  1. I second the GSG 1911-22 or its sister, the SIG 1911-22. I got my SIG for $349.
  2. Why is the .40 S&W not so popular?

    G19 or M&P9?

Where is the most economic place to pickup an M&P? I would be interested in one with a thumb safety.
  4. Very nice family with some healthy sibling rivalry.
  5. I may have to get one of these because of their performance. I just wish they were more attractive.
  6. Man, A Socom 16 is one big pistol!

    SIG 1911-22

I am starting to love this gun! I like the weight and the wooden grips. It is a lot of fun, and the trigger is awesome on it. It doesn't like the really cheap 22s I got from Walmart, but I had no problems with some of the better quality 22s. The aftermarket GSG magazines I got seem to work just fine in it. I wonder if I can upgrade the sights and put fiber optic ones on it. Does anybody else have experience with one of these or its sister, the GSG 1911-22?
  8. Thank you for the advice. Does the 34 have the same grip size and distance from the backstrap to the trigger as the 19? Do you fel that the 17 is too close in size to the versatile 19, and that the 34 would be much better? I have a Beretta 92FS and I love the gun, but it just doesn't seem to fit me well, so I want to sell it. But, it is an attractive gun. The only gun I like in appearance more than the Beretta is probably the brushed stainless CZ75B.
  9. What additional Glock would you get to compliment the following two? Glock 23 GEN 3 w/ 9mm conversion barrel Glock 19 GEN 4 Predominantly, the 19 will be used at the range and the 23 is for home defense. The following are in the running: A duplicate of my favorite gun, the Glock 19, GEN 4 (maybe setup with small dot sights) A Glock 23 Gen 4 that hopefully could use the conversion used by the GEN 3 Model 23 A Glock 17 Gen 4 A Glock 22 Gen 4 Possibly, one in .45 ACP, but then that would require another caliber be stocked and the grip would be larger and I don't know about the .45 ACP and a light polymer frame. Please provide thoughts on the following questions as well: What are your sight recommendations in any of the following categories: large dot, small dot, night sights, fiber optic, night/fiber optic, orginal Glock sights, etc.? Which sights work for you and why? Can Glock sight tools be picked up for much under $100 plus, and if so, where is the best place to purchase them? Are there still GEN 4 growing pains and what is your advice/experience on this concern? What are your thoughts on the rougher textured GEN 4 finish? If you really prefer a GEN 3, please advise. For anyone that has experience with the 17 and 19, how much does the additional sight radius help? What parts would you update on converting from 23 to 19 besides the barrel and magazines? Do you recommend it? If you use an aftermarket trigger, which one do you use/like and why? Are you comfortable in using a stock 9mm for home defense. Or, would you prefer at least the .40 S&W? I am not interested in a 10mm or .357 SIG. My current thoughts, now, would be to get a Glock 23 GEN 4, and then maybe trade off the 23 GEN 3, and replace it with a Glock 19 GEN 4 or Glock 17 Gen 4 or another 19 GEN 4. Lastly, do you have any recommendations on a safe holster suitable for concealed carry?

    G19 or M&P9?

