  1. Lunker, I dont' think the backstrap on the M&P changes the trigger reach much. From my observation, the interchangeable insert does not go all the way up to the beaver tail and that's where the web of the shooting hand rides and predominantly determines trigger reach. I'm curious to see how Burwell does it.. Maybe he changes the trigger/trigger bar so it breaks more forward.
  2. Does the Burwell job replace any parts or does he modify existing parts? Does it enhance reset? How much does it cost? I'm leaning towards the APEX kit since shipping the pistol both ways will be expensive on top of the trigger job itself. In a striker fired gun a DYI trigger job is not hard at all. How exactly is long reach mod done? The M&P has short trigger reach and the first joint of my index finger rests on the trigger. Although this is much better than the other way around, too long for a trigger reach.
  3. Thanks guys. I guess APEX it is. I'll get the comp kit + RAM. I'll play around with the springs, 2.5lb is a bit light for my taste without any safety but I'm sure if I stick with the stock striker spring and trigger return spring it won't be that light. Might as well polish the trigger bar while I have it out. This one was manufactured in nov/11.
  4. Picked up a barely used M&P 9 Pro. Fit and finish is defintely among one of the better Polymer handguns. It's not bad looking as well. The stock sights are also very good for target use and easy to pick up. The grip fits my hand well with the med insert and trigger reach is very nice. It's definitely more comfortable to hold compared to my G19. The shape of the grip on the M&P does not offer the same resistance to side to side motion of the muzzle due to the blockier profile of the Glock grip. For me holding the M&P does not lend as sturdy/solid of a grip as the G19. The P30 and PPQ both have more comfortable grips but at the same time offer more solid hold than the M&P. Now the trigger, they call this a competition trigger???!!!! The trigger on the Gen3 G19 and PPQ(both striker fired) is much nicer for me even straight out of box. The M&P trigger is definitely lighter than a service/carry pistol but it is really gritty, upon examination of how it works, it's the ramp/cam on the trigger bar engaging the firing pin block. They really need to smooth out the firing pin block and the ramp on the trigger bar from the factory for a competition pistol. Pulling the trigger through it's travel there are quite a few variations in weight and smoothness. The reset is no where as distinctive as any of the Glocks. The grittiness can be fixed by polishing the firing pin safety and the ramp on the trigger bar but the reset is a different story. Does anyone have experience with the APEX competition kit? Will it make a big difference to justify the $95 price tag. This gun should come with a much smoother trigger.
  5. Oh one more thing, it doesn't really need a lot of oil when you clean it. Avoid getting any oil into the firing pin channel when you clean the gun.
  6. The compact size Glocks are one of the best defensive guns made IMO. The trigger on the Gen 3 guns are sweet and you might want to get an extended slide release and mag release. Otherwise it's perfect.
  7. 1993. The coaches were Mr. Khurt and Mr. Flowers when I was there.
  8. I went to Kearny High and was on the rifle team for one season. It was definitely a lot of fun! Shooting those tiny targets at 50' was definitely a challenge! One of our instructors even brought in his Colt 1911 and muzzle loader to let us shoot! Last I heard the rifle team got cut a long time ago
  9. Of course it does not matter if you c0ck the hammer on a DA/SA. The entire argument about consistent trigger pull is about first shot upon unholstering the pistol. In the event a rapid first shot is required (I am assuming most people are smart enough to decock a DA/SA unless they are shooting at a range) then a consistent trigger pull is desired. Whether it's for carry or for matches.
  10. For the most part, DA/SA(ones with hammer) will have a cleaner and shorter SA pull. Most striker fired pistols have consistent trigger pull. Exceptions are HK P7, Walther P99 AS, etc. For the 2 pistols you mentioned, they are different in terms of ergonmics. The SR9 has a much smaller grip and will fit smaller hands better than the 92. The trigger pull on the SR9 is hit or miss and the reset is relatively longer. The trigger pull can smooth out after break in and pull and reset can be fixed by installing a Ghost connector. The Beretta has better fit and finish if that's important to you and it has a nicer trigger pull as well in SA. I have both (Ruger is the SR9c since mag will be limited to 10 anyway in NJ so I went for the little guy) and the Ruger definitely is more comfy to hold.
  11. 2 to 3 inch groups is not a lot to ask for at 25 yards. Mechanically most full size service pistols can do that with good ammo.
  12. Best bet is a custom 1911. They are hand fitted with the tightest tolerances and will shoot better than most for groups. Baers are tight if you go for the 1.5" guarantee or Wilsons make theirs in 9mm. Or you can have a smith tighten up your own 1911. Other than that, production gun would be Sig P210 in 9mm. The newer custom shop X6 is pretty good but still not as accurate as the 210.
  13. Get a Python 4" or 6". Built much better than the Anaconda. Blue seems to be more desirable than stailess or nickel. The lock up is tight as vault but they also cost a lot more to buy. Most people collect them and keep them in the safe. There are less and less gunsmith out there that knows how to work on these now so I wouldn't feed it a steady diet of hot 357 and shoot it too much. Rugers are much better for that
  14. Not all striker fired guns need to have the slide racked for a second shot. Walther P99 has second strike capability. Vice versa for hammer fired guns. only DA/SA or DAO guns have second strike capabillity. Not so with single action only guns. It all depends on each particular design. Glocks have consistent pull from shot to shot, on a G34 you have a 4.5lb pull every shot, it does not have any disadvanatage in terms of trigger pull vs when you penis the hammer for the first shot on a DA/SA gun.
  15. Thanks guys. I'll check these out.
  16. Wow they sure make it confusing! I thought the M9A1 and 92A1 were the same model just different roll marks. So the difference is the M9A1 has mag well, square trigger guard, fixed sights and sand resistant mags? What exactly is a fs model? I have the 92fs and I thought it's exactly the same as a m9 but with slanted dust cover and different sights and roll marks. I'm considering replacing my 92fs with a m9 and also get either the M9A1/92A1 or 90 two. I think I can do without the interchangeable sights and I'm not too crazy about the round trigger guard. Leaning more towards the m9A1.
  17. Verizon FIOS in Chatham NJ the machine I'm testing from is going through a switch and then though an Air Port Extreme as a wireless access point and then finally through the Verizon router so there might be some speed compromise here. I'm also logged in remotely into my machine so direct line to the internet should give slightly better upstream speed I think.

  19. A few weeks ago I saw a thread on this but couldn't find it for some reason. The subscription to AV definition on several of my PCs expired a while back. I don't feel like paying to renew them. What's the best free AV software currently? thanks!
  20. The 92A1 has interchangeable front sight? I thought that's only on the 90 two.. They actually sell the m9 commercial now and back when I bought my 92 the m9 was very hard to find. I'm thinking about getting the m9 for the straight dust cover and dot/post sight. Anyone interested in a barely used 92FS?
  21. Read this review.. http://www.handgunsmag.com/2011/11/03/review-beretta-nano/ sounds like the exact trigger pull as the Kahr. Which is to me the way to go for a small gun like this.
  22. They are different guns but comparing it to full size and compact size service pistols is not a fair comparison. I don't like the Kahr trigger on a full size or compact gun but I like them a lot on a pocket size gun. They feel like a double action revolver but smoother. The Ruger LC9 has a simular trigger but not as smooth. I have not handled a Beretta Nano yet. I am pretty sure the Nano is very different from the pistols you mentioned above as well.
  23. So if the police sees guns in plain sight when they are in your house they have probable cause for a warrant? Or does it have to be something that looks illegal? In that case any AR or AK variant they see will give them reason to turn your house inside out.
