A big scope makes the AR look and feel all top heavy. A scope with too much power will not help you in a close up emergency. Get a small light scope like the Weaver V3 1-3 power and an amazing wide field of view. Will solve any problem you encounter from across the room to several hundred yards out.

Get the 38 +p model and load it with the Corbon- Glaser Safety Slug for serious problems. Use mild 38s for practice. Most of them have a good trigger, better than the average S&W.

your AR is not a bench rest gun. Buy a chrome lined barrel and ignore all this voodoo. My Colt HBar barrel shot some of its best groups when over 200 rounds dirty. Took about 17,000 rounds to wear it out. Chrome lined barrels are much easier to clean.

Go back and look at the tapes of that North Hollywood bank robbery. All patrol cars should have a 5.56 carbine with variable scope in the 1-3x or 1-4x range. Could be a AR15 or mini-14. This could handle problems from across the room to several hundred yards out.
