  1. So it sounds to me like you had a carb heavy diet (despite or because you tried to eat "low fat" as the stupid guidelines recommend) and you are trying to switch to lower carb diet, which makes a lot more sense. Good for you.
  2. Some drugs do last longer while losing potency but some actually get to be harmful. If you have an interest in this subject you should read One second after, it is a decent long term survival in after a massive collapse yarn, and addresses some issues other such books don't and it makes you think a bit harder about how far you are willing to go.
  3. Out of curiosity, what was you diet before and what is it now?
  4. That was actually my point. We need to change the perception that firearms might need to be confiscated during an emergency. A number of states have passed laws banning exactly such a practice post-Katrina, but such a law would be harder to pass here (or obeyed depending on who is in charge) without a shift in the NJ cultural perspective on guns. I think worrying about how to evade such situation misses the point of the best solution which is to make such a situation unlikely or impossible. It is like asking what is the best position to hold yourself in in case of an car crash, instead of asking how to drive in a way that avoids car crashes. In all honesty, I think there is already progress on that front. When I bought my first gun over 10 years ago I used to see a lot more of the "Only criminals need guns" and "People who have guns are compensating for a small penis" type of attitude. There has been a definite shift since then. I'm not saying we are anywhere close to the "Well, who doesn't?" attitude of Kentucky but I see a lot more new shooters then I used to show up at the range, the clubs I belong to have higher membership, when I mention I own guns now I'm more likely to get "Oh, really?" or "Can you teach me to shoot?" and most importantly a LOT more women are interested in shooting and self defense. These are all good things and we are seeing a shift, but a lot more needs to be done before we get where we want to be. This takes effort, takes talking to people, takes listening to what they are afraid of and explaining to them how their fear might be invalid. It also takes a bit of finesse so you don't come across as a paranoid survivalist (even if you are and even if you have a good reason). It takes work.
  5. Plus I don't think any prosecutor has ever asked that question. All bullets are designed to kill so a decent lawyer would make him look like a fool. There seems to be a shortage of bullets made from cheese one could have used.
  6. Its just thicker molded kydex instead of stamped kydex.
  7. Then I'm guessing its real if it has the embroidery. They've introduced that as a anti-piracy measure. Also the new inner belts are thicker.
  8. Dunno, the inner belt looks thicker then it should. Also the current ones have embossed markings on the inside: My older one does not, so who knows, maybe you got an older one?
  9. And at $199 there are a TON of working NEW .22's and even more used ones.
  10. If you (the generic "you", not one person in particular) are truly concerned about this scenario, then go out and help change the culture. Take as many people as you can shooting, have friendly talks to law enforcement officers that might be anti-gun and vote smart for people willing to change the laws. Of course all those things are actually a lot harder then furiously typing on the internet from your bunker.
  11. Keep in mind that Walmart pays different prices for the firearms then your local dealer does, and can afford to make a lower margin and still be in business. If Walmart puts all the local dealers out of business and then decides that they don't really want to sell guns and ammo after all, you are left with nowhere to go. One marketing VP and a bunch of bobble heads can make that decision over coffee one afternoon and affect hundreds of stores. One terrible business decision or a huge lawsuit and a giant chain can fold (Kmart anyone?), but it takes a lot more to close a lot of small shops.
  12. To add dose of realism here, most (if not all) police officers I've met have been professional and not bent on harassing people unless they honestly think there was a crime committed. I know that there are some who can get drunk on power and all that, but I shoot matches with countless law enforcement folks, have a couple in the family, and they are great guys. Sure, abuses happen, but I think in general if you treat them like humans they tend to treat you the same. I think the guys that were puzzled by my wife's bumper stickers are the exception, not the rule. Or at least I hope so.
  13. He carries a parachute around? Really? I've always thought he was rather idiotic, but now .. now this is a whole new level of bonkers.
  14. Slav makes a good point. Call Blade-tech and ask them. I have modified holsters with heat in the past with fine luck, but you do take the chance of destroying it.
  15. Bladetech's holsters are generally viewed as some of the best (and I can tell you lots of competition shooters use them, I think I have 4). Conduct the following test: Remove the adjustment screws, holster the gun. Does it still bind? If no, then add the screws back (with some blue loctite) and tighten until the gun binds again. Back off a bit. That should do it. If that fails, you may have to take some heat to it, though I never had to do this with a Bladetech. Take a heat gun on the lowest setting, soften up the holster JUST a bit (don't melt it), holster the gun, and let the kydex cool around it, it will slightly reshape. However before you do any of that, make sure you holster and unholster the gun perfectly straight, part of how the retainment system works is adding extra pressure and friction when the gun is moved at an angle.
  16. I think Nappen does a free consult and runs about $1000 to clear records, but it may depend on what sort of thing needs to be cleared.
  17. Last I checked mags for them were hard to find.
  18. Really, I blame it on ponies. They look all cute an cuddly and everyone loves them but the use their mind control beams to twist people to do their evil work. After all, they server Bad Horse, the thoroughbred of sin.
  19. I would have done exactly that. My wife just casually laughed at them and treated them with the implication that they were being childish, while remaining polite. She is also all of 5ft tall, so she must have gotten inside their OODA loop.

You have no idea how funny that is, addressed to Slav. The man shoots a pink with white stripes Glock, I kid you not.
  21. So based on this theory we could lower crime by just allowing the purchase of air conditioners with food coupons or government subsidies?
  22. BTW, if I remember correctly there was something the NJ supreme court got right about this. If someone has probable cause they can search your car. If they don't they can ask. Saying "no, you may not" does not however constitute probable cause, the officer can't just say "If you don't want me to search your car, you must have something to hide so now I have probable cause". For the record my wife was pulled over once for her pro-gun bumper stickers and the officers where quite aggressive about asking her and her friend who has guns, are there guns in the car, etc but never searched her car. They didn't pull her over for a traffic violation or anything and they didn't issue her a ticket for anything, they pulled her over because they saw her stickers at a light. They did however state that "All those gun bumper stickers make us nervous and uncomfortable", my wife laughed.

I've added the following to my bits guide: Charging Handle: The standard charging handle is fine but it was designed to be used with a pinch on both sides. The trouble with that is that it requires dismounting the rifle and it doesn't work so hot with optics mounted. There are a number of extended latches available which make one handed manipulation easier and faster, but they have 2 problems. The first problem is that latches are held in place by a roll pin and the entire force applied to the handle passes through that pin. With extended latches there is quite a bit of force applied and they have been known to break or "split" the rear of the charging handle. The second problem is that the milspec handle is not that robust so energetic manipulation can bend the entire handle resulting in a non working gun. There are two solutions to this problem. The first are steel charging handles which are a lot tougher and resist bending, the DPMS has a decent reputation. The second is the BCM Gunfighter charging handle which is built out a better grade of aluminum, with some extra re-enforced areas and a completely redesigned latch that places the torque forces on the end of the handle not on the roll pin. The BCM handle also comes with 3 different lengths for the latch and it is my choice for my rifles. I use the medium latch version and it is awesome.
