oppose any further gun control." Take a look at what recently happened in MD. I found it inspiring. They are experiencing the same thing there and they are fighting just like we are. We can do this if we all participate. http://sassnet.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=200816
  19. Just heard from Frank. We are go for launch.
  20. I heard it more as an audible groan than a heckle. She deserved it in my opinion. She had just made a comment to the effect that the NRA was arming criminals and putting guns on the street. I think it was good for the Task Force to hear that her comment offended everyone. I would hate for them to think that we weren't offended.
