  1. They don't mean 6 gallon jugs. Think like 1 liter bottle or camel back, and a water filter or water purification tablets or drops. If you're looking at filters, katadyn and life straw are pretty big names with preppers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. That is a very nice build. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. You're link is not working. As little as I know about HAM I did know about the no encryption or cyphering. Which doesn't really concern me because unless some really really bad does happen, I won't really have a need for security like that. The biggest thing I am concerned about is having a semi private freq to communicate with my family during a storm or after a storm. I just simply don't want to clutter up an already busy freq with us assessing damage around the neighborhood, or if people in the town I work in are starting to loot. 4. When setting up your HAM (talking about the beofeng), can you set up a channel that only you and the people who know the channel or freq have access? One of those questions that's just been nagging at me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I always thought that some new barrels come short chambered and you use a finish reamer to reach the final dimensions for the cartridge you're shooting. I've been looking at Shilen barrels, and found some cool offerings that interest me. Either a special order for 6.5 creedmoor or a barrel for .243 win. So I'm definitely rethinking my original magnum build idea, in favor of something like that. This is why I bring my stupid ideas to you guys, keeps me from being stupid!
  6. I don't know where to throw this, so I'm sticking it here for now, if the mods decide to move it then it was meant to be. So, I have a stupid dream and a probably an even stupider idea. I want to take a rifle receiver and rebuild it. In the sense that I would dump the barrel, the bolt and the stock and replace them. My plan (as ever as a plan could be half assed as this one), is to take a savage axis and strip it down, keeping the trigger and safety, then replace the barrel and bolt and match it to a stock. I know its a bit (read: a lot) more complicated than that, but it is my basic plan. I know it would be cheaper and easier to just buy a rifle in the caliber I'm planning on building in, but for me its about learning a new skill and knowing that I made a one of a kind piece. My plan is to convert the action into a magnum cartridge in the .30 caliber range (most likely .300 Win Mag). As for the needed parts, I know I need a barrel, a stock, and a new bolt (or bolt head). I also know I'll need a barrel vise, action wrench, head space gauge and chamber reamer. Are there any tools I'm missing? Or vital pieces of the rifle? Are there any potential issues with my choice in receiver? I'm just in the early planning stages right now. I probably won't start budgeting for this until tax return time, so I'm in noooo rush to start this until I have a working knowledge of what I'm going to do.
  7. The only thing I'd like to learn from the Israelis is Krav Maga. Just watching that video, I didn't like the way they present them selves. If I saw that IRL, they wouldn't have to shoot me...I'd die laughing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Looks like I found my project for my day off Monday! Thanks for posting that, makes a lot of sense and makes me feel better that it just isn't me with tight holes (ha!) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I don't have any other uppers to test. I could try and get a buddy of mine to bring his at over and see if I get the same for issues, but since relieving the rear pivot slot it hasn't been AS bad. Oddly the other spot I had a bear of a time with was just behind the charging handle. The flat spot outside the threads on the top near the castle nut. Charging handle couldn't pass over that one spot until I filed it down. I might email them, but since it's been over a year I don't think they'll be much help but I'll give it a shot Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. It's an LW15 lower. Bought it from you last year! The problems could just be me, but I have no other reference to know. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. The pivot pins weren't fully engaged. It was 50/50 operator error and lower. The problem was the rear pivot pin area was a tad to tight for the upper to fully sit back towards the buffer. The area in the picture is what I'm talking about. The difference between lower and upper lugs was .27, so I filed either side evenly until I reached a difference of .1 and everything slides into place but needs a bit of push to seat it to be able to push the pins place. 12. Yup. Tiny hammer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Missed my punch, and caught the side with a tiny hammer. Don't ask how, cause I don't even know how I managed it. Just my luck I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. After playing around with it, and making sure everything locked I tested the charging handle and there was no clearence for it to be pulled back. Disassembled, and ended up shaving the top of the lower down enough to get the charging handle to move freely. If I ever do another build, I'm not going with poly lower again. I've had nothing but problems with assembly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Scratch that. After tugging on it with just brute force, it seated into where it's supposed to be. But it's stupid tight. Which tells me that there could be a dimension issue with the take down pins and gaps for the upper. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. As far as any wobble in the gun goes, there is none. Like zero. But that's because the gap for the recoil lug in the fcg pocket is super tight. That's the gap of the receiver. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. So I got an Aero Precision upper from CDNN sports, and got a decent deal on it. I come home from work today, and everything's on the table waiting for me. Get the upper put together, mate it to my lower...and theres a noticeable gap between the buffer, and end of the upper. I won't say its a huge gap, but you can see light. Will this affect operation? If so, would there be a way to fix it? I'll get my pics up tomorrow, my phone is charging.
  18. The main reason I want it is because if i choose to change handguards, I'm not out a comp or brake by having to cut it off. I can just slide everything over it and be done with my changes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. The unit is on prime. A little hokey with the drama side, but the action is really good, and the later seasons step up the plot a bit. I've always been a fan of stargate, but I'd only suggest it if you like sci-fi. Band of brothers is a must. And you already mentioned generation kill, which is one of my top favorite shows. 20. Looking at getting a Nordic comp for my ar build. What do you think of this http://nordiccomp.com/retail/shop/ar-15-10/nordic-components-tactical-compensator-223-black-oxide/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Old topic I know, but I just ordered a bunch of upper parts for my AR build and spent less than 200 after shipping. They have a pretty good sale going right now, so if you're working on a budget build and need a source for inexpensive parts, this may be the place you're looking for.
  22. That's...really disappointing to hear. What kind if problems have you had? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. You don't want to lube the inside of the case mouth. If you do, when you go to charge the case you might contaminate the powder and have ignition issues. When I resize brass, I use lee case lube an use a tiny drop rolled between my fingers. Its enough to get two cases lubed, without over lubing and causing rolls in the neck or shoulder of the case. I've sized 7.7x58mm brass and haven't had a stuck case, or needed to be to forceful to size this way. Is it the absolute final correct way? God no, but it works for me.
  24. I'm looking at getting a Chiappa .22 lr upper once I finish my .223/5.56 build. You guys have any input on their quality? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Yeah, not a fan of Panera before or after this. 95% of their food is frozen, their bread is shit (I used to bake their bread. They receive it frozen and just heat it up), and their pastries are the same. Not a big deal to keep boycotting them for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
