  1. I'm registered for it. I took the DMR course once last year and it was a blast.
  2. I was one of the first to register as Am but something had come up and I had to drop out. Really disappointed and i'm hoping to make the next one!
  3. +1 for anyone that wants to get into precision shooting. I've never attended this particular seminar but Freddy is one of the best instructors I've ever had (and iggyort isn't a bad shot either).
  4. When you're shooting prone off of the grass in front of the benches you'll need a 9-14 depending on how much of a belly you have. I don't actually ever recall shooting prone off the concrete or off the benches but it will likely be about the same.
  5. Sounds like a plan to me! Look into Freddy's courses over in Lewistown PA with Black Hat Training Corps. I've taken a few of his classes so far and haven't been disappointed. In fact i'll be going to a bunch more training with him this year. Hope to see you there!
  6. Absolutely. And I love how compact they are. They balance extremely well and i'd much rather lug one of those around than my AI. I'm not a huge fan of the single-stage trigger (I prefer a good two-stage) and the magazines are apparently finicky and have a slightly limited capacity. Otherwise its a phenomenal platform.
  7. Both are excellent platforms depending on what you need. I've shot a DTA before but wasn't a huge fan.
  8. I'll be running my AI AX in .308 with a Vortex Razor HD II 4.5-27x because I'm a glutton for punishment and have also been too lazy to buy a 6.5 barrel for it and the components necessary to load my own.
  9. Sounds good to me. Looks like this match swapped over to the 7th instead of the 8th as per the announcement on SH Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Registered. I may be able to make the 8th anyway now that I look at my calendar. I pity to Pro i'm stuck with as its my first match.
  11. My recommendation would be to make sure whatever mat you buy has straps sewn in to allow you to load your bipod properly. The Midway mat is the one I use. It has the straps and is very comfortable.
  12. They may be a distributor exclusive. They come with a pretty good stock from the factory (H&S if i recall) so you may be able to flip that to offset the slightly added cost: https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/411540287 Have you thought about actions besides the 700? Personally I prefer Tikka for an out-of-the-box factory action.
  13. The SPS Varmint is a good choice. I would look at the 5R model too.
  14. Interesting. Mind keeping me informed? I can't find a mailing list or anything to sign up for and if its being pushed to a Saturday i'd be more likely to be able to make it.
  15. Are you looking to put a custom barrel on the 700 right off the bat or are you planning on shooting stock at first and upgrading after a while?
  16. I'd be interested in this myself. Closest place that I know hosts matches is New Holland RPC. I think they have a Pro/Am match coming up soon:http://www.scout.com/military/snipers-hide/forums/5526-local-matches/14527739-pa-nhrpc-pro-am-may-7-2016
  17. It used to be on the third Thursday but I want to say they moved it to every Saturday. This is the best info I have: http://www.heritageguild.com/Events/IDPA.aspx
  18. FYI, Heritage Guild in Easton has moved their IDPA match to Saturday from 5-7PM.
  19. Yeah, it's a grating commute now. Luckily most of it is on a train where I can sleep or read. 5 minute drive to the train station, 50 minutes on NJT (when it works), and about 20 minutes crosstown depending on the trains and how slow I walk. It's annoying but I get paid well, have great benefits, and love my job. Moving to another company would be an option in 5 years or so because I was just promoted and want to gain some more experience in this role. In theory, my company will be moving their major data center operations to Middletown in a year or two. Once that happens I'll transition down there, move closer to the office and turn my 1.5 hour commute into a 3 minute one. For now. I was just looking for a way to kee my current gig but gain a cheaper cost of living and actually have rights. Looks like that's not really in the cards practically. Thanks for the advice guys! 20. Yea, driving into the city isn't even remotely appealing. I would have to use public transit of some kind. I'm looking at some kind of bus service out of Stroudsburg that appears to take 1 hour 20 minutes (likely sans traffic) which isn't awful. It would add about 20 more minutes to my commute. I'm currently living in Woodbridge. I take NJTransit and it takes me about 1.5 hours door-to-door.
  21. Thread topic is pretty much the question. Is there anyone currently doing it? If so, how and from where? I'm single and don't have a family or dog and already commute 1.5 hours from where I am. I'd love to move out of this state.
  22. I'll take the cold over the torrential downpour we had during the DMR course. Mike, Chris, and Chet looked like drowned rats after setting up the final exercise. Besides, my AI lives for the cold....
  23. Agreed. Depending on the barrel length and bullet you can easily get hits on steel out to 800 yards. Freddy/BHTC ran a DMR course a few weeks ago out at Lewistown and I was easily able to hit steel out to 8-900 yards with my 18" Noveske SPR running 77gr SMKs. Many of the people at the course were running 16" rifles and seemed to be getting hits out to there as well.
  24. Right?! Its so awesome to be able to spin off the barrel for storage or to swap calibers! Best feature of my AX. What reticle did you go with for your Vortex?
  25. Another big +1 for Freddy and the crew at BHTC. Went to their Initial/intermediate Precision Rifle course in October of last year. Great instruction. So good that I'm going back again this coming April to take the same course (with a different rifle). I know they just started offering those work-up clinics that don't have a shooting component but if the instruction is anything like the classroom portions of the I/I course, its really great info.
