Tomorrow may be to late for a lot of stuff, I'm down here in Lee county and theres no water in the city. Lots of places are expecting shipments tomorrow, but they may not last long. All the sports drinks were starting to run low too. Luckily I'm kinda set on some stuff, so I didn't need much. Just had to finish a kit for work. If this ends of making land fall, I'll be on call with the hospital I'm at until its done.

The way its looking right now, I'll probably be getting hit by this beast. After Harvey everyone down here has been keeping a close eye on it, and thought it would hit us anyway. Hoping for a last minute shift though, but that probably won't happen.

So, Florida has been very good to me the last few months. Got a new job, making more money, got some things straightend out. So I decided to buy myself something nice. Something I've wanted for a while. I was kicking around the idea of building a 1911, but just couldn't see me finishing it in a timely fashion. So I bought a range officer instead! Finally took it out today after having for a few weeks and burned through 100 rounds of Winchester white box. And it went fast. First time shooting a 1911, or any 45 acp pistol. But I love it! It's accurate and very smooth. Once I got used to the sites, I was punching the 9 and 10 ring constantly. It's addicting. First pic is after I finished up for the day. So I finally decided on building a 1911. Some parts are going to be difficult, others are going to be stupid easy. I filed my taxes and with my usual return, I'm gonna start buying piece by piece until I get everything I want. I'll be starting a thread and documenting my progress. If I succeed, that's great. I've had a Vizio tv for about 3 years now and no problems. Granted it's the 26 inch model, but that thing has survived some abuse. I just recently picked up a Sharp 43 inch 4k set. I thought 308 AR. Get an 80% lower and jig and do it my self. That'd be pretty fun. The idea of a krinkov crossed my mind, but I don't want to wait 6 to 9 months for the paper work to clear for the SBR stamp. Because my initial thought was to make a franken-ak. Krinkov barrel, short, with m4 style stock. I really, really want to do an MP5 build, but they're stupidly, irresponsibly expensive. And I don't have the jigs to bend an HK style receiver. After moving to Florida (which went as well as was expected) and seeing how different the pay checks are compared to Jersey, I'm looking for a project to work on in my spare time. If you were going to build or buy the following, which would you choose? AR-15 in 300Blk AK pattern in 5.45 1911 I'm in a conundrum. I want to build all three, but I'll only have time to love one project. And it's going to be a piece meal build for the most part, except maybe the 1911 which I would buy sets of parts at a time. And the AK would be built up from a pre-bent receiver to make life a little easier. So, what would you choose? With the exception of the AR, the choices are just for a fun build. So it's been about 4 days since I got to Cape Coral. Already eyed up a new stock for the AR, have my hand gun loaded in my night stand. The train ride down was ok, people behind me were loud, but what's new. As far as my fire arms go, not once did I see a dog doing security checks around the cars. Quick update: most of my collection is staying in new Jersey. Only sending two of my most prized to Florida. I'll be back up eventually to get the rest of my stuff, or if my family comes down, they'll just bring the safe with them. I'm super excited to do this. I'm still taking the train. I'll just ship my AR ahead of me in my hard case, and have an FFL ship my pistol down. Luckily I don't have an alarm on my truck. So I finally got an email back from Amtrak, and it turns out the first person that said I could, lied. And Hbec was right. They do not allow firearms on the autotrain. So now I have to find another way to get my stuff down there. I can't drive, ticket is non refundable. I may just ship my stuff ahead of me, sans powder and primers. I'll have to call them tomorrow because when I called them the first time and explained everything they said if I gave advance notice they might be able to help. The ticket is already booked. An early birthday present from family. So either way, I'm taking the train. I'll just have to ship some stuff ahead is all. Edit to add: checked the website. Apparently they have a checked firearms policy, and I sent an email to their customer service dept asking for clarification on my circumstances. So I'll see by tomorrow. Hopefully. So my move date got pushed back to the 25th, and I'm taking my truck on the auto train. Amtrak said it's fine that I bring my guns as long as I let them know a few days in advance. I plan on locking everything in my safe, unloaded, and all my ammo in a separate container (for no reason other than storage). Do you expect I'll run into any problems? Anything I should be aware of? I'm watching it happen right now with Walgreens and Rite-aid. Walgreens announced their intent to buy Rite-aid for 19 billion dollars. And this was in like May or some time around there. And there hasn't been any movement yet. I work for Walgreens and we probably won't hear anything until mid 2017 or later. And we're no where near the size of bass pro and cabelas. I'm subscribed to a lot of gun stuff on YouTube, reviews, historical stuff, torture tests etc. When I decided I wanted an AK, I started watching these guys do their reviews and tests. And saw a budget level AK that looked real good.