Consider getting a Glock 23 GEN 4. Check to see if you can get a convertible barrel for about $100, 2 or 3 9mm Korean magazines for about $10, each, and if you need to, update the ejector and spring and you have two guns. One for the range and one for self-defense.
  11. If you defend yourself, are you going to be charged with a crime? What right does anybody have in taking your HD weapon unless you are charged with a crime? And, what are the odds of recovery? At the least, if your possession is taken and it is a handgun, you should immediately be offered a pistol permit to replace it.
  12. The DA/SA twin ruger revolvers. (Do these count as one?) And, their big brother, Mr. Mossberg, is always near if needed. In truth, I am considering a Glock 23 w/ a couple of loaded 15-round Glock 22 mags.
  13. It depends on what it will be used for. My preference is an FNH FNX-40, but I also like the Glock 23, and the CZ-SP01 or P01 or something like that.
  14. There is no set rule. It depends on what you want. It depends on its current availability and your time-frame for acquiring it. It depends on its condition. It depends on its purpose. Is it for the range, home defense, etc? In many ways it is like buying a car in that you take a huge hit when you buy it. Not only has it lost value when it goes out the door, but then there was tax and NICs fees you were charged as well. If I wanted a "safe queen" and/or if it was for a collection, then I might opt for a new one in a box. If I wanted something to shoot, then I might not care either way as long as it worked. Anyway, if you buy used, you might get some extra values such as an additional magazine, night sights, trigger upgrade, etc. Did an owner do any modifications to it? You might get a lemon that has been problematic since it was purchased. The safest thing is to buy something from someone you know or trust, and to find out the reason that it was being sold. Was it just never used very much? Did someone want something else and wanted to apply the money from this sale toward it? Was someone not interested in firing .40 ammo, anymore, and he didn't want to stock it and had no need for a gun. If I wanted something and had a good indication as to what it was and why it was being sold, and if it was in the condition that I wanted... then I would rather buy used and reap the savings. And, I might get something that is already broken in. That being said, some guns come with a lifetime warranty (whatever that means), and I don't know if it is transferrable, but if it is not, then the warranty might be nice with a new one. It would also depend on what I wanted and its availability, either new or used. Maybe it can only be found at a dealer. Maybe only a used one is available. Sometimes dealers cannot get things because they are out of stock at their distributors, or sometimes private sellers don't have something yet, or they would not be willing to part with something. It seems that most are well-taken care of by their owners because they are expensive investments. Ask questions when buying used, but go for it. In the long run, I would rather get three used guns and ammo instead of two that I paid full-price for, as long as they work and are like new! By the way, please let me know about the Beretta Cougar in .45 if you decide not to take it. These are nice for home defense. Just keep in mind that getting a used gun at half price that is $450, new, isn't the same as getting a $1000 one that is 1/2 price. The difference between a new and used one might not be that different. And, we need dealers, so we should try to support the ones that are fair and helpful.
  15. There are a lot of nice people that go there, but a lot are arrogant as well.
  16. The reason that I won't join this range is because of the visitor policy. I for one choose to bring a visiter at least every other time I go, and the policies here are not conducive. I want to expand the enjoyment of firearms, the 2nd Amendment and going to a Range, and the policies and price for membership are too costly.
  17. Can anybody tell me what the distance and time is from the NJ/PA border? I am about 45 minutes from the Phillipsburg-Easton Border and I am trying to guage how much extra time it would take me to get there. The subs sound good, by the way. The membership doesn't appear to be prorated. However, if you plan on getting a guest pass, It seems like it would be the same price if you got a single pass now and then the double in January.
  18. Can anyone recommend a pistol range bag that is configured nicely and will hold 3-4 handguns seperately compartmentalized and with other range accessories.
  19. That is why I like the "AK" of the pistol world!
  20. Not to change the subject, but how well does a 9mm conversion barrel work in a Glock 23?
  21. I was quite intrigued on how the military adopted the M9. After all of the testing, the Beretta was chosen, and it beat out its rival Sig. Properly lubricated and serviced with new springs periodically, the Beretta holds up and is quite accurate. Besides, arguably, what pistol has a more attractive shape and finish? There has been some talk of just how political it really was in it being chosen by the armed forces. The US was pressured to adopt a 9mm handgun to comply with NATO. The US wanted a missile base in Italy, so the contract was offered to Beretta for the M9 to secure that. The US was concerned with the cost associated with procurring each firearm. But that is not the whole story. As of late, I have been told by someone intimate with the testing that in durability tests, the Beretta actually held up better than the other considerations, including the Sig, after thousands of rounds were fired through it! Then there is that issue about the slides breaking. The 92, with its high accuracy was built to tight tolerances and it needs to be lubricated and properly maintained. The issue of the slides coming off was a direct result of ammunution loaded to extremely high pressure. And, the interesting thing is that it appears that American ammunition was purposefully loaded to that higher pressure! And there are even boxes of this high pressure ammunition to prove this. I wonder if Colt and other American gun and ammuntion manufacturers would have liked to have gotten that military contract themselves? For example, would Colt, who had secured the contract for the 1911 and who was working on a scaled down 1911 in 9mm for the new contract, would Colt have had any interest in the 92s "durability" as it produced ammuntion for the military? What do you think?
  22. A relative is going to apply for a Firearms ID card and a permit. Can anyone share experiences with this in North Bergen?
  23. Ramsey's Outdoors in Roxbury has a compact Beretta 92.
  24. I felt the trigger on a PX4 full-size today and it was very nice. Even the double action trigger was very nice. Felt to me like a tuned revolver.
